Beautiful hotel, exceptional views. Tiny bit stuffy.
What a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting. Very stylish, views to die for, wonderfully bright rooms. The breakfast was a true highlight and perfectly executed. The atmosphere is a little uptight and they could do with relaxing ever so slightly but that is a good problem to have for a hotel. The pool area has an exceptional panoramic view of Positano and the surrounding area, though note it isn’t heated and was too cold to use in October- if it was heated that would be a good investment. The hotel is actually at the top of the view of Positano and that means it really is many many steps back up. The shuttle timings didn’t work for us and it can only come halfway down in any case so do be prepared for a great calf workout.
So close to a perfect hotel
Overall a very enjoyable 2-night stay, but I am not certain I would recommend this hotel. The positives are the food is absolutely incredible and the hotel has some of the most stunning views in Positano. The decor is modern and unique and everything is very tastefully done. The staff is very friendly and helpful, even accommodating a last second transfer request when we arrived much sooner than expected. Despite all that I loved about this hotel, there are some downsides that keep me from raving and recommending it. When we tried to go to the pool in the morning and evening, in both instances, we were told it was closed. It is pretty disappointing when the beautiful rooftop pool is one of the main selling points of the hotel and we were unable to use it during our stay. Next, some of the staff in the bar/restaurant area did not wear masks. I understand it can be uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time, but especially in close-contact customer-facing positions, it is a bit concerning. Lastly, you do feel like you are nickeled-and-dimed at times which does take away from the luxury atmosphere they build so well otherwise. Like when going to the bar and asking for tap water with lemon only to be charged $15 per glass of tap water is a bit of a shock. A couple of other minor things I’d say to be aware of when booking: the balconies have no privacy as you will be only about 6 feet from the people on the balcony next door with no privacy partitions, and you do hear a lot of hallway noise in your room. Hotel Villa Franca was terrific, and the positives were so great that even with the cons we had a very lovely stay. There is so much to love about this hotel, but unfortunately some of the detractors make me hesitant to recommend it to others given how expensive it is. I do believe these are very easy fixes to make HVF a truly top-of-the-line luxury hotel, and I hope they do, as I would excitedly return on my next trip to Positano.
Luxury hotel away from the Positano crowds
Stunning views overlooking Positano. Highly recommend room 446. The staff from front desk to housekeeping to waiters were all very friendly. Although the interior decor is not my favorite, the rooftop pool is outstanding and offers panoramic views of Positano. The breakfast was something to look for with rich cuisines and endless options. Thank you!
4 star hotel
POSITIVES: we were greeted with lemonade and a really tasty pound cake upon arrival. Our driver from Naples to the hotel was fantastic. The view from the lobby and pool were incredible. The food was expensive but very tasty. LOCATION: Be prepared for a ton of steps. To get from town to the hotel, 578 steps. To get from town to the beach, approx 370 steps. If you request a taxi, they will charge 30€ one way and enlist a driver. SERVICE: at every other hotel we stayed at this trip, we had someone from the hotel assist us with transportation of our luggage. Villa Franca did not assist with luggage, instead they made us hire a third party who charged us 10€ per luggage piece. We felt very rushed and unwelcome at checkout. VIEWS: Our view had 0 view. We requested a room with a view and received a tiny sliver of ocean. It was very underwhelming. POOL: the pool was always packed and we were never able to secure a normal chair. The views from the pool were amazing. RECOMMENDATION: I would recommend spending the extra money to stay at Le Sirenuse.
Amazing hotel - will come back!
