Our third time staying at The Continental and it just seems to get better and better. The staff go 'above and beyond' to make you feel very welcome and the service is exceptional!!!. Wonderful location, great food, lovely rooms and very clean. Thank you Giovanni and all your wonderful team. We will definitely be back!
Could not ask for better
We stayed there on our great rail journey , great hotel clean good staff great service as was food, short walk to everything boat rides round the bay if don’t want to eat in hotel lots of restaurants around
We stayed in hotel Continental for the second time and our high expectations were fulfilled. The hotel has not only perfect location and nice facilities but provides excellent service. Especially a big applause to the hotel staff who was extremely friendly and attentive. We will certainly be back.
Miscommunication left us feeling a bit unwelcome
Review I want to start this review by saying that those working in hospitality need to realise the enormous responsibility they have: they can make their guests’ memories unforgettable or stain them forever. That’s why it’s true when they say: working in hospitality has to be a passion/vocation not just a ‘job’! We booked our first long weekend in a year (due to COVID) so we were very excited also because we were going to celebrate our anniversary and we chose this hotel, we booked the deluxe room with front lake view and we mentioned it was our anniversary. Few days before they called us to inform our room wasn’t available so they decided to upgrade us to a suite, we were very happy and looking forward to it. I also booked a massage and the lady recommended to have it at 6pm so I booked it then. When we arrived in the room we realised it wasn’t the suite so I called reception thinking of a mistake, the lady told me our original room had became available again so they gave us that, I said that no one had informed us of that, she admitted someone should have and she went on saying this was one of the best rooms they have (not the point). Now, I want to explain that we would have been happy with our room if they didn’t tell us anything about the suite thus creating an expectation and then take it away. This ruined the whole atmosphere, they didn’t have to give us the suite of course, but they told us they would and then they didn’t without even telling us. It would have been much better not to tell us about the upgrade and then upgrade us at check in time or not upgrade us at all but if you promise the suite then give the suite or you end up diminishing the beauty of our original room which was perfectly fine! So we were obviously disappointed. Then, at check in time, the same lady who suggested me to have the massage at 6 pm told me she made a mistake and she booked a sauna instead of the massage so We had to move my massage at 6:30 because the slot she suggested wasn’t available anymore, she said: tomorrow before the massage come here at reception and I will personally accompany you downstairs in the spa. So I did, but at 6:30 she was nowhere to be seen. A colleague comes out of reception and tells me to go downstairs for the massage, I said what his colleague had told me so the reason why I was waiting there, he said: the waiting area is actually downstairs and I said again that his colleague specifically told me to wait for her there, he said ‘ok it doesn’t matter, can you go downstairs please?’ All the time he was speaking to me in a condescending tone so he made me feel like he didn’t believe me and that I did something wrong when I was following his colleague’s instructions and she didn’t even bother to come or to inform him, this ruined my mood and the first part of my massage until I decided I wasn’t going to let it so after a while I managed to relax and enjoy it (it was quite nice). Then, the rooms still have the the old fashion key with big and heavy keychains so we were leaving it at reception when we were going out as too bulky, we did it 3 times and the people at reception didn’t say anything to us and accepted it, the fourth time the same guy of the massage appointment ‘incident’ told us to keep the key with us instead, we didn’t know what to say. Why no one informed us before? Why some of his colleagues accepted the keys and he didn’t? Too many miscommunications that end up confounding the guests and make them feel uncomfortable. Also the heated pool is supposed to be for over 15 only but there were 4 kids in there shouting and screaming, no one is there to make sure people obey the rules, unfortunately they rely on guests’ manners. I have to mention though that thankfully all the waiters/ waitresses, bar staff and cleaners are extremely nice though. Now I ask you to please walk in our shoes, have a little empathy and tell me: how would you feel as guest? What memories would you have of your wedding anniversary in the years to come because of this? I wish I was writing a completely different review, the one I was expecting before coming here (I hate writing bad reviews because it means I didn’t enjoy my holidays as much as I wanted) that’s why I cannot stress enough how much power people working in hospitality have over their guests’ precious memories, make people write amazing reviews and have amazing memories!!!!
Relaxing Haven in Beautiful Sirmione
Hotel Continental is one of our favourite hotels, in the perfect location for a relaxing holiday on Lake Garda yet only 5 minutes walk from the historic centre with it's many restaurants and shops. The ferry terminal and castle are also only 10 minutes away. This immaculately presented hotel is situated in a quiet area at the end of the Sirmio peninsula with gorgeous lake views from the restaurant, swimming terraces and many of the rooms. The standard of service in the restaurant is exceptional and watching the sun go down over the lake whilst enjoying such quality food and wine was bliss. The breakfast choice is also fantastic and can be taken from the lake view dining terrace. The spa is currently closed because of Covid-19 and face masks must be worn whilst moving around the hotel but guests can still enjoy the thermal pool and the hotel is kept reassuringly spotless. This is a very well run hotel in all respects - many thanks to Giovanni and his team for yet another wonderful holiday.
