New beginning 2021
Had been there with family for newyear eve celebrations Due to covid restrictions there were no functions in house or out house(burning of huge pappanji, in Portuguese mening grandfather., effigy of an old man wearing a suit and with a long beard) They provided a warm welcome gave us a 7course sumptuous dinner Just had some burning firecrackers otherwise cold welcome to 2021 Next day morning also had a nice breakfast Thanks to surya and team Had a walk to fortcochin beach just nearby
Place was beautiful. Very eclectic art and well designed rooms. Staff were courteous. Biji & Surya & Tom ensured our stay was comfortable and our needs were met. The 6 course dinner put together for the 31st night by the Chef was very out of the box and interesting. Overall an interesting stay. One night at the Malabar House is definitely worth a try.
A wonderful stay!
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Malabar House. We were the only guests there and Surya and her team took real good care of us. All Corona protocols were in place. The property is beautiful and the rooms are lovely. A lot of individuality. The property is located right in the centre of Fort Kochi, a stone throw away from the Chinese nets. Highly recommended!
Glorious boutique hotel in Fort Kochi
Our stay at Malabar House was fantastic - we had decided to come to Kerala from Delhi to escape the pollution as soon as the state borders would allow domestic travel, and this was our first port of call. We were the only guests staying at the time, and they were operating a reduced number of staff, but that didn't mean there was any drop in service - and we were looked after like royalty! The hotel itself is situated on the southern edge of the Fort Cochi parade ground - about a 10 minute walk to the chinese fishing nets on the coast. This means it is in a very quiet location, but also very near everything you want to see in Fort Kochi - the nets, Princess Street, and the heritage trail - as well as being a short walk from the ferry links to Vypin and Ernakulam. All the rooms surround a central courtyard, in which there is a small (10m ish, 1.5m deep) pool, and a small dias where in times before pandemics musicians could play. We were in a wonderfully large roof garden suite, which featured a vast bed, 2 balconies, and an en suite with seemingly limitless hot water. The highlight of the stay was definitely the food - we had a menu created to our tastes, and it was absolutely phenomenal - the chef clearly knows what he is doing. The CEO, Saji, and General Manager, Biji, both looked after us very well and essentially let us do what we wanted, while steering us in a sensible and covid-proof direction. Their goal had been to give us a touch of the usual magic of the place during a pandemic, and they certainly succeeded - for example on the night Diwali the courtyard was lit up with oil lamps for just the pair of us. Also very helpfully, the hotel loaned us two bicycles which were ideal for getting around Fort Kochi. Government rules are in place which prevent certain activities (e.g. the bar is closed, cleaning staff must minimise any time in your room) - but even in a time of covid Saji, Biji, Sinu, and the rest of the Malabar House team found ways of working to make us feel safe and well looked after! Thank you all!
This is a pleasant hotel only a short walk from the Chinese fishing nets and the centre of the town. Our room was comfortable and well appointed. The restaurant is quite good but there are better places to eat close at hand. The breakfast could be more extensive.
