In January, I made my second trip to Khem Villas. To my surprise the staff remembered me and I was given an upgrade on my arrival. The property is huge and there is so much more to do than just sit in the room. The food was fresh and organic and the staff was also courteous enough to accommodate our food preferences. If you're in Ranthambhore I would highly recommend staying at Khem Villas. My overall experience at Khem Villas is unmatched.
Khem Villas excellent place to stay in ranthambore
We were 4 of us travelling to Ranthambore for tiger safari, a friend from udaipur who stayed in khem villas in her last year trip suggested about this place. Initially the property was sold out when we checked online. Only on the day 26th march we got a call from khem owners that a tent and a cottage is possible coz of a cancelletion. We were verh happy and reached there from jaipur in a cab. Once we reached the property which is around 1 km from the highway road and around 3 kms from the main gate entrance of tiger safari ganesh gate. After checking before we went to the cottages a small walk around the property where there was a bar near water body with lillies, small pathway which takes you to the scenic huge 33 acres property. We were informed by owners mr goverdhan singh and usha singh that they arrange a one and half hour nature walk every day morning and evening. We checked into rooms was a great feeling coz cottages had a village hut feel with modern bath fittings and comfortable bed. Me and my friends were very happy about the whole setting of the cottages like the main door, a open air jacuzi, verandah(angan) with a cot. we freshened up and went to the safari we were lucky to spot a tiger in zone 3. After coming back had a great dinner. Informed the manager to arrange morning nature walk. The guide was veey knowledgeable we spotted some birds, there were crocodiles in one of their water bodies and many different flowers and trees. Once back from the walk which took around 90 mins we came back and had healthy breakfast. we were informed most of the fruits and vegetables are farmed within the property. We went for another safari. Overall it was a great 10 on 10 experience at Khem Villas and the trip to ranthambore was special coz of spotting tiger and the stay in cottages which were like a village hut house. Must stay in Khem Villas when you visit ranthambore
Location is the key word here!
Stayed here for three nights. The location is fantastic - on the fence of the Ranthambore National Park - really tranquil, close to nature and serene. I stayed in a cottage which was well located and of good size. However, a few things could be improved here - they do not provide a kettle in the room. The Manager was very helpful and sent a flask of hot water whenever requested. They also provided a kettle - but this was not very clean and a little flimsy making a electric sparking kind of a sound - so was not used Greater pest control needs to be done. The resort is close to nature and one needs to make allowances for insects etc. But two lizards and two cockroaches is a little too much. Housekeeping team of the hotel is very good and the cottage was sparking clean with crisp bed linen and a very good mattress. Hot water could have been hotter. The resort is all inclusive with a set menu. This is not a bad thing - but the food was spicy on one occasion. One issue was - I had a guest for lunch on both days but then I did not eat dinner any of the two days. But was still charges a supplement for the guest at lunch. Why? Should this have not been cancelled off with the absence from Dinner? The alcoholic drinks are also slightly on the higher side. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone who wants to just disconnect and stay middle of nature. The lack of mobile signals is quite a plus point as this helps one to slow down and even disconnect from the chaos of everyday city life. The resorts has tents, cottages, villas and rooms. I would recommend you book cottages (specify front row cottages -as they have the best view and added privacy). Will I return? Yes, if the above changes can be made.
Rustic, adventurous and slow
We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at Khem Villas. Few pointers -They have a fixed menu. Very extensive and fresh food. you can request them to cook you something tho. -There is no room service, you can also eat at breakfast, lunch and dinnertime and tea. -Ask for DV and Dinesh as your guide and go for beautiful nature walks around the property that has crocodiles and many other wildlife and birds -Beaware that this property might not be suitable for all as the property is quite rustic and animals do sometimes enter the surrounding area around the camp. However this is not unsafe at all. -There is wifi only in the lobby area -The staff was very courteous and accomodating, really grateful for their service -The people who came here were mainly focused on safari and were enjoying staying in a rustic slow pace of environment, and not concrete and contemporary. They do need to have an intercom in their room for any emergencies. We suggested this to the manager and he readily listened to it.
It’s definitely not luxury for the price you pay
Yes, the place is beautiful, yes the rooms are very nice, bathroom spacious and staff friendly. But... for the price one is paying.. one expects to be ensconced in luxury. Throw that thought out!! No phone in the room and no wifi. Mobile service too is negligible. So if you want something, you have to walk to the reception and heaven forbid if they forget to bring something or you forgot to tell them.. trudge back for another trip. Forget turn down service.. Oh! They do a lip service to it but you won’t recognise it. Food is very monotonous, boring and average. As we were few there was no buffet but the f&b staff wasn’t even able to tell us what all was available. Till it hit our table, we were clueless, as a result we would fill our stomach thinking this is all it is and then some other dishes (which we may have preferred) kept arriving. It’s not the staff, it is the service that is the problem. What you train is what you get. We went to the extent of meeting the owner and giving the feedback.. but all we heard was excuses and it was clear that the feedback was not being received well. They thought we were angling for a discount.. and for the record we didn’t accept any discount. We just thought that it is such a beautiful place and minor adjustments will make it the best! One suggestion to them if they are willing to listen. Please don’t say that we know there is bad mobile service and do nothing about it. How about keeping cheap mobile phones in the room so that the guest doesn’t have to run around for service.
