An amazing experience at Pench Tree Lodge ❤️
Pugdundee Safaris ❤️ An experience of a Lifetime. I recently visited Pench Tree Lodge by Pugdundee Safaris located in the Pench Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh. For 2 nights I stayed in this lovely Cottage of this Beautiful Property. They have 6 Cottages and 6 Treehouses with a lovely Dining Hall which has a Library, TV area and Swimming Pool. I also went for a early morning Jungle Safari where I came across Wild Animals like Jackals, Spotted Deers, Samba Deers, Peacocks, Wild Boars, Gaurs, Monkeys, etc. We had a nice Safari Breakfast in the Canteen Zone of Pench Tiger Reserve and also tried Aloo Bonda, the speciality of Madhya Pradesh like our Batata Vada. Got a chance to visit the local weekly market of Vijaypani village where there were different Stalls liek the Namkeen & Sweets, fresh water roasted fish, Paan, etc. All in all an amazing experience at the Pench Tiger Reserve and I cannot wait to visit back soon.
An amazing experience at Pench
This was our first trip to Pench Tiger Reserve and to a Pugdundee property. We chose this property as we had read and heard so much about Pugdundee safaris. After being stuck home for nearly a year due to COVID, we needed a break and we also had our anniversary coming up. Location : The property is located around 10 kms from the Karmajhiri gate of the Pench Tiger Reserve. We had trouble reaching the resort as we relied on Google maps. From Nagpur airport, we took the outer ring road and via Kamptee took to NH44 and drove towards Seoni. Based on GoogleMap's suggestion, we took a left at Khawasa and drove almost 25km before hitting no-man's land. Called up the resort who asked us to get back to NH44 and then continue towards Seoni and then take a left at Sukhtara. This meant we lost almost an hour and half. Do not rely on GoogleMap for every situation. Property : The property does not share boundaries with the buffer zone of the park and is instead surrounded by farms. However the feel inside the property is awesome with plenty of trees and other greenery with very minimal changes to the natural topography to ensure a very eco sensitive setup. Room : We chose the cottage for our 4N/5D stay. The room was quite large and also had a mezzanine level with a queen bed. Attention to detail was amazing and every little touch added to the experience. Hospitality : This was easily the best part. Every request of ours was taken care of. Each and every member of the staff always had a smile on their face. Even though it was March, it rained on a couple of days which made the early morning drives a bit cold. However they gave us ponchos and blankets to ensure we were comfortable. Food - Lunch and dinner were set menu affairs. However there was quite a variety on offer. Chef Pankaj is an absolute master chef. Every dish he served was lip smacking. The Mahua ice cream (made of the mahua fruit from the trees in the property) was the best of the lot for me. If there was anything i could nitpick for improvement, it is around the quantity of food. We faced this on 2 particular occasions during our stay. One of the days during lunch, we requested for additional servings of Dal, when the serving staff told us that they had run out of it and we have to wait for around 20 mins for the next round. The other occassion was during breakfast (on our last day), they dished out Idlis. We being south indians, always love to have the extra serving of sambar and chutney which they ran out of and we were asked to wait for 20 mins. Not sure why this happened. I did read a review of another guest who ran into similar issue. Hence the management could look at this and am sure this can be fixed. Although this left us a bit disappointed, the overall experience was more than made up with everything else. The private bush dinner where chef Pankaj baked a cake for us made it a very special anniversary for us. Overall : Special thanks to Harish (Property Manager), Swanand and Gaurav (In-house naturalists), Pankaj (Chef) and Ramakant (restaurant staff) for making our trip and the anniversary very special. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and based on our experience, will always recommend Pugdundee to friends and family. We are already looking forward to our next trip to a new Pugdundee property.
A mixed Bag!!
Good things first Pungdundee group is run by good people. They are seized of the current situation and they try to make the stay as safe and be as accommodative as possible. We had to shorten our stay because of lockdown at Nagpur and they refunded the money without even our asking for it. Absolutely appreciate the gesture. The cottages in which we stayed were very spacious with two levels … so my son had some privacy of his own. The rooms were very well looked after and kept clean and tidy and toiletries provided were of good quality. The cottages opened into the resort’s own little jungle which was the best part of the cottage. We could sit there with our coffee watching the visiting kingfisher, Orioles and Hornbills. The naturalist who accompanied us on the safaris was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Most people were very courteous and cheerful. However, there is lot that can improve.. The shower in the bathroom spewed water at every unintended direction and I’m sure could easily have been fixed had the housekeeping been more attentive. The wifi is next to non-existent which too I’m sure could be fixed. The walk-in closet walks right into the washroom so while its good for the person using the washroom it’s a tad stretch when the whole family is rushing for the early morning safari. The roof of the cottage is probably made of metal and hence makes whole lot of noises ruining sleep quality. On one of the nights there was a strong sustained breeze and lying on the bed it felt as if we were in a midst of a hurricane. There are regular power outages and when that happens at late night, the backup power takes a long time to come on and hence you are struggling between fluctuating temperature severely affecting sleep quality. The weakest link is its food. Though their dinners are sufficient and sumptuous the same isn’t the case with breakfast or lunch. The bread served in breakfast is hard and chewy and the parathas are quite listless and the egg preparation wholly unappetizing. First day lunch was for some reason a vegetarian fare with deep fried vegetables and rice in curried carrots called veg biryani. The rose petalled ice cream was not palatable. On other days for lunch chicken was served but we always felt as if they are running short of it because the servers were very hesitant to serve a second helping. The mutton and fish served for dinner were delicious but for some reason they never appeared for lunch. The other problem is that the resort allows large groups bookings. Which in India means howling group of children accompanied by boisterous and argumentative and extremely loud parents. We couldn’t sit on verandah in the evening because of loud uproarious bunch of kids howling away in the adjacent cottage and couldn’t have a peaceful dinner because their loud parents were howling at dinner table without a care in the world about other residents. So, if you are the kind of traveler like us, who prefer peace and quiet, then this certainly is not the place for you. Overall a mixed bag.
A Jungle Sanctuary
While there were so many other Wildlife lodges in and around Pench, we specifically chose this place because of the boutique vibe it had. And thankfully the place lived up to the expectations. It delivered the right quantity of luxury, perfect levels of eco-friendliness, wonderful wilderness ambiance, and the appropriate dose of personalized hospitality. And at the price we paid, this place was worth every penny we shelled. LOCATION: Excellent location just 2.5 hours from Nagpur airport and right in the buffer zone of Pench national park. Just a 15-minute ride away from the Karmajhiri Gate. DINE + DRINK: One of the highlights of the property. Excellent Chef cooked A la carte meals that were served as part of every meal(that were included in the package). Usually in African Safaris the meals are buffet and more communal. Not here. WE were pampered personally and served a wonderful assortment of gourmet meals for every meal. And the staff kept indulging us to be more decadent and reemphasize we were on a wildlife vacation and not on a detox diet retreat! ROOM: We stayed in Cottage 1 which was a lovely fusion between a western Cabin-in-the-woods and a Tropical Jungle Lodge; VIEW: Uninterrupted view of the Jungle behind ; SIZE: Very spacious room with 2 levels(like a Loft) with an additional bedroom at the top; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Wonderful organic cosmetics by SOULTREE eco-friendly brand FACILITIES: No Gym. But they have a lovely pool with a spectacular jungle backdrop. Not warm in winter though! SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to Upkar, RAKESH, and RAMAKANT at the restaurant. The naturalist GAURAV took care of our safari’s and activities and kept us well entertained and educated. Chef Pankaj is a great asset of the property too, as the meals we ate were one of the highlights of the stay and the trip itself! . And finally Mr.Harish the Manager who made our stay even more special. And a super special call out to Sangita (from Reservations) for making this special occasion even more special! HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: No Internet or TV in the room. They give a hotspot device which is practically useless! Perfect way to Unplug and Unwind and get into the Jungle mode! COVID UPDATE: The property has done an excellent job of ensuring safety , social distancing and hygiene to minimise the risk as much as possible. Especially the Common areas and Restaurant had good implementation of the required rules
Too good property. Very peaceful n calm The tree house 👌🏼👌🏼👍 very spacious with viewing balcony. Staff were very cordial & extremely helpful, especially chef Pankaj. Jungle safari experience was also extremely thrilling n beautiful. Our Naturelist Mr. Shivkumar was excellent & very knowledgeable, without him it would have not been that exciting. Thank you so much team Pugdundee 🙏🏼
