Property Demanding a Renovation
Visited Taj Mahua Kothi this June 2021 with family. Traveling in Pandemic times is a risky affair and we wanted to choose a property that would at least tick all the correct boxes as far as safety was concerned. We were left with two choices - Samode Safari Lodge and Taj. Since we had already visited Samode a few months back, we decided to give Taj Mahua Kothi a try. Safety: As far as safety and covid guidelines are concerned, the Hotel did not disappoint. All the employees were vaccinated at least partially. No employee was allowed to leave the property and if he/she had to, they were tested again before they entered the property. Weather: June being rainy seasons, the resorts generally close during this period. However this time there is an extended run and the Safaris are open till June end. However, it rained for 50 percent of our stay and we had to stay indoors most of the time. Amenities: In general one would not expect many amenities in Jungle resorts and same goes with this resort as well. They have a medium sized lobby which doubles up as a dining area with a beautiful view at the front. They have a spa and a souvenir shop. The swimming pool was closed, but what was disappointing was the way it was maintained. They have a property in 45 acres and they could have had a few more dining options. They apparently had one just a little away but was closed due to rains. Rooms and Housekeeping: The rooms and housekeeping were a disappointment. A few reason why *Our rooms had cobwebs. *The bedsheets were blood stained. *One expects the rooms to be hygienic, but there were cockroaches everywhere. There were insects everywhere. One can understand that insects do tend to surface more in rainy seasons, but the situation here was out of controls and cockroaches were rampant. *Rooms were old. There was a hole in the roof from where mice would come down into the room. *There were some artefacts outside our room and they were broken. Infrastructure and Maintenance: The lobby cum dining area needs maintenance. The sofas were not clean. Just behind the area old broken chairs were all put as if they were a dump. They have a terrace upstairs which gives a nice view of the surrounding with entrance gate within the lobby. The terrace was dirty with broken tables placed there. The road to the rooms were all muddy and were full of huge potholes. It was risky passing through these areas at night. They need to provide a paved pathway to the rooms at the earliest for safety of residents. The extra beds given in the rooms were not actually beds. They were Khatias which were dilapidated due to overuse. It was impossible to sleep on them. Safaris: We could not go on Safaris due to incessant rains. Food: Food was top notch and the only saving grace during the trip. The chefs went out of their way to fetch us everything we demanded. They really are doing a fantastic job in the midst of a jungle. I would rate this property just average and over charging considering the lack of infrastructure and poor housekeeping practices.
Safaris & Sojourn
We had an amazing time in Taj Mahua Koti, Bandhavgarh. All aspects of the trip right from planning, to transportation, stay, food, safaris and the health protocols were taken care of exceptionally well. The services of the staff, butlers, naturalists and the chefs were truly reflective of the Taj hospitality. Daily briefings on the activities, food preferences and the surprise dinner arrangements made it all the more exciting. Such luxury in the middle of the forest is something that even the best of African safaris don’t offer. Our special thanks to: a. Amit, Rajkumar, Chef Ram Swaroop, and all the other staff at Mahua Koti; b. Naturalist Harshvardhan Singh who gave us valuable insights about the animals, birds, insects and trees of the forest. We were also lucky to spot tigers, wild animals and birds from close distance multiple times during our safaris, thanks to the excellent knowledge and experience of Harsh and guides. Overall, it was a welcome break for us from the difficult covid situation. We are thankful to each one at the Taj Mahua Koti who made this trip memorable and special to us. Please pass on our sincere appreciation to all of them. We would definitely recommend the property to anyone who wishes to explore the national parks of Madhya Pradesh.
The arrival, the room, the service, the care, three different sets of meals on three days - all in very different ambience and atmosphere, the chef, the general manager of the lodge (Amit), the drives, the naturalist (Raj Kishore), the knowledge - all OUTSTANDING!
Actually i didn’t stayed in the property because at my dates the price was quite high but being a taj InnerCircle member i went to visit the property out of my curiosity and guess what i was very much disappointed to see the poor maintainence of the property plus the staff member who showed us the property was sounding very arrogant...Its the first time in my life when i found myself to be very pleased of not staying with taj ..For taj i would only say please take this review very seriously...thanks
Tajness at its best
We traveled as a family with 1 child. Bandhavgarh was the 3rd Taj Lodge in the series of Pench (in Nov) and Panna (Dec) - and truly, the best was reserved for the last. 1. Rooms: 12 cottages in unique village-style : we had cottage 2. The main room is smaller compared to other Taj Lodges of Pench and Panna (which are massive), but its cosy with all the facilities and a nice outer courtyard where we enjoyed our in-between safaris time and evening snacks. 2. Safaris: We had zero tiger sightings before Bandhavgarh - and here we had 100% hit rate (tells you how much luck has a role), We had 3 tiger sightngs in 3 drives - and all of them were clear and good. We took 1 drive with Taj and other 2 on our own with local guides. The drive with Taj turned out to be the best : the team of Taj Naturalist (Raj ji) and local guide Raghuji - was a great time and we saw "Chota Bheem" for almost 30 min : prowling, spray marking, taking a bath in the pond, crossing the road. Raj ji with his exceptional tracking skills and perspective of the jungle that can only come through experience - is a real gem. The other 2 naturalists : Karun (head naturalist) - we had some great conversations and he gave us some good insights and recommendations and Karthikeya : his presentation with Raj ji on life of tigers was an Aha moment and we learnt a lot. 3. Food: Food was some of the best we had across the 3 Taj lodges - Chef Ajit deserves a special mention for taking care of our preferences and dishing out one blockbuster after another. The Badelkhandi Thali was a treat. 4. Burlet service: Butler Bhola (our main butler) and Butlers Rama and Bishnu were impeccable in their hospitality - they were always there for anything. 5. Spa : My wife and I availed the spa and the therapist was amazing - we had a relaxing massage. 6. Lastly, the interactions with the Lodge managers was a highlight. Amit Singhvi (the GM) - had a captivating conversation about resorts and hotels and his leadership reflects in the Tajness of the lodge. Amit Namdeo - had a great time interacting with him and his family. Excellent stay and experience - Tajness at its best.
