Paradise On Earth
It was actually Sept 2019 we stayed at The Cecil. From the moment we stepped through the doors to the moment we left we felt like we were the most special , cared for guests in the whole world. Our room was amazing at the front by the road but very quiet, the room was huge with a seating area , a large dressing area and a glorious bathroom... Everything was spotless... We add the adjoining room for our adult son and his room was amazing as well. The staff were the best we have ever encountered in any hotel around the world and we have travelled much; even dare I say better than the staff on Cunard liners which is saying something!! Even as we were touring the Vice Royals home the staff approached us in such a lovely friendly courteous manner, a credit to the hotel . We would sit and listen to the person playing the piano sipping cocktails , we could have been back in the 1920's , a very special feeling after a long day of site-seeing. The breakfasts were excellent , you can eat like a King//Queen ; there were 3 of us one meat eater, one vegan and a vegetarian all catered for. We shall go back for the hotel and it's ambience but also because the staff were beautiful people who appeared to love their jobs....... We left a piece of our heart at The Cecil......
Best in Shimla
I visited the Oberon Cecil for 3 nights as part of a group stay. As everyone else has said this is an excellent hotel with great staff. Could not fault anything. Would be my first choice when returning to Shimla. Wildflower Hall (also Oberoi) is well worth a stop for coffee or afternoon tea.
The Old India
After an 8 hour drive we were delighted to arrive at the hotel. Our timing was good as no sooner had we checked in than two very large groups of train buffs arrived and took the place over. We were shown to our Luxury Rooms with wonderful views over Shimla to the mountains beyond. There was tea and coffee and bottled water available. The rooms certainly were beautifully fitted out and the bathrooms had all modern facilities done in a traditional way. After a walking tour on the first day I booked in for a foot and leg massage in the spa which was excellent. There were two large dining rooms which were full of groups and another area which were tables off a central walkway with people coming and going. We felt pushed out by the groups. We were encouraged to try the evening buffet which we did but it wasn’t great and very busy with the large groups. After that we had the a la carte which certainly made us regret having the buffet! The chef came to check everything was fine and it certainly made us feel a bit more ‘wanted’! Brilliant food. Breakfasts were served in the same area and were very good with lots of choice on the buffet or you could have something cooked for you which we did. We did enjoy the hotel but felt it might have been better without the large groups.
Elegance from a Different Era
Elegant Hotel in Beautiful Mountainous Shimla .Full of character with modern facilities. Very comfortable , superb service , very warm indoor pool ,delicious meals . Excellent breakfasts and buffets but the special Indian set dinner menu and typical Indian breakfast particularly recommended .All the dishes were well explained Wonderful hotel and most memorable stay .
Wonderful old hotel, massive rooms, great swimming pool and beauty salon. Food excellent and service second to none. We could easily have spent a week here instead of 2 nights. Bar a little pricy but we were getting used to that. 15-20 mins walk into the centre of Shimla but perfectly safe.
