We were well looked after here at the Hyatt, especially with personal care from the manager Rahul Verma. Thanks, Rahul. He recommended the Kulcha - a local dish rather like naan bread, but oh so much more delicious!! Apparently it is a real speciality here - very much recommended. The hotel was good, and pretty convenient for both the Golden Temple and for the airport (it's on the outskirts). But the area around is VERY overcrowded and polluted. (Not the hotel's fault!). The air all over Amritsar was horrible to breathe and we were glad to head off to Shimla and the mountains.
A Comedy of Errors
We arrived on a tour in the early hours. Two of our party were given keys to a room already occupied, two were given a room that had not been cleaned, two were woken by hotel staff at 3 a.m. and asked to change rooms, one couple had to change rooms 3 times. The seat in our room was dirty and stained. You could not make it up. The service in the restaurant was equally bad and it was pointless ordering anything, because it never turned up. I had to stand over the chef to get an omelette, but it took 3 of them to cook it, one to put the egg in the pan, another to add the cheese and yet another to flip it over. In fairness, the buffet food itself is quite good, but they urgently needs to do some staff training and the general ambience is a bit tired.
A very good hotel and helpful staff. Very convenient location for the Golden temple. The food on offer is excellent with a good mix of Indian/local food and European. Huge shopping mall directly opposite the hotel which also offers good shopping facilities and named brands with a huge supermarket on the ground floor. The border ceremony with Pakistan is a must to see.
Nice hotel but service needs improvement
Not a good start to our India Tour - arrived at our first hotel the Hyatt at 03:30 in the morning feeling exhausted after travelling for almost 20 hours. Booking in went smoothly, we were allocated our room and told our cases would follow shortly. After half an hour and wanting to go to bed (with a coffee), phoned reception to ask where our cases were. Two minutes later a bellboy appeared to COLLECT our cases. After a long discussion he apologised and confessed he hadn’t “been listening to his boss”. He then left to get our cases together with with a replacement for the broken kettle we had. 10 minutes later our cases arrived. 10 minutes after that a kettle arrived but didn’t fit the base. Shortly after a new base arrived. We forgot the coffee and went to bed. Breakfast the following consisted of mostly Indian selections with very little European choice. Chose the safe option and ordered fried eggs. After 30 minutes gave up on the waiter returning with it and went and ordered another one and stood there (much to the waiters annoyance) while it was cooked. Could be a good hotel but needs great improvements in customer service.
AWESOME PLACE TO STAY!
This hotel is a must on your list of places to stay in Amrtisar. The staff is welcoming and the service is impeccable. The buffet has unlimited variety, we were served by a gentleman named Suraj and his service was incredible, so calm and patient with our needs, and always ensured we were receiving the best quality food and service throughout our time at the buffet.
