Opposites attract: finding your dream honeymoon
Your plans for the big day are complete. You’ve got the venue booked, the garments have been chosen and the invitations have been sent out. Now it’s time to plan your escape...
...Of course we’re talking about the blissful honeymoon!
Everyone’s idea of the perfect honeymoon is different. From relaxing beach escapes on the Indian Ocean to African safaris – the possibilities are endless and the only requirement is that this trip has to be perfect. So what if your honeymoon needs are different from your future spouse’s? Here is a selection of our favourite honeymoon ideas for unusual comparisons.
African safaris vs relaxing beach escapes
You dream of hot air ballooning at dawn and spotting the Big Five in an open 4x4, whilst your other half envisages powder soft sands and crystal clear waters on an idyllic beach escape. There are plenty of African safari and beach combos to choose from such as Kenya and Mombasa, Tanzania and Zanzibar or Cape Town and Mozambique - which are all accessible within a short flight from each other. You could even combine your African safari with the powder soft shores of the Seychelles or Mauritius for added luxury!
Cities vs secluded islands
You may have agreed on the desired country but perhaps you’re still deciding on the resort. Thailand features a variety of resorts ranging from the world-famous capital of Bangkok – a nightlife and food lover’s idyll, to the secluded shores of Koh Yao Noi – a tropical unspoilt hideaway. Transferring between resorts couldn’t be easier within Thailand, as the country offers a selection of domestic and international airports – making the perfect twin-centre destination.
Long distance vs short haul
If the far shores of Australia, New Zealand or the South Pacific are calling for you to celebrate your honeymoon, but your spouse doesn’t seem so keen on a long distance flight, why not break up your journey with a stopover in the glittering city of Dubai - accessible in just seven hours and home to man-made beaches, deserts and an exciting cityscape. For more of a tranquil alternative, you could spend a few days in the sleepy Musandam Peninsula, where a peaceful and mountainous backdrop awaits.
Wildlife vs culture
You want to see tigers, panthers, leopards and elephants and your spouse wants ancient sights, colonial architecture and romantic backwater cruises followed by mouth-watering fiery cuisines. The compromise? How about an enchanting adventure through India: whether you traverse via overnight sleeper trains or whether you opt for a long or short tour in the comfort of an escorted tour group - there’s so much to see and do in this beguiling country.
Spa vs activities
Arranging one of the most important days of your life is stressful, so it’s no surprise to us if a spa honeymoon sounds like paradise. However, if recharging your batteries with daily massages, body scrubs and local therapies isn’t your other half’s idea of heaven – but snorkelling and diving is – simply pick a resort that offers the best of both worlds, just like Kuredu Island Resort in the Maldives. This resort boasts a sumptuous spa and great activities which include a PADI dive centre, non-motorised watersports and sunset sailing. The hotel is also an all-inclusive resort, making a fantastic added bonus!
