I'm a Fan!
I had always wanted to travel to Santorini and when looking for a place to stay I wanted to select a hotel that reflected all the beautiful views you always see online. What I didn't realize was that those views involve hotels that require you to go up and down many steps. From our room up to the top of the circle where we would meet transportation was over 150 steps. Not an easy feat since the steps are of different sizes and heights! Just something to keep in mind if you're not physically fit or if you have mobility issues. This might have been mentioned on the hotel's website but I don't recall seeing it. The rooms themselves are lovely and well appointed. I was a little surprised that you couldn't use the tap water to brush your teeth but housekeeping always provided enough bottle water to keep on hand. I found the hotel staff very accommodating and even before we arrived the concierge contacted to me to see if they could assist with restaurant recommendations or things to do. I love the memory box they gave us at check in. That was a nice and unexpected touch. All in all it was a great experience but given the price of the room I did have high expectations. There is a reason why this hotel has so many 5 star reviews!
Grace Hotel surpassed all of our expectations sourced from viewing all of the reviews. Began with the transfer from the airport, the porters delivering our bags, and the welcome glass of champagne. The hotel and its views were as stunning as advertised. The room was clean, comfortable, spacious, and provided a great view from the balcony. You do need to be relatively fit to go up the stairs- a common theme in Santorini. You really appreciate the porters transporting luggage. Highly recommend for a special visit to a special island.
BOUND TO RETURN.....
......the check out was followed by a persisting thought 'what is the soonest that I can come back'. Yes, Santorini is a self standing amazing experience but Grace certainly assisted to explode the ambience of our stay. A walk along the Caldera from Imerovigli to Fira, is an evidence itself that Grace is the best place to stay! The exclusivity and seclusion that Grace provides, is unique but also rare, considering that in most -if not all- other hotels, the view is interrupted by pass-by travelers due to the infrastructure of the walkways. the location is right on the peak of the morphology triangle of Imerovigli providing the best edge experience. the personnel is carved at global standards of service and their approach is impeccable! the amazing setting and design of common areas is perfect for the last touch on this art work during sunset. the interior design of rooms is spectacular with a very well balance approach to the 'character' of the island, providing the customer with the required privacy. what triggered our overwhelming surprise, was the level of cleanliness in all areas. Although we visited the hotel just before the seasonal end, everything was so neat, that made it look like we were the first customers at the seasonal start up. Having an extensive experience from top 5* hotels globally, I can certainly confirm that Grace and all management/ personnel embracing this project(at the end of the day it is all about people), have achieved an extraordinary result of top global rating experience. It is needless to say, that Grace has overcome our expectations, tendering great value for money spend. no second thoughts!
Mixed service quality with perfect location
Let’s start with the positives: The location and view is unbeatable. Room is modern looking and well maintained. We stayed at VIP Suite #44 but experienced issues with the faulty aircon with periodic noise and would turn off by itself. The very kind and helpful lady (she is probably the manager) from the reception promptly addressed to the problem and moved us to Grace Suite #54 when the staff couldn’t fix the aircon issue at Suite #44. Now onto the negative: We had an issue with the attitude of the bar attendant at The Lounge on Oct 12, 2019 (Saturday) at around 4:30pm. I kindly asked the bartender (who was the only staff present at The Lounge) to take a picture for us and provided exact direction on how I wanted the photo to be framed (as I wasn’t satisfied with his initial shot), but he reacted negatively, refused to listen, walked away with an attitude saying, “I am just the bartender, not a professional photographer”. I was being totally kind/courteous and was shocked that he reacted in such a negative way. There was no miscommunication or misunderstanding at all. I would suggest the hotel management to address this issue and provide necessary training for this staff member to improve on his attitude and service quality. It is such a pity that our stay at this supposedly marvellous property is tainted at the last hour by this rude staff member at The Lounge.
6 days at the Grace
Overall rating is a 4.5. Views- majestic to say the least. You never get sick of the view and have amazing sunsets-one nite was magical with orange then red hues until 8 (sun set at 7:10 while we visited) Breakfast- spectacular staff (Can, Niki and Alex) they started your day out on a beautiful note, really made you feel special. Food was different every day but in the same format. It was nice to be able to try different items out of our normal routine. This area has great views too. Room- we splurged on the VIP plunge pool suite and were upgraded to the Grace Suite (#43) as it was my birthday celebration. We originally picked the VIP as it had its own private entrance and not by the pathway to the rock. The Grace was right next door but was still off the pathway which was always busy. It was a little bigger with an indoor jacuzzi. We only wished the water could have been hotter. The only negative to having the indoor jacuzzi was it made the bathroom continually humid as it was not separated at all. The room itself was kept clean. We don’t like our bed touched after our first sleep and the housekeeping honored that request which was a nice surprise as other hotels of this caliber have not. The young maid was very sweet and could understand English much better than the middle aged maid who we thought was her superior as we never saw her clean anything. And she could never understand us and wasn’t very pleasant. Reception- Eleni was an absolute delight and beyond welcoming. The woman who checked us in was friendly (sorry I forgot her name, it was late!) as well as Mike who helped with booking a wine tour. Location-very happy we didn’t stay in Oia or Fira- too busy in both. Imerovigli is a picturesque, quiet and quaint. Only draw back would be all the steps if you are elderly or disabled. Lounge- outstanding service but I don’t know the gentleman’s name (9/22 at sunset & 9/24 around 8:30pm) I probably would’ve given a 5 rating but our service our last full day was subpar. We called for someone to skim some bread pieces out of our plunge pool and after 45 min, had to call back and waited another 45 min. Til someone came. Same thing happened with getting an umbrella for patio shade- waited 45 min. then had to call again. We had an umbrella the day before but for some reason they took it back. Then housekeeping came by (middle aged woman I mentioned) asked when they could clean, we said now would be fine, she said wait a minute and then no one came for over an hour. We also saw a worker throw a plastic cup, a tourist left on the steps to the rock, over the hill. Not okay. Overall this place should not be missed.
