We stayed at the Gecotel in October. Reading the reviews before we went I was a bit apprehensive but I don't know what the complaints were about it was excellent. I don't eat meat andI am a bit of a fussy eater but there was lots of choice even for people like me. Our side sea room had an amazing view and the room was one of the nicest we have stayed at. The staff were so helpful - service at the bar was a little slow at times but only because it was busy. All in all a lovely holiday.
Perfect October Holiday
My best friend and I stayed for a week during the October school holidays to celebrate our 30th birthdays and had the best time. The hotel is beautiful with all facilities we could have needed and every member of staff was always super friendly and eager to help. Our room was spacious with a refurbished bathroom, we shared a King size bed which was very comfy and had a partial sea view. It is right on the beach, less than 5 minutes walk from the main pool, a sting beach but still beautiful and it has a wee pier to jump off if you want to avoid the short walk to the water over stones. We were all inclusive which I think is the only option at the hotel, I have never been all inclusive before and was nervous as whenever I’ve been Full or Half Board I’ve been disappointed with the food choice, however the food was excellent! There are two a la carte restaurants and we dined at both, both were delicious and served up about five courses worth of food as standard with excellent service. Unfortunately the Greek outdoor restaurant wasn’t open during our stay as it was end of season, however the food available in the main buffet changed every night, was always a great selection and was fantastic quality. We had actually planned to revisit one of the a la carte before we left and ended up forgoing in favour of the buffet because it really was excellent! The all inclusive also included every drink you could imagine and had really knowledgeable bar staff. The hotel also has a little supermarket onsite if you need souvenirs or some snacks for the room but food is available 24 hours in a little bistro so there is no need, and the rooms are restocked with water daily. Location-wise it’s not too far outside of Faliraki, you could get a taxi in if you wanted a varied nightlife however we drove through on Saturday night and it was dead as again it was end of season so I’d suggest this is really only an option for the summer. Really we can’t fault our stay and we had a fab time!! If I HAD to give some negatives, it would be that there wasn’t a full length mirror on the room which would have been appreciated and that because it was end of season we did miss the Greek style outdoor restaurant and the last couple of days things like the beach bar, water slides and a la carte restaurants closed. Really it did not impact our stay at all though and I would highly recommend!
I arrived late evening and was greeted by Antonia from guest services and taken straight to my room, unfortunately this room had a bath with shower over and as I have mobility problems it wasn't suitable. Antonia arranged for me to move to a room with a shower cubicle just over 24 hours later, I was extremely grateful. Over the next few days the staff greeted me with such warmth and genuine hospitality, I have stayed at this hotel many times and it's the staff that actually make my holiday. They are always smiling and carry out their jobs in each department to a very high standard, the management should be very proud of them. I do wish that the reception was moved back to where it used to be, near the entrance ..…. that's where it should be! Not around the corner in a very small area, the receptionists do well to work behind such a small desk. I've got used to the new Dining Room, but guests do have to walk backwards and forwards quite a lot to get all they want for their meal, the layout of food needs to be readdressed. I went to 2 of the a la carte restaurants, Madame Butterfly and the Olive, both were first class. The food in both restaurants was excellent and there was plenty of choice on both menus. The service from the young staff was really good, attentive but not over the top. I recommend a visit to these restaurants. The food in the main Dining Room is very good, plenty of variety and well cooked and presented, it could be hotter though. The Lobby Bar staff work extremely hard and are always happy and cheerful to everyone. They look after me really well especially Dimitris and Giorgios, thank you both. Evening entertainment is quite good and there's something for everyone. The swimming pool is lovely and when I was there, there were enough sunbeds for everyone, pool towels are provided in your room. A bus timetable can be provided from reception, the bus to Rhodes town runs every 20 minutes and costs 2.40 euros. There's plenty to see, there's a old town within old castle walls and a new town with shops, boutiques and restaurants. The bus to Lindos costs 4.90 euros and takes about 50minutes, it's well worth a visit. A shuttle bus costing 50 cents can take you down the really steep hill to the town and back again. Christina from Guest Services is a gem and checked in with me to see that everything was ok for me all the time, I really appreciate that and also Antonia, you both do an excellent job. Look forward to seeing you next year.
Just returned after a wonderful week's holiday at Grecotel faliraki. Everything was perfect. Arrived at midnight after quite a delay getting in and out of the airport. This was are only issue which of course is not the hotel's problem. Thankfully when we arrived at the hotel the welcome from the receptionist was outstanding and set us up for a brilliant week. Unfortunately I can't remember his name but we arrived midnight on Saturday 5th October. We wondered into the hotel and out of nowhere we were welcomed by this young man. Within a very short space of time he had us checked in, set up the free WiFi on our phones, had our luggage sent to our room so we could get some refreshments. The hotel is superb. Walkout of the lobby bar at night and what a superb view you get of the huge swimming pool. Would recommend paying the little extra for a sea view room. In the views are delightful as they are in the evening when lit up. This holiday was planned as a total chill ie soak up the sun and eat and drink well. In the daytime you are spoilt for choice were to sunbathe - pool serviced by its own small bar, beach again serviced by its own bar offering a much larger variety of drinks or the gardens. No problems getting a sunbed. On the dining front the highlight was the olive restaurant. The fillet steak was beautiful and also the experience of cooking it yourself on a hot stone really added to the experience. We also had a lovely evening in the Asian restaurant. We were not able to book the Greek restaurant due to the time of the year unfortunately but understood it was closed as this time of the year getting a little cooler close to the sea. So the other 5 nights we ate in the buffet restaurant and we were not disappointed. Yes the food can get a little repetitive but it is of a very high standard. The staff were unbelievably obliging and extremely friendly. So after dinner we would enjoy a few drinks in the lobby bar which again was extremely enjoyable. It is a very busy bar but the staff were extremely hard working and I do have to compliment Giorgio and Dimitrus for the fun and attention we were offered. In conclusion then I wish I had a good memory and could include the names of all the staff who looked after me. I would conclude though that ALL the hotel staff were brilliant and made us extremely comfortable. We will be back.
We have just spent 10 days at this lovely hotel, with very few complaints. There were just a few things that kept me from giving a perfect scoring. We arrived just after lunch and although Reception is a little tricky to find (as other reviewers have said) it wasn’t too difficult and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were shown straight to lunch, which was lovely. Overall the food is great here - plenty of choice and the staff were amazing - especially Eleni (left hand side). Nothing was too much trouble. Lots of variety and great salad selection- yes on some days there were queues but I don’t believe any popular hotel would have no queues at peak lunch/dinner times. Food could have been a little hotter at times. We struggled a bit to get reservations in the Asian and Olive Restaurants but we did finally manage to eat there and both were excellent and made a nice change from the main. Great to have snacks at lunch/late night, if needed. Drinks were amazing - extensive cocktails and branded spirits on tap! Room - we paid £90 each to upgrade to a sea view room (quite expensive) and our room was in the main building on the 4th floor - we did have a great view but there were a few improvements that could be made - mainly to the bathroom, which was very small with a very weak shower. The smell from the drain in there was almost overpowering and for the most part we had to keep the door closed. The hairdryer is very dated and gets so hot you can’t hold it (fixed to the wall). Room was cleaned well but the toiletries were not restocked unless we asked. I believe that the rooms should have had a mini bar but we just had water - which again was not replaced on a daily basis. We also had noise from an external air conditioning unit on a continuous basis. The entertainment was good, especially The Drifters tribute and nice to have the option of lobby bar, beach bar etc. Stella in the Beach Bar was amazing and always happy and helpful. Participated in stretching class and aqua aerobics each day which were great, as were the two lovely instructors ( one from Iceland and the other from Slovakia - sorry forgot names). Sun beds not an issue but I think that was because it was near to end of season and so far less people than in peak summer. Was rather disappointed to see that many of the facilities were closing up for the last week of season - shame for those staying to the end as this wasn’t explained, ie waffle bar / beach bar. Location - was great - we got the bus to Rhodes (very busy and no obvious queuing system) and the water taxi back which was lovely. We also took the water taxi to Lindos for a half day trip - which is recommended. Overall - a fab holiday and loved every moment - Brits should be aware that this hotel is predominantly German and Russian and we were definitely the minority - however, would definitely recommend.
