Portomyrina Palace Beachclub

The Neilson Portomyrina Palace Beachclub is situated in a beautiful bay on the unspoilt Greek island of Lemnos in the northeast Aegean Sea.

From the bay, the views towards Mount Athos on the Greek mainland are beautiful and most evenings you will be treated to the most spectacular sunsets over the pool and bar area.

The spacious, flat layout, 50-metre swimming pool, lovely spa and short airport transfer make it a popular choice with everybody, especially families. It’s a great choice for all activities, in particular dingy sailing and mountain biking.

Key information

A fifteen minute stroll from the Portomyrina Palace lies Myrina, the capital of Lemnos. Built in the 12th or 13th century BC, Myrina is dominated by an impressive Venetian castle. The headland and castle straddles the two bays of Myrina, belonging to the town’s Greek and Turkish quarters. Today the only permanent inhabitants of the fortress are wild deer, introduced to the village in 1970 from Rhodes. There are plenty of charming shops to browse - look out for classical pottery and wood carvings, local woven fabrics and embroidery - the traditional folk art of the island.

Activities

Dinghy Sailing

The sailing area is extensive, stretching up to 1km offshore and the whole width of the bay. Launching from a shallow sand bar in prevailing onshore winds provides a safe and easy environment in which to further skills, with instructors available to help rig, launch and land equipment as well as ensuring the safety of those on the water.

For the more competitive sailor there are daily Laser races (Monday to Friday) and a great end of week regatta. You can also sail with an instructor on an adrenaline filled Dart 16 joyride.

Windsurfing

Windsurfers of all levels will enjoy the large sailing area, extensive range of kit and expert instruction for beginner to experts. The beach is long and sandy and there is a shallow sand bar to make launching easier.

You don’t need to partake in tuition to enjoy the kit, it’s also possible to take a board and sail at anytime during the day, just ask one of the beach staff and they will get you rigged up and on the water straight away.

Waterskiing and Wakeboarding

Lemnos is a relatively windy island and with the winds being predominately cross onshore it is fairly restrictive for good wakeboarders and waterskiers. That said there are still plenty of days when the sea is calm and conditions are great to get out there crossing the wake or perfecting your slalom skills.

Mountain Biking

Whether looking for a challenging route with plenty of climbing or a gentle cruise to the town of Myrina there is something on offer for everyone. Guided rides are more challenging in the morning, with the leisure rides taking place in the afternoons. Alternatively, guests may take bikes free riding and explore the island between 9am and 6pm every day, with route cards covering the full range of fitness and skill levels available from the information centre.

Tennis

Lemnos has 3 astro tennis courts all floodlit to extend hours of play into the evenings, and between 2 or 3 LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) or PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) qualified tennis coaches. Neilson offer a fully inclusive coaching programme for all ages and abilities, from complete beginner to regular club player.

Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boarding

There are 21 single and double seat kayaks, which you can use to explore the bay. They are available to either take on your own or join the Kayak Safari on a Sunday afternoon or combine some with biking on the ever-popular ‘biyak’.

As well as the kayaks we also have 8 stand up paddle boards, which offer a fun alternative for those wanting to hit the water with paddle rather than sail power.

Fitness and Swimming

The Neilson coaches make use of all the space that the hotel and surrounding area has to offer, whether it be fitness tests in the gym, Aqua aerobics in the pool or morning runs and walks exploring the local area, there are lots of options to keep it cool and varied. The 50m pool has lane markings and is ideal for swim fitness and pool aerobics. There is also an indoor air-conditioned gym with treadmills, bikes, rowing machine, several resistance machines and free weights. The shaded outside fitness area overlooks the sea and is a lovely location to enjoy a range of classes including yoga, Pilates, Zumba and aerobics. Classes such as Fitabll are in the air-conditioned fitness.
