OMG, they have taken my money
This hotel looks beautiful, but do not book it. Due to an unexpected global virus pandemic, they cancelled my pre-paid stay in May 2020 because they were not open. Now they are refusing to give my money back. I have contacted parent group the Marriott, who in fairness, are really helpful and reassured me that in accordance with their policies I should absolutely be refunded. Unfortunately they admitted they have quite a few problems with this hotel not following the guidance. Be warned I have paid this hotel over £3000 on my credit card and they have decided to withhold it for their own purposes for at least 18 months. Worse still they have offered a pointless false promises voucher to rebook which obviously I'm never going to use and this stops me being able to claim on my travel insurance. Avoid, avoid, avoid. They just want your money as cash flow. If you can't resist and think I am a lone voice ranting on the internet then please promise me that you will only visit on a pay at checkout basis. Do not pre-book under any circumstances.
Domes has great restaurants and great service.
This is our 7th year at Domes and the food and service continue to improve. This year they added a new pop up restaurant concept called CORE offering street food in a fun outdoor setting. But all the restaurants from 1910 by the beach to Yosai and Blend are serving great consistently good food with inspired menus. This year a new chef has clearly left his mark. It was lovely to see Linda again the restaurant manager at Thalos where you can enjoy great food, great service and amazing views over the bay. Some amazing dishes include sea bass fricasse at Zeen 1910, chicken steamed buns at Yosai and tomato risotto at blend to name But a few of the exceptional dishes. We enjoyed breakfast every day st Blend the French toast was a particular favourite. A shout out to for Vaitso who remembered us from our previous visits and greeted us warmly and was very helpful with our buffet selections. The villa food service is also great and Domes have been generous to a fault with little gifts of food and lovely Prosecco wine on arrival and departure as their way of saying thank you for returning to Domes. A special thank you to Giorgia and Sophia for helping us though out our stay. As I have said before the wonderful staff are the Domes’s best kept secret....and why we keep returning.
Lovely hotel in great location
We were very fortunate to be upgraded and spent a fantastic week in one of the villas overlooking spinalonga island. The complex is quite large so depending on how far you want to walk you may want to select which part you stay in. The food was delicious and a great variety and selection to choose from. Unfortunately in April the outside pools were too cold to go in. Service was very good, not much entertainment in the evening but we were staying just at the beginning of the season so it may be better during peak time.
Best holiday ever
We had such a wonderful holiday here in September. This hotel really is one of the best we have ever stayed in - we couldn't fault it at all. The staff were absolutely amazing with us and pretty much treated us like royalty throughout our stay. They were all so professional, friendly and lovely with kids too - there are so many hotels out there who could learn a thing or two from them! The hotel is stunning, cleanliness second-to-none, the food delicious - they change the buffet menu every night which prevents boredom and the location is just beautiful with a perfect beach for little ones. The creche facilities and staff were fabulous too. I can't really wait to return. It was one of our ever best holidays! Thanks so much to everyone there for making it so special for us.
Will Definitely Return
We spent three or four days here in late August and enjoyed every moment of it. Wish we had spent a full week. I had never driven in Crete before but found it a very easy. almost a straight shot, from the Heraklion airport. The room was wonderful, though next time I'll probably spend more and go for a dome room. Still our room faced the bay and the views were beautiful. Gorgeous sunrises in the morning and the sun sets behind the lip of the ridge behind the hotel in the evening. The food was excellent, with a buffet breakfast and several restaurants on site for dinner. The Japanese fusion restaurant was especially good. Recommend booking dinner reservations in advance in the July/August high season. Greece is full of history of course and the bay has the island fortress of Spinalonga in the middle of it. 50 euro for a private boat ride over to it where you can walk the trails. Highly recommended. Of course Heraklion and the Minoan ruins are only about an hour away as well.
