I've stayed at many luxury hotels/resorts (mostly in the states), and I can confidently say without a doubt that the Blue Palace takes the number one spot in ALL categories. This was our first vacation in over three years, and it could not have been more PERFECT thanks to the superb team. Popi was our beach club attendant for most of the trip, and she was polite, attentive, QUICK, and literally ALWAYS had a smile on her face. She even made some wonderful cocktail recommendations which we continued to order throughout our stay. Alexandros M (also at the beach club) went out of his way a few times to make sure that we were happy. Stavroula at reception was one of the first faces we saw, and although she was wearing a mask most of the time, I could tell that she was happy to welcome us and she did everything she could to ensure that we were educated about the hotel and offer her services if we ever needed anything. Shout out to Antria (also at reception) who was also a pleasure to speak with. Every morning we looked forward to our breakfast which was included as part of our Marriott status. Niki was there most mornings and greeted us with our names the moment we approached the entrance. She was SO hospitable and went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable. We left SUPER early the following weekend and even at that ungodly hour Alban was there to greet us and send us off with well wishes. He even insisted on having someone retrieve our car. I did not catch the Valets name, but he was also very quick, efficient, and happy to assist. I obviously could not gather everyone's names, but this is the first resort experience where literally EVERY SINGLE PERSON we came into contact with had a smile on their face and were so pleasant and easy to speak to. It's clear that the folks at Blue Palace love their guests and will always go the extra mile to maintain this stature. I would love to say that the crystal clear, blue, clean waters and stunning scenery made out stay perfect, but it was really the resort and the people that work there. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for your hospitality. Hotels and resorts in the states should take notes and learn from you all! We've already made a decision to visit yearly and can't wait to see you all again next year! Efcharisto!
A Truly Awesome Hotel
My husband and I have just returned from a ten night stay at the Blue Palace. The Hotel was absolutely fantastic. Even before we arrived the service was exceptional. Before our arrival the concierge team recommended and booked restaurants for us, both in and out of resort, they also arranged our airport transfers. Every single member of staff, without exception, offer amazing service, they all come across as truly happy to work there. The facilities within the Hotel are fab!! Beach lovely and clean, the pools are beautiful too, huge with a never ending supply of towels!!! We had a Superior Bungalow which was beautifully clean, very modern, spacious with all amenities. The Spa is gorgeous with a fully equipped gym open 24/7!!! The restaurants in the hotel are fabulous and we enjoyed every meal we had. The grounds are beautiful and extremely well kept. The resort is very big but it certainly does not feel it. Plaka is within walking distance and is a beautiful village with lovely shops and restaurants. I have only one request to the Management, we went outside of school holidays but there were a number of children. It would be nice, In line with other luxury resorts, if one of the pools was Adult only, maybe the pool by the Arsenali Bar? We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely return.
Good but flawed
We’re partway through a stay at Blue Palace which is a very nice hotel - with some major flaws. It’s a shame as it could almost be perfect. Flaw 1. Our room has ants roaming the floor, all the time. We don’t leave food out but there are lots of them still. Can’t walk barefoot as we’re worried about stepping on them. Flaw 2. Customer service. Requests are acknowledged, then… ignored. 1. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t get the message button on our phone to stop flashing bright red. I called reception who suggested pressing various buttons, each of which resulted in the error dial tone. They said they’d send someone to fix it. I said we were heading out for dinner but they said this was okay. When we got back, the button was still flashing. I had to unplug the phone so I could sleep. 2. At breakfast there was a guest who carried a small dog with her up to the buffet and held it in one arm as she served herself food with the other. I like dogs but this is so unhygienic. I asked reception what the policy was as I found it off putting that this was happening. They said it wasn’t cool and said they’d make sure it didn’t happen again. Two days later and we see the woman again doing the exact same thing. So they clearly did nothing. 3. A lengthy and boring attempt to get the minibar replenished with chocolate - this never happened. I can’t even be bothered to go into all the detail of this one. Would have loved to recommend this hotel to others but it just doesn’t compare to other similar-level hotels in terms of responsiveness or care.
A lovely relaxing holiday in authentic Greece
We stayed for 2 weeks in June as a couple and would rate 4/5 overall. Transfers from the airport to the hotel ran very smoothly. The driver who met us was very polite and when we arrived to the hotel the lobby is nicely appointed and all staf are well presented and polite. Check in was slightly slow having travelled but a cold drink was a nice touch. The only thing I would say was that we were told no restaurants were available that evening (we checked in about 330pm) and only when we pressed the matter further did a table appear that evening but not until 930pm. A small number of tables should be kept free for guests checking in who don’t know the area. • Rooms. We booked a seaview room with room on the first floor. It was quiet and easy to access the funicular/beach/restaurants and also the road to Plaka. As mentioned in previous posts the rooms are slightly dated compared to other hotels in this category. There are minimal power sockets which means having to unplug lamps or other items. The bathrooms were slightly dated but we did like the separate toilet to the bathroom. The beds are very comfortable and housekeeping ensure there are plenty of fresh towels. Refurbishment is apparently due to commence this year however we enjoyed the room and the lovely view of the sea and Spinalonga Island. • Restaurants. We ate at the Blue door twice which was beautiful (Tzatziki and the lamb chops were our favourite). The staff are lovely and again the views of the sea are perfect to dine next to. We also ate at Asia Deep Blue twice. The food is very nice and we enjoyed the wine list. We would have liked to enjoy Asahi beer down on the beach as we did in Asia Deep Blue but it isn’t available down there. The only thing I think let’s this restaurant down slightly is the interior, we were expecting a Hakkasan type interior (deep blues/moody) but it’s slightly cafe like inside. Leonidis is the perfect host and couldn’t do more for you. We attended the Blaze and Flames night on the beach and the food was very nice however it wasn’t very busy with minimal atmosphere. We only saw this on the app but it didn’t appear to be advertised which was a shame! Breakfast was very good and there’s plenty of choice. We stayed for two weeks and didn’t feel bored although they could have a few ‘special’ items daily to mix it up. Ionna and Niki were great at breakfast and the staff are always very attentive. We didn’t eat at the Italian restaurant or Anthos. The beach food is nice and with plenty of choice. The bar doesn’t have much atmosphere in the evening, one night there was a DJ which was great but he was finished by about 9pm. The drinks service is slow and the cocktails aren’t strong enough. We had espresso martinis and they weren’t quite upto scratch. • The hotel. The hotel is beautiful to walk around and very clean. The funicular is easy to take to each floor although in busier times there may be more of a wait. We were happy to walk between the floors but it’s very confusing and with no signage you can find yourself lost. The beach area is lovely and doesn’t feel crowded at all. I would say there are guests who leave a bit of a mess (towels not put in the bins) and these can sometimes be there for a couple of hours. We rented a small boat for a couple of hours and enjoyed exploring the islands and swimming. The gym we used several times, it’s well air conditioned and quiet, however it could do with updating when you see other hotels in the area such as Daios Cove. We did not use the spa but it looked clean and the staff were polite and presentable. • Staff. All of the staff here are polite, friendly and can’t do enough for you. We did have a small issue with housekeeping the first couple of days (the system in the rooms to notify them that you are in there doesn’t always seem to work) and they did knock at 8am a couple of days to clean the room which is too early for us on holiday. However we just called when we were leaving the room so that they could attend. I think a better system needs putting in place for this and we’ve not had this issue in other hotels. Concierge were very good (thank you George and Lefteris). In other hotels we have been to they won’t recommend restaurants outside of the hotel or they recommend only very expensive restaurants (we prefer a mixture of high end and traditional restaurants) and all of their recommendations were very good. •Outside of the hotel. We ate at Giomma Meze in Agios Nikolaos and the food was lovely with a beautiful view. For Plaka we ate at Ostria and Giovanni’s (the seafood spaghetti was beautiful). We also ate in Elounda at ferryman’s 3 times as we thought the food and view were perfect. We didn’t do much sightseeing as we were there to relax but concierge recommended plenty of great things to do. Overall. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Blue Palace and with a two week stay we didn’t feel bored at all. The staff are lovely and the hotel is beautiful. There were a few things that the hotel could be doing to remain in 5* status but I think with a refurbishment and a few tweaks within the restaurants they can certainly maintain this. Overall we had a lovely relaxing holiday.
Good pool and beach area
Reception staff next to useless and unhelpful. We were not Americans so were given no level of respect to the point of being ignored, especially in the main terrace bar. The food was average in the mean restaurant although the choice was vast. We were not prepared to pay the excessive extra to eat, and drink, at the specialty restaurants on site as there were plenty of good restaurants five minutes down to the road in Plaka. Having said that the room was great - cleaning staff marvellous - the private pool although we had paid extra for it to be heated barely had the edge taken off it (until Americans moved in next door on the last day of our holiday when suddenly the heat was turned up), but the weather was great so a "cool" dip was welcome and was a great addition to our stay! The public spaces were modern and clean. The beach and pool area well kept and well spaced. The funicular an essential and fun addition, although for some reason guests seem to think there wouldn't be another trip that day and crammed into the small space. There should maybe also be a weight limit on it. We would not, however, stay there again which would be a shame as the views and location could not be faulted.
