Fabulous views, peaceful hotel
We came as a last minute half term break in late October 2020. This was the last week of the hotel’s opening for the season and COVID-19 restrictions were in place so not all the restaurants were open. Nonetheless, we had a fantastic time (and there was a deal on reflecting the reduced facilities so we didn’t feel cheated). The rooms were lovely and felt very private given their situation down the hillside. The resort is very large and has beautiful views of Spinalonga. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and remembered us night after night. Given the lateness if the season, some of the pools were cold - the sea was warmer - but there was a well-heated pool by the main hotel building. The restaurants were very good, although the Blue Door Taverna closed when rain was expected which was a shame as that was one we would have liked to have visited more. The hotel was an easy walk to Plaka with a number of bars and restaurants and ferries to Spinalonga. Would come here again.
Relaxing 5* honeymoon
We had a wonderful 11-day stay at Blue Palace! It's really a lovely resort with beautiful decorations and lovely gardens which makes for a very cosy and pleasant atmosphere despite being a rather large hotel and just a short walk to a small village (Plaka) with supermarkets, souvenir shops and tavernas. Our room was spacious and always immaculate and with a breathtaking view across the bay to Spinalonga. Breakfast is tasty and offers a wide variety, dinner in any of the 3 restaurants is simply splendid, we overindulged on several occasions and had to take romantic digestive walks instead of taking the funicular, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to round off the evening with a nice cocktail at the bar. The private beach is also very relaxing, with comfy beds and wooden paths to get across the large pepples. The only downside is that you can't really walk into the sea directly due to differently shaped rocks in the water and the occasional sea urchin, but the floating jetty the hotel provided was a very good solution. In any case we appreciated this more natural state of the beach and not having tons of sand carried here from some other place. We decided to spoil ourselves with a private caique trip with a swimming stop in a secluded bay and lunch on the boat which really was a very special experience - can absolutely recommend! Apart from luxurious amenities and high quality produce what really makes the stay at Blue Palace outstanding is the staff! All the staff members are very attentive, helpful and highly professional - special thanks to Stavroula, Aphroditi and Maria for their genuine warmth and to Simos and Leonidas for the excellent meal recommendations! We can definitely recommend the hotel and plan to return in the future!
Fantastic vacation at the Blue Palace Hotel in Crete !
We stayed 7 days at the Blue Palace , and we could almost sense from our arrival at this would be a special holiday. Check in was easy, we were greeted by a friendly member of the staff , dowloaded the hotel*s app who has all the relevant information, and where whisked away to our room (715) in a buggy. Our room had a breathtaking view , it was awesome to be able. to take a dip in our private pool whenever we felt like it. The bed was very comfortable , there was great bathroom and a walk in closet ( my wife loved it ) , everything was spotless clean and the wifi worked like a dream, both in our room and all over the hotel. We had dinner at 3 different restaurants at the hotel, and never had a problem finding a table there. The quality of the food was good and varied , and we enjoyed our breakfasts in the morning. I have to say that the staff of the Blue Palace is above excelent , always a friendly smile wherever we were, and they were very professional during our stay. A big special efcharistó to Leonidas, Stavroula & Dimitris ( the tall one ) ! We rented a speed boat for a wonderful trip along the coast to Elounda bay, and enjoyed chilling at the beach every single day. We also walked to Plaka for lunch , but did not go to Spinalonga . I can also recommend the Spa, where we had a couple's massage. Just before we left, while sitting on a comfy couch waiting for our taxi, I looked at my wife and said : " we will be back next year " :-)
Nice but not outstanding
Check-in was all weird, with online check-in, took forever, very complicated and at the end you still need to go to the counter. Probably a corona measurement but it doesn’t actually reduce the contact to people as they still need to explain the app etc. Also, for example all restaurant menus are on the app only which i personally find inconvenient, particularly as the app design is not really well arranged in regard to the menu, steange sorting and all right scrolling. In terms of food we can only refer to breakfast and snacks, as dinner we always went to the town. I was really looking forward to the tuesday seafood bbq but that was cancelled due to corona (funny enough, twi reception staff acted like they have no idea what i’m talking about, only the third one i asked told us that this year they don’t have). Breakfast was ok, but compared to other luxury collection hotels we’ve stayed before the selection was very little and quality of food was also lower than expected. The snack menu was basically a burger and a club sandwick or greek salad, NO other choices. You can neither order from other restaurants as obviously they are not connected (?). The resort is beautiful but the latout is quite confusing, we had to walk a long hallway, take two stairs to get to the lobby, then the cog railway to get to the beach. If you want to get to the street level to go to the town, you first go to the beach then take one stair up.... The room was spacious, clean and nicely furnished, we had a balcony with sea view. There are two pools but definately not enough loungers with shadow. At the beach pool you have about 8 seats with shadow, anywhere else there are umbrellas you cannot move (probably due to the strong winds) but it’s also difficult to move the chairs, as there is a wooden area within the big rocks, so getting shade for two is nearly impossible. In the restaurants is all none smoking, which is fine, but after breakfast i like to enjoy my coffee and a cigarette. At the poolside there is exactly 1 spot where you are allowed to smoke in the shade, this spot is nevertheless occupied by the staff of the juwelery shop all day long. When we took an ashtray from the sun to one of the tables in the shade, we were sent away from the staff in a very unfriendly way, when i asked why the other table is occupied the whole day, she said she’ll inform the manager and walked away (as if the manager and the entire staff would not already know this...). We got a late check out by the hotel, but when we returned to the room at 11.01 the door could already no longer be opened with the key so we had to walk back all the way to reception. Overall we had a great stay, but in terms of service there is definately room to improve.
Beautiful view, great property, excellent service
My wife and I stayed at the Blue Palace for 3 nights, and had a wonderful experience. We had a great sea-view room overlooking Spinalonga, and the service was top-notch throughout. They did an excellent job adjusting to COVID given the circumstances, using an app for all bookings and menus. The beachfront in particular was excellent, with great service and plenty of chairs to enjoy. Only suggestion going forward would be to find some way to update real-time for using the gym, but admittedly this is tricky to navigate given COVID.
