Nice but not outstanding
Check-in was all weird, with online check-in, took forever, very complicated and at the end you still need to go to the counter. Probably a corona measurement but it doesn’t actually reduce the contact to people as they still need to explain the app etc. Also, for example all restaurant menus are on the app only which i personally find inconvenient, particularly as the app design is not really well arranged in regard to the menu, steange sorting and all right scrolling. In terms of food we can only refer to breakfast and snacks, as dinner we always went to the town. I was really looking forward to the tuesday seafood bbq but that was cancelled due to corona (funny enough, twi reception staff acted like they have no idea what i’m talking about, only the third one i asked told us that this year they don’t have). Breakfast was ok, but compared to other luxury collection hotels we’ve stayed before the selection was very little and quality of food was also lower than expected. The snack menu was basically a burger and a club sandwick or greek salad, NO other choices. You can neither order from other restaurants as obviously they are not connected (?). The resort is beautiful but the latout is quite confusing, we had to walk a long hallway, take two stairs to get to the lobby, then the cog railway to get to the beach. If you want to get to the street level to go to the town, you first go to the beach then take one stair up.... The room was spacious, clean and nicely furnished, we had a balcony with sea view. There are two pools but definately not enough loungers with shadow. At the beach pool you have about 8 seats with shadow, anywhere else there are umbrellas you cannot move (probably due to the strong winds) but it’s also difficult to move the chairs, as there is a wooden area within the big rocks, so getting shade for two is nearly impossible. In the restaurants is all none smoking, which is fine, but after breakfast i like to enjoy my coffee and a cigarette. At the poolside there is exactly 1 spot where you are allowed to smoke in the shade, this spot is nevertheless occupied by the staff of the juwelery shop all day long. When we took an ashtray from the sun to one of the tables in the shade, we were sent away from the staff in a very unfriendly way, when i asked why the other table is occupied the whole day, she said she’ll inform the manager and walked away (as if the manager and the entire staff would not already know this...). We got a late check out by the hotel, but when we returned to the room at 11.01 the door could already no longer be opened with the key so we had to walk back all the way to reception. Overall we had a great stay, but in terms of service there is definately room to improve.
Beautiful view, great property, excellent service
My wife and I stayed at the Blue Palace for 3 nights, and had a wonderful experience. We had a great sea-view room overlooking Spinalonga, and the service was top-notch throughout. They did an excellent job adjusting to COVID given the circumstances, using an app for all bookings and menus. The beachfront in particular was excellent, with great service and plenty of chairs to enjoy. Only suggestion going forward would be to find some way to update real-time for using the gym, but admittedly this is tricky to navigate given COVID.
We just returned from our holiday to Crete - where stayed at the superb Blue Palace for 7 nights. Our room was a corner room (730) - it was spectacular, stunning view of Spinalonga and with its own private pool. All the staff were amazing from check in to check out and everything in between - so polite, helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Special shout out to Kostas, Concierge Manager, Ioanna on the front desk, Vasilis, Ilias - the list is endless and not forgetting the ladies that cleaned our room so lovingly on a daily basis. We had no concern about Health and Safety - all the staff wore masks and the resort was spotless. We used the gym every day - which was spacious and well equipped. We ate at the Blue Tavern and Isala - both delicious. Kostas asked us when we were leaving to say one thing that could be improved - I still can’t think of one! Sorry. Thank you all again.
What a treat!
This was our second summer in a row to spend three weeks at this amazing place. Oh my, what a privilege and what a treat it's been. And so needed too in light of everything that's been going on at these weird covid times worldwide. We arrived to Heraklion from London and were picked up by a very executive looking and extremely comfortable airport transfer mini-bus. The concierge organised that a cold meal awaits us in our suite on arrival, which was a great idea. We couldn't wait to jump in the private pool of our suite as soon as we arrived even though it was already 10pm by that time. We were so pleased that we were allocated the same Milos suite (no. 701) as last year - we absolutely loved it! This suite is spacious, with two bathrooms, one lounge, lovely patio area and a reasonably large private pool. We loved the nice, crisp cotton bedding that was being changed every day for us by the lovely and friendly chambermaids. Throughout our holiday, the staff at the Blue Palace were so friendly and helpful in every possible way. We found Babis always ready to help and deal with any queries and arrangements, we enjoyed the company of friendly Kostas and lovely Maria from the kidsclub who is very reliable and good with kids - our daughter enjoyed the arts and crafts with her. Then this year we got to meet Pantelis for the first time and he was always ready to help out with any queries. We mustn't forget to give special mention to the Chefs at the resort, who made an amazing effort for us and made some impressive gluten-free meals and desserts in order to cater for our special dietary needs. We simply couldn't thank them enough as it took all the weight and worry off our shoulders, since at home we do all the cooking from scratch every day and it can be quite time-consuming. But at Blue Palace, we could just relax and let the very experienced Chefs take good care of us. It was such a treat for us. Oh, must make a special mention of George and Lydia at the Watersports Centre. They were awesome and got so many different "toys" out for us all to enjoy. One moment our daughter was being pulled by George in the speedboat whilst on a floating "doughnut", next we were all being pulled whilst on a floating "sofa", then we did some jet-skiing, paddleboarding, pedalo and then we were all trying some waterskiing. We were never bored for sure! Our daughter (11) learnt to waterski with George's help in no time and we even managed to waterski as a trio, simultaneously, which will forever remain such a beautiful family memory for us. It's worth going on YouTube to see George doing some incredible barefoot waterskiing, if you type in "Barefoot Waterskiing Elounda". Restaurant-wise, we really enjoyed the Isola restaurant, as it's right by the beach and the pool, with lovely views of Spinalonga and the bay and the menu is quite versatile and the food is very tasty. Also, we enjoyed the Blue Door taverna, which is also by the beach, a bit further along than Isola. Their meze starter alone is so yummy, but all the traditional dishes are just great. We celebrated a dear friend's birthday here over the course of an afternoon and it was a very memorable event with a lovely atmosphere, great service throughout and spectacular traditional Greek music ensemble with beautiful dancing. During our three weeks stay, we used the laundry services and must say compliment them for paying attention to detail and reading all the labels on each garment as to how best to clean them. They arrived back ironed and on hangers, ready to go back to the wardrobes. The sunloungers on the beach and by the pools were being regularly cleaned by the staff after other guests' use. There were bikes available outside the reception area to rent for free, which is a nice idea as an activity and an opportunity to absorb some more of the spectacular views from a slightly different angle, from the hill above Plaka. We also went on a couple of excursions organised by the hotel for us with an excellent local guide who was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed it very much. We enjoyed some lovely massages at the Blue Palace too, as they were super relaxing. All in all, this holiday was pure luxury and we felt spoilt rotten. The staff looked well after us in every possible way. We admired how much thought went into everything in order to try and keep everyone safe throughout - both guests and local staff. We wish to thank everyone for such a concerted effort to make our stay so special and so worry-free.
One week of pure heaven with our two 15 year olds. The service was outstanding from the minute we arrived, our needs met with smiling eyes (all staff members wore masks even on the beach). The entire hotel was immaculately clean and very well equipped for the COVID challenges. Hand sanitizer everywhere, guests required to wear masks when moving through communal areas. Our room, one without a pool, had spectacular views of Spinalonga. WiFi was speedy and excellent, reliable signal throughout our stay, even on the beach! Water sports centre for our teenagers to enjoy with a pontoon for diving into the crystal clear ocean. Staff were extremely professional at the centre. We enjoyed a variety of food at all of the restaurants. Our favourite was Anthos, although each one was special and the service faultless! An easy 5 stars. We will definitely return.
