Relaxing winter holiday
Dassia was a great area to explore. We thoroughly enjoyed wandering down into the small village. We independently organized both cycling trips (GEO Bicycling and More, Dassia) and horseriding (Trailriders Horse Trekking in Gouvia) and had a great fun time doing both. Both times we were collected from the hotel and returned making the whole thing very simple for us. Corfu town is a lovely place to have a wander and enjoy the ambiance. It has a lot of history in its cobbled streets. We booked up a speedboat shuttle from the hotel which was a lot of fun but also just walked down to the bus stop and caught a bus there on another occasion which was also easy to do (bus tickets can be purchased form the little shop at the resort). Corfu itself is very hilly, and it’s a great place to keep fit and active. Our room was a bungalow in the grounds of the hotel. We found it very comfortable. Yes it was a little tired in places and they could have taken some time to plant up the containers on the balcony to make it more enjoyable, but overall we were happy. In particular the bed was huge and very comfortable which is so important on a holiday. I really can’t fault the food at all. All the restaurants were wonderful and even the buffet was really scrumptious. Normally I wouldn’t touch a buffet but honestly the salad buffet was so good I could have eaten there every day. Everything was very fresh and beautifully presented. It was very handy being able to book the restaurants up before we even arrived. The only thing I would do differently was to have alternative days in the restaurants and give myself a break from the 4 courses every other night. We are not big drinkers but had some particularly lovely wines at the hotel and a few cocktails. We thought the Chocolatier was a fabulous addition and was a lovely treat at the end of the day. The resort sits in a little bay that spills down the hill towards the water. It is very picturesque. The hotel had lots of included amenities which made the holiday really relaxing. The area by the beach under the shade of the olive and date palms was very restful and we found there was always a sunbed available. The yoga on the beach was really enjoyable too. There are lots of trips to book up if you are inclined and I would highly recommend going off resort and booking some activities in the area. The part of the hotel which let it down was the indoor pool. It was very tired and a bit grimy and not enjoyable at all. Luckily with the weather in October hitting a balmy 28 degrees the indoor pool wasn’t needed. The service really was exceptional and made the holiday a very enjoyable experience. The ladies in reception and all the restaurant staff went out of their way to make our trip enjoyable. They even presented my husband with a birthday cake after dinner one evening which was very touching. This was a very relaxing holiday. Almost 5 stars if the room and indoor areas had been a little less tired.. I am told that in July and August it is full of kids which we personally would not have liked, but in October it seemed perfect to us.
Relaxing April week
We are a middle-aged couple and spent a relaxing week in Grecotel Daphnila Bay Dassia in April 2019. We have been traveling quite a lot but this was our first time in Greece. We were aware that the weather would not be anything like in summer time so we did not expect temperatures over +20 degrees, warm sea water and warm outdoor pool. We were delighted of the cozy atmosphere of the hotel. The room was a little dodgy but we didn't spend a lot of time there during the day. We spent our days playing tennis (excellent tennis courts and equipment is provided), attending yoga and stretching classes, hiking nearby, swimming in pool and in the sea (not too cold for people from Scandinavia), kayaking and resting on the beach. We liked the food in all the restaurants (good selection of them). The wines were excellent! Also cocktails were great. We enjoyed amazing chocolates from the chocolate bar and also had pancakes and ice-cream on the beach couple of times. It was easy to take a local bus to Corfu town. We think the experience was much better you would expect with that price. We will be back :)
A great sign of things to come
We have a reservation in May 2020 to celebrate my birthday and a friends wedding anniversary with our families. I have contacted the hotel direct with some queries and have had the most wonderful customer service from Evanthia, efficient, professional and friendly. As a long term member and avid contributor I have read many reviews on this site some of which pushed me to contact the hotel ahead of our reservation, all said how amazing the customer service is, well before arriving I am really impressed. Working in hospitality myself I am aware that often staff get overlooked for their contributions to the success of a hotel so I wanted to post with my gratitude. I am sure we enjoy the stay and will post upon our return. Thank you Evanthia.
Poor hotel poor service
Once settled in we soon found out there were not nearly enough beds around the pool, far too many children running around. The room was on a hill and was dark and smelled of damp. As we passed other rooms on our way to the room we observed towels on the floor under doors, which we though was to keep out critters of the rooms are empty as there were large gaps under the door. We had 2 days of real torrential rain, the water was flowing down the hill in the drains with such ferocity that the drains lifted and sewage spewed over the paths and down to the rooms, with the smell was overpowering. On complaining to reception about the health hazards involved we were told that it would be sorted, then we were told that it wasn't sewage it was something else, now I've worked on sewage equipment and I know what raw sewage and toilet paper and other goodies look like, so it turns out the towels were to stop water and other liquid nasties from getting into the rooms. There was water pouring into the foyer and the lovely small jewellers was flooded out. Booking meals of an evening is done on the hotel app. The only one we attended was the hot stone restaurant but it turned out to be a sizzling lump of gristley fat, yet again not impressed. We eventually left the hotel for a few days to stay in small boutique hotels which we found to be far more accommodating in the centre of the old town. We even checked out a day early to stay in the Durrels suites in the old town which was beautiful.
a nearly perfect family holiday
We had a fantastic family holiday this august 2019 and have booked the hotel again for the summer 2020! My rating of the hotel is 4 (and a half) stars only mainly because of - lack of shade around the pool during the morning and parts of the afternoon, - not enough sun loungers or chairs around the pool, - not enough vegetarian dishes, - poor environmental impact. I would wish for improvements in these areas for next year! Our favourite spot was at the beach with the cooling breeze and the lovely sea. As there is only natural shade from the trees and if guests want to avoid the sun at all, one needs to move the sun beds around ever so often as the sun gets through the trees, especially in the afternoon. As the kids enjoyed swimming in the pool, the supervising adult had to stand next to the pool in plain sun as there were hardly ever free sun loungers and even less parasols. Only late afternoon, there would be shade and space. Surely, there must be a solution to that?! The non vegetarians in our party were happy with the food. Commenting as a vegetarian myself, the food was ok but not special, especially given the variety of greek vegetarian dishes! There was always a vegetarian soup and lots of salads and mezze, but regarding hot, main dishes choices were poor. Even with the salads one had to look carefully as some contained ham or the like; the same goes for side vegetables; sometimes presented on the same plate as the grilled meat. We tried the asian restaurant, lovely location but not recommended due to hardly any vegetarian choices and too many wasps (the asian drinks were great though!); the greek restaurant was lovely and catered for vegetarians (lunch was a la carte, dinner came as a collection of many dishes); il gattopardo had a set menu only which didn't appeal to me as vegetarian. All inclusive drinks were superb throughout! Regarding the environment, we didn't understand why the towels in the room had to be changed daily, and why the cutlery from the creperie had to be plastic - wrapped in plastic! As there was hardly any control on beach towels, one could get several and just leave them behind on the lounger, blocking it from being used by another guest and increasing the amount of laundry. The kids enjoyed the kids club grecoland but one has to ask around to find out about it. There are two locations, the old one next to the shallow pool which offers nursery style entertainment with sign in and out and lots of arts and crafts; and the new one on the beach that offers darts and boccia and art and kids would go in and out frequently. Both operate at the same times, 10-12 and 16-18 hours. Mainly younger kids (6 years and less) would attend the kids club, and there was not much to do if you are older and not interested in drawing or playing UNO – only waterpolo and football. The programme as advertised on the hotel's app (eg „aroma therapy“) was not offered. The hotel has no big board presenting the daily sports or kids programme, so guests have to ask around or use the app, but the app is not accurate and some items are not listed, eg chess at 3pm or kids' parties after the mini-disco. We booked a sea view room and one room single with kid. The single with kid felt inferior, with no desk, no sofa, no standing lamp, no drying rope and one very poor mattress. In general, the rooms would benefit from more power sockets. The walk between the hotel and beach was manageable but strenuous in the heat and humidity. A brisk 2 minutes up hill or 5 minutes leisurely. Last but not least, staff and service were excellent!!
