Domes Miramare, A Luxury Collection Resort, Corfu

An elegant retreat with a royal history

Style, exquisite service and unique experiences combine at this Corfiot waterfront haven.

When a hotel once belonged to the Onassis family – and has long been the Corfu hotel of choice for royalty and the A-list – you know it’s going to exude sophistication. But there’s no need to worry that it’s stuck in a 1960s time warp; the resort has been thoughtfully redefined and is well worthy of 21st-century travellers. Clean lines, infinity pools and neutral hues accented by splashes of greenery and the blues of the Ionian Sea set the tone in this romantic, child-free environment. Days at Domes Miramare can range from lounging on the 600-metre long beach, stepping into the sea every now and again to cool off, to exploring the island on an arranged tour. The concierge team are on hand to organise your adventures, which could include a meal amid the vines of a hillside winery, a tour of an olive grove and mill, a mixology lesson or a trip out on the resort’s own speedboat, the Miramaretta.

Why we love Domes Miramare, A Luxury Collection Resort, Corfu

  • It’s a romantic, adult-only haven with an excellent spa and a well-curated list of cultural activities.

  • It sits right on the beach, with waterfront pavilions and villas literally steps from the sea.

  • The dining scene is excellent, with a restaurant headed up Michelin-starred chef Petros Dimas and multiple bars, including the illustrious Blu Bar, formerly a favourite of the Greek King.

  • Several of the suites and pavilions have their own Jacuzzis in the gardens, and some add in private pools.

The dining scene at Domes Miramare is nothing short of legendary. From the aristocratic legacy of Blu Bar – where the former King of Greece used to host visiting dignitaries – to Michelin-starred chef creations at Makris, food and drink is taken seriously here. Seven bars and restaurants offer everything from Mediterranean and Greek to sushi and salads, and DJ decks at the bars add a dose of contemporary cool.

Makris
With creations devised by Michelin-starred chef Petros Dimas, this award-winning restaurant serves innovative dishes using local ingredients against a backdrop of pastel-blue sea.

Korypho
The resort’s main restaurant, Korypho specialises in bountiful breakfasts and contemporary Greek cuisine, plus seasonal tasting menus and an impressive wine list.

Raw Bar
Fresh sushi and creative cocktails are the central focus here, with chilled lounge music by the resident DJ and panoramic ocean views.

Blu Bar
A long-time party spot for royalty and the A-list, this legendary bar serves premium spirits, wines and cocktails with live piano music and a stylish blue backdrop.

Nobilis Bar
Located in the Panoramic Wing, this serves tailor-made drinks with stunning sea views and local artworks for added atmosphere.

Verde Pool Bar
Sip a barista-made coffee or cocktail and pick up a sandwich to go at this casual bar, set between the pool and beach and open throughout the day.

Pool Bar
A DJ set and scenic poolside setting make this bar a popular daytime hangout, with refreshing cocktails and light snacks on hand if you’re feeling peckish.

The food at Makris is divine, while Blu Bar takes the crown for its A-list legacy.

Inspired by ancient Greek therapies, the spa uses local ingredients from the island with a menu of massages, scrubs and medi-spa facials. There are four treatment rooms and a big indoor pool area, with calming marble interiors designed to resemble an ancient Greek bath. There’s an indoor gym with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the scenery, plus an outdoor version surrounded by tropical flora. Yoga, Pilates, core training and other classes are also available.

The resort has curated a collection of local cultural activities, from wine-tasting to a walking tour of Corfu’s Old Town and a farm-to-table dining experience. It also has its own art gallery and deli, the Makris Market.

Miramare’s private beach hosts a variety of watersports, from wakeboarding to stand-up paddleboarding and glass-bottom canoeing. Regular sailing trips are also available on the Miramaretta – the resort’s private yacht.

The resort is Travelife certified and has implemented a number of sustainability initiatives. Eco-conscious efforts include low-energy LED lamps, glass use instead of plastic bottles, water reuse for the gardens, a food waste management programme, CO2 monitoring, clean beach initiatives and training staff around eco practices.

To learn about the environment, the Kiepos garden offers children the chance to grow their own greens, herbs and flowers. The resort also supports communities by employing local people, using local produce, promoting epicurean experiences at nearby restaurants and showcasing the work of local artisans and educating guests.

Guests over 16 are welcome at this hotel.

Minimum stay: 3 nights.

Pre-booking is required for all Dine Around meals.
