I just visited the Outrigger for the second time - the first was 10 years ago - and it is still paradise. Because I was a returning guest I was greeted in my room with such a lovely welcome card and a beautiful box of chocolates and other treats. The setting is divine - the gardens are exquisite and the facilities are all beautifully open aired with grass/pandanus roofs. Without exception the staff were warm, friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about Fiji (and very patient with all our questions about Fiji). It was absolutely wonderful to see Aliti again, who works in Vale ni kana and who made our first trip so wonderful. We organised for the Outrigger mini bus to pick us up from the airport and drive us back. It is quite expensive but the driver was such a kind and warm person. He spent each trip answering a myriad of questions. The Art Cart on the 7th floor of the main building is well worth visiting. I took a tapa cloth class and a pandanus craft class and loved them. Each class is $FJD25-35. Tessa, who taught the class we so kind and the experience was so relaxing. We bought the full meal plan and it was such a luxury to then eat what we wanted. The food is wonderful and the selection, particularly in the buffets, was huge. I can only hope that the staff are able to take all the leftover food home - it would be awful if such wonderful food was wasted. We went on the village tour and that was also so informative. I felt a little uncomfortable that the people in the village worked so hard to entertain the guest. Uncle Timothy provided so much interesting information and everyone we met was so warm. The cultural shows are wonderful. The rooms are so comfortable. I think we must have been upgraded because my stepmother and I each had wonderful views of the sea, from the Lagoon wing, and the Talai butlers visited each afternoon at 5 with a drink and canapes - such a luxurious way to wake up from an afternoon nap. The bed was so comfortable and the rooms are spacious and elegantly decorated. It was so wonderful to see Fijian art and handicrafts throughout the site. I found at from someone outside Outrigger that staff are only paid $5- $6.50 an hour. I wanted to be able to tip so many more people but had really underbudgetted for the trip and didn't have enough small change. I found out during the stay that the reception staff can change currency (which is much better than using the ATM, which costs $FJD15 to use). The reef walk was so interesting and Kiti was patient with our slowness. The family pool is now open all night and it was absolute heaven to be able to swim once the sun had gone done - I often had the huge pool almost to myself. February turned out to be a wonderful time of year to visit. It is a quieter time for staff so they had more time to talk with us. From March to December staff generally work 6 days a week, which must be exhausting. The constant sea breezes were heavenly and I didn't see a mosquito the whole trip. We had almost no rain (which disappointed me). Several people outside the Outrigger commented that the weather has really changed in that area, as a result of climate change. There is now less rain and the hurricanes have moved away from the area. The hotel provides a coin laundry, a drying rack in each room and a washing line over the bath. Wifi is free for Discovery members and it is free to join. The hotel offers buggys to drive people around the site and to deliver luggage. Overall I couldn't recommend the Outrigger more highly.
Complete and utter luxury
Wonderful time spent here, everything you need. Trip to town or farther afield is worth doing. We were retracing our footsteps, having sailed to Fiji in 2000. Outrigger is a little isolated and you are pretty much out on a limb. Hiring a car would allow you to explore.
Exceptional Customer Service
Outrigger Beach Resort Customer Service staff really took good care of my family, no difference if service for Tourists and Locals. Thanks Mr Darren Shaw (GM)and Gerald Sharma (Reservations Manager) for meeting and exceeding my family expectations.
Best experience so far
Beautiful resort! Loved our stay here for brothers wedding and holiday at the same time.. Staff are awesome cater to your every needs. Rooms were clean and housekeepers would come in everyday when you are out and clean. Sundowner restaurant food was so good. Don’t need to leave resort as it has everything here. Buffet Tuesday night wasn’t so good, we arrived after 8pm due to family memebers arriving late from flights and food was not good, not worth $77 and missed entertainment. Carts are so useful for the older lot and ones that got sore feet from walking up and down due to resort being so big. Miss the Bula and Vinaka very where you walked. Will def stay here next time in fiji, Vinaka!.
Family friendly and very relaxing
Family of 4 with 2 primary school aged children. Lots of relaxation, incredible breakfast buffets, exceptional staff, and despite a lot of overcast and rainy days, still lots of activities on offer. The optional village tour is highly recommended, as is an ocean view room on the top floor. Truly fabulous to sit out on the balcony in the relaxing chairs reading a book and enjoying a champagne delivered by the always personable talai butlers! Don't expect 5 star rooms, but the bathroom was modern, the beds comfortable and good airconditioning. TV wasn't great, but we had books and the kids had IPADs so we were fine. Food is the same price as Australia so don't go expecting to save money, like you can in Thailand / Bali etc. Fiji is an island so everything either has to be farmed locally or freighted in. Thank you for a memorable and relaxing holiday!
