More than we expected
We spent one night at this hotel while on a guided tour of Luxor. As it was not a hotel that I had researched, I was very apprehensive as our van pulled up to the hotel. (Nothing much to look at from the street.... which is itself nothing to inspire confidence.) As soon as you walk in however, your brain sort of "resets".... This is a VERY nice hotel. The lobby folds out onto an outdoor atrium, which itself folds onto a second building housing a number of restaurants and the majority of the rooms. (And THAT building opens out onto the hotel pools, and a very nice 2 level bar overlooking the Nile river. Our room (a river view) was large, airy, and modern, with a very comfortable king bed. (Perfect place to wake up in the morning and watch the hot air balloons floating over the river and Nile valley). We ate at the Lebanese restaurant in the hotel (EXCELLENT) and were impressed with the selection and quality of the breakfast buffet the next morning. My only regret is that we were not staying a couple days longer, to enjoy both the hotel, and the city with all it had to offer.
We were lucky to get a room with a balcony facing the Nile - so relaxing. The hotel is close to the bazaar and the Luxor temple. You can take a long walk or cab it. Their breakfast was excellent. The have a couple of restaurants on site. Do not choose the Lebanese restaurant. The food was dried out and lousy. Although they had evening entertainment in the courtyard, it was unprofessional with the dancers constantly talking and cackling to each other., The whirling dervish, so to speak, was excellent. The hotel also has a few shops but beware of the prices. You can do better in the bazaar.
I had an exceptional stay at the Steigenberger Hotel in Luxor. The staff are gracious, generous with their time and professional. The hotel has a sophisticated charm of old world elegance, modern amenities and European renovations. I especially liked the food of the various on-site restaurants and I was happy to begin each day with the variety of healthy and delicious offerings at breakfast. We experienced a significant sandstorm one afternoon and into the evening that stopped all activities by the pool overlooking the Nile and in the courtyard between the buildings. The staff had everything cleaned up by noon the following day.
it was a business trip
