Could be so much better
I really struggled with this hotel. I love colonial buildings but this place is clearly past its prime and still trying to cater to an audience that doesn’t exist in Luxor anymore. Positives: Staff very friendly and obliging Large room with comfortable bed Affordable at 80$/night inc breakfast Negatives - rooms really in need of refurbishment - shower pressure terrible and pokey bathroom - WiFi connectivity terrible - food quality average - room cleaning service didn’t leave me any new water bottles - tried ordering a milkshake by the pool and it was unavailable even though they had ice cream on the menu There is a stuffy restaurant and a stuffy bar that require formal attire to enter. In the evenings outside of that there was one buffet style restaurant. The pool side restaurant closes at 5, the front terrace was empty of both customers and staff when I tried to have something there around 6. I would suggest hotel management really think about their current audience and whether they need to have two empty spaces in their hotel catering to people from the 50s who want to wear ties and jackets in 35 degree weather, instead of keeping the poolside restaurant open. I would have spent a lot more money on drinks and food if I could have relaxed in my shorts by the pool. If this hotel was over 100$ a night I wouldn’t even give it 3 stars. All in all, stay here but outside of the room and breakfast there is nothing to spend your time or money on inside.
DO NOT EVEN THINK OF STAYING HERE IT WAS HORRIBLE
Once a beautiful palace that was stripped from all its grandeur due to lack of Maintinance and horrible horrible sad negligence. The employee explained that it is a heritage site that can’t be updated which is a lie as o have seen poor updates to the lightenings and speakers ( that are not used by the way) The room carpet smells moldy and is black with time. Unfortunately I couldn’t post more than 10 pictures or else you would have see. The extent of negligence. The lightening I. The lobby was off apparently they want to save on electricity. This once a beautiful palace , now a sad dump is not worth the name of Sofitel and is of NO comparison to the beautiful elegant well maintained 5 star Sofitel Old Cataract in Aswan. I would rate this place below one star if possible.
Luxury hotel by the Nile
The hotel is of the old type, full of character and class set in a large garden with a pool to the rear. The hotel looks over the Nile and you have a balcony you can sit on and watch the sun go down and the cruise ships go by. Its very relaxing here.
Old School Elegance with Modern Comfort
Just returned from a trip to Luxor and this hotel is the only place I would consider staying in Luxor. This hotel is a 2 minute walk to the Luxor Temple and across the street from the Nile River Promenade. This place has managed to keep all it's old world historic charm yet incorporated modern convenience such as outstanding air conditioning and good hot water. The staff and service were amazing! We ordered room service multiple times. The food arrived promptly, was excellent and at a very fair price. Breakfast which was included in the room price was also amazing, great selection of both hot and cold items. Most important was that the security was top notch and I felt comfortable at night walking around the beautiful grounds. The only thing I could have wished for was it would have been nice if the pool was open later hours. It is quite nice in the evening and still warm enough for the dip in the pool, but the pool closed 6:00 which was a bit even before sunset. Cannot recommend enough!
This hotel definitely has old world charm. We stayed two nights in luxury Nile room. The room was nice and large and the balcony overlooking the Nile was nice in the evening. The pool was really great and the food at the pool was fantastic! I recommend leaving the hotel through the back to avoid the annoying touts in the front of the hotel. I was really looking forward to the bar at the hotel but it was closed during our stay they were shooting a movie.
