A cut short stay
We had one of our thrice-yearly stays in February and were booked there for 4 weeks, so obviously we like the place. As normal, we flit between here and the Winter Palace. Being February, we never had the air-con on at all. Being nominally on a low-carb regime breakfast was often eggs in their various freshly made forms, but interspersed at times with the local Foules Medames, Fiteer (Low Carb??? - NOT) and Felafel, that were amongst the more international buffet items. The wifi is the only thing I could criticise, but it's not just the hotel. The Egyptian ISP service is not fast in the first place, the hotel having recently been upgraded to the max 5mbps speed (I have 100 at home) But:- A - It's FREE (I'm Scottish) B - It's available all over, not just in reception areas, although if you are on the far edges of the pool area it could be described as patchy. We had to leave 11 days early due to Turkish Airlines and Egyptair stopping flights and only escaped because of the help from the hotel management.
What a beutiful place on earth!! 2 Hotels!!
My wife Simona fell in love with the hotel, the garden, the bar, the cosy large lounge. We enjoyed very good food in the French Restaurant, in the International R., the Breakfast-Room, and near the pool, we had a good Barbeque in the IMPRESSING park in the evening. 12 gardeners keep this 140 year old "garden". ALL THE STAFF was very polite. The rooms were clean. Which was difficult after a (rare, twice a year) sandstorm on Thursday (our balcony was powdered). Attention = there are two hotels, Nil-front is Winter Palace, and 50 m to the left is an entry for Winter Palace Pavillon, in the Park to the left. All Guests share the lot.
Beautiful Gardens, Classic Frontage
Another classic Nile hotel from "Death on the Nile" fame. The gardens and eating lunch a fresco was magnificent with very good food buffet. The rooms are modern and updated as well as very comfortable with high ceilings and large windows. The AC seemed to be stressed to keep cool from the afternoon sun and this is Feb? The lobby was classic and wide halls and grand stair case encourage skipping the elevator.
Peaceful oasis in Luxor
The moment you step into the garden area from the busy and noisy streets in Luxor, you breathe easier. The fragrant trees, the flowers and the tranquil setting are ever so nice after running the gauntlet of harrassing vendors. The room decor is dated, as in most of Egypt. We had a spacious suite with two balconies, but poor use of space with uninviting furniture and lack of decor. Shower is the typical curtain in front of a narrow bathtub (which had poor drainage). Service was friendly, pool setting in the garden was lovely, and lunch by the pool was ok a d reasonably priced. My biggest issue was the price for the breakfast buffet - not worth 250 EGP per person. Most other hotels charge 150 EGP, which would be more appropriate.
Amazing breakfast by the garden; rooms are jaded; not modern enough for enough charging points
This property shares the garden with Winter Palace (Sofitel) and apparently that is the place where the VIPs stay whereas the Winter Pavillion is the building block with much more hotel rooms. Food menu didnt have Egyptian items if my memory still serves me. It was very French and American. Foyer carpet and sitting area was old and jaded. the sofa upholstery seemed torn - we stayed at 4th floor Rooms were nice and spacious - lovely chair and teapoy in the balcony. Luxor cools down around sunset so it can be good to sit in the balcony. However, the charging point was only 1 and it was not tight enough. We had to ask room service to get a holder. It had no other point..for example if one wanted to work on a laptop..of course i understand its only for leisure..still if you are 5 star, one needs to be abreast. Breakfast spread very good - Make fresh pancakes upon order (unlike other expensive places we stayed at in Engypt bcoz of which pancakes r rubbery)!!!...Garden setting for breakfast makes you feel rich!!! I had some very nice tea....their service is very good ...they actually encouraged me to try the garden setting..but only issue are the flies!!...but thats more because of the garden and food
