Uncover the pristine landscapes of the Galapagos aboard the Yacht La Pinta.
Demonstrating how flexible these destinations are and how easy it is to tailor make your holiday, this itinerary is similar to Highlights of Ecuador & Galapagos, but includes a cruise aboard the yacht La Pinta, rather than the MV Santa Cruz II, a two-night stay at the beautiful Hacienda Zuleta near Otavalo, and luxurious Casa Gangotena in Quito.
Days 1-2: Quito
On arrival transfer to your hotel for two nights. The next morning in Ecuador is spent on an introductory tour of Quito – the world’s first city to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Later, travel north out of the city to the Equatorial Monument. Visit the Ethnographic Museum inside the monument and learn about Ecuador’s various Native American groups. B.
Days 3-4: Quito to Otavalo
Leave the city on a full-day excursion and travel north through mountain scenery to the market town of Otavalo (approx. 2 hours), renowned for its handicrafts and hand-woven textiles. Here, you’ll find yourself in the beautiful and enchanting surrounds of Hacienda Zuleta, a working farm whose hacienda dates back to the 17th century. Opt to take a ride on horseback up to the fascinating Andean Condor program. B, L, D.
Days 5-6: Otavalo to Quito
Head to Quito for a further two nights, staying in the historic Casa Gangotena Hotel in Plaza San Francisco. The following day enjoy a full day trip to Cotopaxi National Park where you will see the snow-capped Cotopaxi Volcano and spend time exploring the park. B, L, D.
Days 7-8: Quito to Mashpi
Travel deep into the cloud forests of the Andean Highlands for a two night stay at Mashpi Lodge. B, L, D.
Day 9: Mashpi to Quito
Journey back to Quito and transfer to your hotel for one more night.
Days 10-13: Quito to the Galapagos
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos Islands. On arrival, board the
yacht La Pinta – your home for the next four nights. B, L, D.
Day 14: The Galapagos to Guayaquil
Disembark and transfer to the airport for your flight to Guayaquil for a one night stay. B.
Day 15: Guayaquil
Transfer to the airport for your onward flight. B.
Good to know
A level of fitness is required for walks and wet landings.
Tipping – Please budget to pay an additional $25 per passenger per day in tips (approximately) for ship’s crew and expedition guides at the end of your cruise, plus $15 per cruise for bar staff. Tipping is entirely discretionary and only payable upon a satisfactory experience.
