Wish I had more time- one of my best life experiences
Stayed here for 2 nights, but wish it had been 4 nights. I know it is pricy, but it was worth every penny. If you can, spend the extra money to stay at least 3 nights. It was a wondrous, gorgeous stay that I will never forget. From the welcome drink and snacks to the last moment our luggage was put in our car to leave, every moment at Mashpi was one to remember! The rooms were perfect in every way, with delicious local fresh fruit for us to snack on as well as truffles with turndown service in the evening. Our guide Gabriel was the best guide I’ve had anywhere. He was full of energy, kind, and full of information. Another guide on our night walk was also amazing at finding frogs. His name was Nixon. The hardest part was trying to figure out what to do as a group. I’m afraid of heights so the sky bike was a bit terrifying and I passed on the Dragonfly. The hikes were great. Beautiful waterfalls and so much nature watching at the nature center. I could have spent the entire day just watching wildlife at the nature center. Don’t miss the hummingbirds! We did a 6 am slot here and had breakfast while watching the hoards (and I’m not exaggerating) of hummingbirds! They were buzzing around my head in all their unreal beauty! Now, let’s talk about the food. Oh my! It was simply fabulous! Some of the best meals I’ve had. They even made me hot chocolate with non dairy milk which was hands down the best hot chocolate I’ve had which isn’t hard to believe since Ecuador produces such delicious chocolate. I’m salivating just thinking about my meals there. If you are considering visiting Mashpi, book it. Don’t delay.
They just care about your money, bad client experience !!!
In Feb 2020, we booked some rooms for this summer 2020. Due to COVID event and as there is no flight from France into Ecuador, we asked them to postpone our reservation to summer 2021, and they don't want to hear about it or pretend not to understand our request, and their Sales representative keeps writing us everything is under control and there is no reason for us not to come....FYI, we booked several hotels for a travel into Ecuador and Peru and they all offer to push our reservations to 2021 except Mashpi...I thought I booked at a Luxury Hotel with all relevant services... but this is not the case, quite a deceitful client experience, Avoid them
A Must Do, No Regrets
Let’s me start by simply saying, “understated luxury”. My husband and I have recently returned from a trip to the Ecuador. During our time here, we had 2 nights at Mashpi Lodge and we wish we could have stayed longer. Location : Mashpi Lodge is located about 3 hours from Quito downtown. We chose to stay at the Swissotel Hotel the night before for our pick up, which was great. To get to Mashpi, part of the trip is on a winding road and towards the end of the journey for maybe 60 minutes, it is very bumpy. If you get motion sickness, I would highly recommend that you sit in the front with the driver. The lodge is located in the Cloud Forest, so as you would expect, it is quite wet. There is nothing much else around, so your your time is spent at the lodge enjoying the surrounds and the activities. Accommodation : We were in Room 2 which I believe is one of the Wayra Rooms. It was a lovely room, with nothing to complain about. Simple, elegant and the view does the talking. The amenities were lovely and it is all the subtle touches that make the accommodation (and the rest of the property) amazing. When we checked into our room, there was a lovely fruit platter waiting for us, two water bottles with our names on them and a two day packs with Mashpi Lodge written on them. The bathroom products were of high quality and there is a humidifier to help with all the moisture in the lodge. Even a night when we would come back from dinner, our bed was turned down and our slippers placed nicely next to the bed. It’s little and simple touches. I am also sure that they provide a laundry and drying service. We chose to sleep with our blinds up, so that we could take in the view of the forest 24-7. It’s not every day you can wake up in a Cloud Forest. Food and Staff : The meals were amazing. The produce was fresh, interesting, creative and local to the area. We both loved it. The only problem was, that we couldn’t resist and both ate way too much. Every single staff member was so helpful. From the person who met us on arrival, the dining room staff, the activities co-ordinator and their team, housekeeping, reception etc. etc. Everyone. And this also includes the amazing help from Marc, the General Manager to get us out of the lodge in time because of the COVID-19 lockdown. Activities : There are lots of activities for you to choose from. You can do as much as you want, or as little as you want. We managed to do a number of things in our short stay. We visited the Science Lab, the main centre to see birds, orchids and butterflies, the Dragon Fly with a hike in the middle and the Sky Bike. There is an activities board that you can view, as well as discuss with team what you are interested in and what they can recommend for you. The lodge provides boots, walking sticks and rain jackets. I think there is one thing to note of importance, regardless of what activity you choose, there is some sort of walking involved. I thought I should mention this due to people’s different circumstances. Pricing : It is obvious that this is not a budget property, but a luxury property. And I truly believe, it is value. Amazing accommodation and staff, fantastic food, wonderful location an fabulous activities and your transfers to and from the lodge. Overall, the hotel way exceeded our expectations and I would not hesitate to recommend this property! A side note : We would like to thank Marc, the General Manager for assisting us with leaving the property early in the morning due to lockdown and providing us with his personal driver (for safety reasons) to take us from the lodge at 3.00am to get Quito airport for our early flight out. Thank you. Regards, Cherie Sydney, Australia
Beautiful unique lodge
I took my son , daughter-in-law & 3 grandchildren to the Galápagos Islands and here. We were here just as the pandemic was starting to explode. Their van picked us up at our hotel in Quito and it was about a 2 1/3-3 hour ride— bumpy street the end and a little windy if you get carsick. The design is breathtaking with all the windows and greenery. Food was good with lots of local specialties. Friendly and excellent service. Our rooms were comfortable and had fruit and sweets in the evening as well as water bottles and their insect repellant. As soon as we arrived, there was an informational session explaining the rooms and activites. We were given 2 guides who stayed with us for all the activities-Anderson and Jackie. They were both excellent, very caring and informative. Anderson has an outstanding camera and he put my phone’s camera up to its lense & I have some amazing pictures. They provide tall rubber boots and sturdy hiking sticks. It’s rainy and muddy so you definitely need their boots. Some of the walkways are narrow and you walk on crates that are buried in the mud. We enjoyed the learning center, the life center with the birds & butterflies and the sky bike. For me, the hummingbird garden was the most incredible part. I have only one suggestion that for me would have been helpful. We were given a map, and Anderson explained all the activities but having a more detailed description of what to expect, walking or riding, length , etc,& being able to refer to it would have helped me. Originally we were only going to stay for one night but changed it to two. I don’t think one night would be long enough but for us two was just right. Thank you to all there for making this a wonderful experience. We hope that you all are safe and healthy & that when this awful pandemic is over, other people can enjoy this wonderful place.
We added a 3 day stay at Mashpi prior to our Adventures by Disney Ecuador and Galapagos trip. It was fantastic! Being a family of hikers and adventurers it was perfect. Hikes to the waterfalls both during daylight and at night were awesome. Don't be afraid to get wet and muddy and you will have a ball. Tour guides were great as was the food and accommodations. Highly recommend.
