Beautiful Boutique hotel in center of Quito Historical district
Our stay at Casa Gangotena was wonderful- we stayed two nights but wish it could have been longer- so much to see and do in Quito. Our plane arrived close to midnight- by the time we got to the hotel it was around 1am. The front desk staff was there to greet us with a big smile and even offered us a special fresh fruit smoothie drink for us to enjoy while we were checked in. The drink was so good we asked for more- and when we got to our room- there was a knock on the door and a pitcher was brought with more of the drink! The hotel is a historical property family mansion which has been totally updated into a beautiful boutique hotel. The hotel was built on the San Francisco Plaza which is right in the center of the historical city center- you can walk everywhere from this location. The restaurant at the hotel is excellent – there was a great breakfast buffet with great fresh fruit juices- wonderful pastries and many savory choices. The lunch and dinner at the restaurant are also yummy- many choices to please. The room we had was spacious and the bathroom was so big and beautiful. Our room over looked the side street off the plaza- it was very quiet and comfortable. The hotel has a rooftop bar area which overlooks Quito- beautiful. The property has a peaceful courtyard in the center with beautiful gardens. Loved this hotel- the staff was so friendly. The hotel also offers free tours of the property and also to local Quito venues.
Exceptional service and great location
We have been traveling for 7 days in Peru and hiking in Machu Picchu when we arrived at Casa Gangotena. We were so happy when we arrived. The hotel is beautiful and our rooms were spacious and comfortable. Most importantly, we appreciate the service. Elizabeth is the most thoughtful and caring concierge that I have met. She even arranged to have all our dirty laundry washed and folded before we left for the Galápagos Islands. Thank you! The hotel also offers unique experiences or activities during our stay and I would highly recommended taking advantage of this offering. We enjoyed our private tour of the Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco and climbed the bell tour after hours to see the sunset. It is a unique experience as only hotel guests are allowed to climb the tower. The only disappointment was the service at the restaurant. The food was amazing. We enjoyed the tasting menu very much and highly recommend it. Unfortunately, our server was not attentive. She dropped utensils, got confused with our orders, brought one menu for 8 of us, etc. For breakfast, the server got our orders wrong and it took a long time (>15 mins) to get our simple over easy eggs and toasts. We had to cancel our order so as not to miss our tour. It is no big deal, but we expected a bit more, since all of the hotel staff have been so attentive and provided the highest level of service. Overall, I absolutely enjoyed my stay at the hotel and the exquisite service. Thank you Elizabeth for making our stay amazing.
First Class Experience
This was one of the best hotels I have ever experienced, from service, to rooms quality, amenities, and just overall experience, my wife and I felt quite pampered. Staff was friendly and helpful as well as completely professional.
Great hotel in the centre of Quito old town
Absolutely first class hotel. Very clean, quiet, the staff were all very attentive and helpful. Ideally situated on the square to explore the town. Food was of a good standard with wide variety. Rooms extremely comfortable. Cannot critisise anything.
Lovely and welcoming
Located in historic old part of the city, Casa Gangotena is the former residence of the Gangotena family originally from Spain. The mansion has 33 guest rooms, infused with a warm, elegant atmosphere. It began at arrival, when we were greeted with a hand-written note from the manager and this gracious hospitality continued throughout our two night stay. We had a view of the courtyard and San Francisco Square, which was lovely. We enjoyed the excellent location and great service. Food was fine, but as a vegetarian, I would have liked to have had some vegetable protein, which was definitely lacking. Given the existence of quinoa in thus area of the world, I was surprised not to find it on the menu. The only other criticism was the placement of outlets alongside the headboard, which were difficult to access.
