The Grand Hyatt really made our stay special in Dubai. We can totally recommend to stay here
The Grand Hyatt really made our stay special in Dubai. We can totally recommend to stay here. From our perspective the hotel is offering the best value for money. Really outstanding was the breakfast and dinner at the market place restaurant of the hotel: Breakfast: On the egg station you could choose from fried, boiled to scrambled or poached eggs. Fresh fruits like watermelon, pineapple, avocado and strawberry’s where available. For the sweet tongue you could choose the tasty and fresh made pancakes, waffles or crepes with different toppings. Additionally, you could choose between different warm options like dumplings, fried noodles, baked beans or falafel. Dinner: For dinner you had the same fresh fruits and tasty sweets. Additionally, you had Italian, Indian oriental dishes for choice. The pizza and Indian Curry was delicious. Next to food also drinks where included from white wine, red wine, beer to vodka or rum and soft drinks. The drink options where great, as alcohol is quite expensive in Dubai. Restaurant Service: The service was just out of this world!!! Friendly and happy waiters took care for your well-being. They created us a unique experience, as we received even a farewell cake at our last dinner and nice banana crepe on our last breakfast. Everyone was super nice and interested in making your stay great. Special Thanks goes to Rajeen as he is perfectly managing the restaurant and built up a great team around him. Very special thanks to Faiz and Mahmoud who are the best waiters in Dubai and created a smile on our face every day. Room Service: The room as spacious and comfortable and it was perfectly cleaned every day. Water bottles and fresh fruits where complementary. When we celebrated the birthday of my sister, we received a tasty chocolate cake. We could always call the room service in case we needed something additionally. Pool and Spa: the spa is splitted for women and men. It has different saunas, steam bath and jacuzzi. Next to this you have a great indoor and outdoor pool area. The pool service will put towels on the sundbeds and adjust the sunshade for you. BIG THANKS to Grand Hyatt Dubai!
There are better 5* hotels in Dubai
I am writing this review having just checked out of the Grand Hyatt on day 3 of a 6 day booking. That fact hopefully sets the context for what follows. For ease of reference I will bullet point my review: The Good Bits - Location - only 10 minutes drive from airport (in fact you can see the airport from the hotel) - also see next section though. - Expect to pay around only 40 Dirhams taxi fare from the airport - Bedroom is very spacious and clean and well appointed (including iron and ironing board and hairdryer) - Covid safeguards were good, with a requirement to wear masks in public areas and sanitiser freely available - Bedroom air conditioning is super effective - Breakfasts are extensive with a good selection - Great breakfast coffees and teas - Pool area was very nice with extremely attentive staff who were helpful in securing sun-beds with exceptionally good service and politeness - Free hotel WiFi works well in rooms and public areas, but slow and flakey around pool area - No VPN required to access any of the usual sites I visit - Free alcoholic drinks between 6pm-8pm in the Market Cafe with half-board option. The Not So Good Bits - Public areas are dated and fall short of usual contemporary standards of even some of the more established Dubai hotels - Creek view rooms are not worth the extra (you really cannot appreciate the creek, as you are far from it) - Half board meals are taken in the Market Café. Standard and variety of food are poor. Limited choice and repetitive. Mostly Indian and Arabian food with minimal effort to provide other cuisines. Token gesture Italian and International. - Market Cafe closes at 8pm sharp and you are politely but firmly asked to leave. Any unfinished drinks cannot be taken with you! - Although I didn’t try other restaurants during my stay the menus seemed quite extensive but very expensive. Disappointingly there is no allowance for half board guests to eat in the other restaurants, which personally I found very restrictive - The prices for drinks (soft and alcoholic) are extortionate. £10 GBP for a 330ml beer for example - Check-in was extremely slow (maybe a new staff member) - I experienced one member of staff during my visit (a server in the cafe) who had a very unfortunate attitude, and who personally I would offer remedial training or exit. I did think about complaining, but I really couldn’t be bothered with the undoubted hassle (I was on vacation after all). Otherwise staff were exemplary - Security staff were invisible, and I didn’t feel particularly safe on some occasions. I would have welcomed a little more presence, but I concede this is a personal preference - There is absolutely NOTHING to do in the evenings. A total lack of any sort of evening entertainment, a variety of bars to frequent, or activities to pursue. Everyone just seemed to disappear into their rooms at 8pm! - or sat in the public areas staring rather boringly. As the location of the hotel is way out of downtown Dubai, this is a MAJOR issue and a key reason for my checking out. Conclusion Overall an OK’ish stay in a hotel which suffers from the dated ambience of the cavernous public areas. Significantly let down by the quality and choice of the food in the Market Café, the dining restrictions and the lack of the evening socialising facilities or entertainment events you would typically expect on a resort hotel. This is only a 4* hotel by any standards, and, from an experienced traveller to UAE, you can expect far more from many hotels in Dubai. I would caution against staying so far out of downtown Dubai if you want any sense of social connection or night life. I would recommend you look around either downtown or, for beach lovers, the Jumeira brach or Palm areas. Finally, I accept that at the time of writing Covid restrictions MAY be responsible for some of my points of criticism, but now staying in downtown Dubai I find almost no restriction (aside from mask wearing), so I don’t think Covid offers much of a valid excuse to be honest. As usual, these observations are personal to me, and others may disagree, but I always strive to be helpful through a balanced review.
