Just perfect, stunning to look at, beautiful pools, spa and views. Food was excellent although a bit pricey but service was second to none. A true 5* hotel and suitable for people looking for a relaxing, quiet hotel with a special feel. There are a few restaurants within walking distance but the best ones are up in pissouri square which is a 5 mins drive. Highly recommend hiring a car if you want to get out and about. Only thing was the beach is a little disappointing, a bit dirty and not so pretty on the eye... better to get a sun bed on the grass lawn just behind the beach. Highly recommend this hotel!
A good choice in Cyprus
The hotel is located in a very pleasant bay with pebble beach. This is what sets this hotel apart from the other 5 star hotels on the island. The pool and communal areas were all to a high standard. Things did not room that smooth when I arrived without warning and so I took that into account. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because I did not feel the room was that. Although very comfortable and well appointed it does not match up to other SLH hotels I have stayed in. However I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Booked the hotel for my husbands 40th birthday and the staff went over and above to make our stay memorable. Amazing place and staff are equally amazing, making us feel like VIPs! Highly recommend this hotel.
Most luxurious resort
The resort can be picked out of tailand! So beautiful. We reserved through booking.com 5 nights. Enjoyed every minute. This is a resort u dont have to leave at all during your stay . We took only b&b so went out for dinner. The pool, beach and surroundings are wonderful
Needs to learn to go “the extra mile” to be a genuine 5 Star – short comings take the shine off.
The classic October Half Term dilemma. Not enough time for long haul in a week, and most European destinations are too risky on the weather. So this year, we decided to give Cyprus a try, given it’s strong October climate track record. Based on having good child care facilities we decided to give Columbia Beach Resort a go. The Good points: 1 Food. The quality of cooking in two restaurants, Cape Aspro and Bacchus was quite excellent. It really stood out with very high quality of food, really well cooked and presented. Service in these 2 restaurants was very strong led by very strong Greek Head Waitress (I can’t remember her name annoyingly) . Up there with top restaurant standards. Apollo Tavern was not in the same league but is a different proposition. It is a more informal dining experience and was good. 2 Atmosphere / Ambiance: The main original resort part of the hotel oozes class and has a lovely calmness about it. It is beautiful. The 2nd part of the resort – the former Columbia Beech Hotel is whilst not as pleasing to the eye from the inside is nice. 3 Room Quality. We were in the refurbished former Columbia Beech Hotel in room 1312 in an inland facing executive room for 2 adults and 2 under 8 children. The room was large. Well equipped. Modern – and had a partial sea view. Well maintained by housekeeping twice a day. 4 The kids club was excellent and made the stay wonderful for my 2 daughters. Eleni, The Manager has created an imaginative and creative set up that our kids really wanted to go to. The extra effort that went into having a really fun additional event on Halloween went down very well. The kids club was one of the reason we came in the first place having used Worldwide Kids Club before, and we were not disappointed – she and the club are a credit to the resort 5 The weather – the big winner – It’s still great in late October hitting averages of about 25 / 26 most days. The Areas For Improvement 1 The Quality of service. Perhaps we have been spoilt by the years of going to Sani Resort in Helkidiki and more recently Ikos Resorts in Corfu. The pricing is not radically different – but there was a huge gulf in customer service and customer care ethos. I think it may just come down to management ethos or style as opposed to individual lapses. For example: • On check in we were asked to sit down and then left for 30 minutes and had to remind reception we were there. Eventually, the bar tender came to us to ask if we wanted a drink. We later realised that this was in fact a welcome drink but was never positioned in this way! • No formal introduction was given to the hotel and its facilities. No tour offered. We were give a 2 minute brief explanation as the receptionist host stood in front of us whilst we sat down. We were shown to our room by a porter – but then we were left to work out how to piece together this large resort ourselves • Staff broadly showed slightly withdrawn attitude to customer service. No one was rude. Everyone did the basics – but the difference really was a lack of “going the extra mile” – for example o No pool service for drinks. You had to go and get your own. Sometimes delivered to where you are sitting, something you had to take yourself. No one walked round to see if they can help. The staff would stand stationary if they were quiet. o No assistance with towels for your sun beds. A man stood by the towels all day and did little to assist guests. o No menus for food or drink at seats round pool - no one comes to see if you want food – you have go and find someone o At Apollo Tavern we were placed in a table with no clear ownership by a waiter and had to wait ages for service to place order and then reminders to clear between courses o We had to send back badly (and dangerously under cooked meat ) on the night we were there and the apology was half hearted an no member of management became involved (have pictures if management would like them) o Management visibility is extremely limited bordering on non-existent. You got used to seeing the staff - but lack of viability of management I think is a contributing factor to some of the points that I make. No one once in the week asked how we were finding the hotel. 2 The pool was ridiculously freezing. Apparently there is a date based criteria to turning the heating on as opposed to a temperature one ! Children were only able to survive a brief period in the pool and consistently came out shivering and with blue lips. Despite there being a lot of children at the hotel the pool was constantly pretty empty. As requested in many previous reviews a change here would step change the attractiveness of the resort. 3 The beach area is a huge disappointment. It is run down. Sun beds are old and tired. No towels unless you go back to the hotel. The sun shades are rusty and dated. The area is not tidied – I do not mean it was dirty – but just un-kept. The beach itself if dominated by dried out dead seaweed. The area is not staffed. There is no where to get refreshments. Not 5 star. 4 The cost of drinks / snacks is off the scale insulting. It is no wonder that so few people participate as over a week you would need a second mortgage to clear the bill. There is little wonder that you see army’s of people trooping down to the local shop to get provisions. As a business strategy it feels really odd as I am convinced that a more realistic pricing policy would pay out. As a side note…. a tip go to Michael’s Steakhouse in Old Pissouri Town. Great steak. Great service. Well priced. See my separate review. I hope this balanced feedback is taken in a positive light. Would we go again ? There are many plusses – but for us unless there is a step on in service there are simply other options in SE Europe region that tick all the boxes.
