The Best Hotel in Paphos
Even though hotels are closed at the moment, I wanted to take the time to write a delayed review of the Amavi Made for Two Hotel. On TripAdvisor it's currently no. 1 for hotels in Paphos and rightly so. We visited just before Christmas last year and had a great time. The bedrooms are modern and well equipped and we had a lovely view of the incredible sunsets from our balcony. We made full use of the spacious ground floor lounge area enjoying drinks and tasty snacks from the helpful and friendly staff. Breakfasts are very good too - plentiful and wide ranging with your bacon or eggs individually cooked. The loungers are also worth mentioning - no early morning visits are necessary to reserve your lounger with a towel, as you are allocated loungers for your stay with a lockable safe and free water provided daily. A special mention for Katerina who took us on our trip to the Kato Paphos archaeological site - well worth a visit. The hotel is throroughly recommended for when Paphos opens up for business again.
More adults only than made for two
Visited in January for a nice Winter break. The hotel was lovely and the view from the room was excellent. The food was really nice but I didn't feel that the main restaurant was how I had imagined before the trip. There were large tables of local people so some guests had to wait to be seated and tables made up for groups of people rather than the cozy made for two. The a la carte restaurant was really good and was a different experience all together. We couldn't get a seat in the bar lounge as that was also filled with local people instead of guests. We will return to Paphos when we are over the Coronavirus and things are back to a more normal life but will go back to the Olympic Lagoon and stay in the adults only section.
First visit but not our last
We arrived at the hotel three days before the Cypriot Government ordered all the bars, restaurants and shops to close due to the Coronavirus outbreak. It really did make a difference to the town and over the following week there were fewer and fewer people walking around as tour operators brought their travellers back. However the Amavi carried on until it was forced to close seven days later and we were one of the last couples to leave on the Saturday evening before the airport closed. During our stay the hotel was marvellous with excellent food, fantastic staff and clean and pleasant surroundings. From being checked in at reception, shown to your room by the bell boy who explained how all the gadgets worked, arranging with the pool attendant which sun lounger you would like, being met in the restaurant by the greeters who showed you to your table and all the friendly waiting staff, our stay was truly memorable. The housekeepers and cleaning staff always greeted you with a friendly “hello” when you passed them on the corridor. I feel it is probably the attitude of the staff that has merited this hotel to be number one on Trip Advisor. Special mention should be made to Joanna on reception and the waiting staff Innut, Ionadonis, Lucian and especially little Georgeianna who was exceptional. The hard working chefs provided delicious and tasty food and we liked the way they put small quantities out and replenished them when necessary which saved the food going cold. I just hope that when the hotel reopens it takes back ALL its staff to carry on their excellent work. Thanks also go to Charis the General Manager who was always walking round chatting to guests and his staff and is really a “Hands on” type of person. We are looking at returning in the new year when hopefully everything will be back to normal and we can enjoy this hotel and Paphos Town again. Graham and Linda
Five star in every way - superb!
No effort has been spared in creating a beautiful holiday experience at Amavi. The setting above a pretty sandy bay within easy walking distance of Paphos harbour front is perfect (although the town itself is sadly quite run down). The hotel, although larger than we normally choose, is extremely elegant with lovely public areas and terraces to gaze out to sea. The rooms are very spacious, well finished and have every comfort including a kettle coffee machine ( tea, coffee, milk and water replenished daily), iron, ironing board, hairdryer, free safe, dressing gowns and slippers. Great electronic switches for everything. Housekeeping is thorough and an evening turn down service (with choc!) is a nice touch. Of the four restaurants, three were open (2 required reservations) during our visit (in March just before the coronavirus shutdown) and the quality of food at each was first class. Very friendly and efficient service is provided by all staff. We enjoyed use of the well equipped gym, indoor pool, sauna and steam room and the haidresser and spa looked good. Guest services staff completed a memorable visit with special treats on our anniversary. We loved it!
I am not too sure where to begin, this Hotel is “Just Superb”. I cannot believe how good everything about it is. Even though half way through our 10 days the island was put on lockdown through Covid 19, but still everyone performed superbly. On arrival we were greeted with a smile & a drink, the staff were helpful & efficient with a lovely smile. We were shown to our room & all the technical lighting & services were explained. The food both breakfast & evening meal were excellent with a great variety. You even order your “hot” food (eggs, bacon etc) any way you with the cooked. You get a bottle of water, wine, beer etc with your evening meal. All the staff in the restaurant cannot do enough for you, & everything is done with a smile & conversation if you wish. Each evening there is a themed menu which is just brilliant. You are able to visit the other “a’la carte” restaurants once a week when the weather allows for the outdoor ones. These are excellent also. The sun beds are of an excellent quality & you get a reserved position of your choice for the duration of your holiday. Each day the attendant puts fitted towels on for you & you receive a further towel, bottle of water each & a table with lockable cupboard. Rooms are superb & exceptionally fitted out. Everything is controlled from a panel where you switch on lights, curtains, etc. The bathroom is very well fitted out & shower is just brilliant. The staff in all departments are faultless. Friendly, helpful & efficient. I cannot praise the Amavi enough, it is simply the best hotel we have stayed in. Thank you everyone at the Amavi & Kanika for looking after us so well in the difficult circumstances of this evil virus. Good luck & keep well everyone at the Amavi.
