Lovely hotel in old city
The hotel is nice. It's old but well-kept and clean. Each floor is a little different. We stayed in two different rooms (one at the beginning and one at the end of our Cuba trip). A/C worked well, plenty of room, nice bathrooms. Staff was always ready to help. The pool was nice. The restaurant for breakfast buffet had lots of options including filtered water.
We have zero complaints about this hotel. Yes it is old, but there is a ton of history there. Our room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Breakfast was phenomenal. Wait staff was attentive. Concierge was super helpful and called local restaurants to make reservations for us. Cigar shop was amazing. Mariela was our maid while we were there and she was so sweet and friendly and did a great job making sure our room looked great when we returned each evening. I highly recommend this hotel.
There's a fair bit of history and nostalgia in this famous Havana landmark.
This is an iconic Havana location, and not to be missed. There’s no problem about non-guests visiting, and you’ll probably want to stay for a drink anyway. It’s great to sit above the Malecon with a cocktail, which will cost little more than you’ll normally pay elsewhere in Havana. As well as taking in the views, take a chance to see the huge gun emplacements, with guns manufactured by Krupp’s still in situ. Inside the hotel be sure to visit the area dedicated to the numerous famous guests who have stayed at the hotel, including Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner. This room also includes statues of Compay Segundo and Nat King Cole.
Lovely, historical hotel
This hotel was amazing! What a great location. The restaurants were varied and delicious. Especially enjoyed the Churchill bar. The grounds are well kept and an easy stroll. Don''t miss the tunnel tour, with it's main area of historical maps about the missile crisis, to the interesting, twisting tunnels.
Corona travel restrictions
As all will be aware certain travel restrictions apply at this time. Our flights have also been cancelled and understandably so. We have booked a suite at the hotel for our time in Havana itself and prepaid the full amount. I have corresponded with the hotel on 5 separate occasions requesting either a cancellation or a voucher as we still will visit Cuba in the next 12 months if all is well. I have to date not received any correspondence re my request. All our other accommodation bookings in Cuba were unbelievably helpful with vouchers or cancellation without penalty. Poor service probably meaning we WILL NOT stay at the Nacional when we go.
