It’s hard to imagine a more enchanting place for that first coffee of the day than The Pucić Palace’s Café Royal. The all-day brasserie has a terrace in the corner of Gundulić Square itself, next to the early-morning market, and the included à la carte breakfast wins rave reviews. The tables on the square or those in the cosy, warm-hued interior - with coats of arms painted on the ceiling - are equally appealing for a lazy lunch, afternoon tea or a relaxed evening meal featuring local cuisine. La Capella is the hotel’s other, dressier restaurant, with a scenic first-floor terrace fringed by jasmine and citrus trees in front of what used to be the palace’s chapel. The menu here focuses on the flavours of the Eastern Mediterranean, so expect plenty of refined seafood dishes.
The hotel’s welcoming retro-styled Razonoda bar, in an annexe, has a lengthy wine list featuring many local vintages; there are also Croatian craft beers, cocktails and tapas on the menu.
