Best value for money in Dubrovnik area
I was surprised with the room quality in positive way on arrival. Also welcome drink and few other small things were provided. We stayed as family of 4 and everything during the stay was good. For our style hotel is little bit too big and dinner is buffet which I personally dont like but other then that I would say it is really good and just to mention that hotels location is 10/10. You can easily reach old town by foot but yet you are outside of it. If we ever come back to Dubrovnik Rixos is the place to stay.
Day 1&2 of our 8 stay break (updating each day)
Today is our first day at the Rixos. I’m here with my girlfriend and we’re staying for 8 days. I won’t detail everything now as I plan on writing a full, detailed review at the end of the holiday but thought it might be helpful for anyone looking to stay currently - to get some initial insight day by day… Negatives first: Arrived at the hotel at 2pm. The 3rd party company we booked through states checkin at 2pm. Rixos told us that’s incorrect and it should be 3pm. Went to the area overlooking the sea to wait. Told us they’d contact us by 3pm or before. Received an email at 4:40pm letting us know the room is now available. Manager was pretty rude and fobbed us off however that may have been because she was dealing with a separate issue with an unhappy couple. Booked in for a 50 minute massage in the spa - all great apart from no music which made it a little odd but nothing major. Back to the hotel room to get ready for dinner - I’m on the balcony having a coffee, GF is inside fully naked when I hear the door open and a guys voice. Turndown service maybe? Nope - other guests who have been checked in and given our room. Awesome. Water doesn’t drain properly from the bath so you’ll still see your morning shower water… in the afternoon (slight exaggeration but you get the point). Now positives: Reception area of the hotel is beautiful looking out on to the sea - reminds me of Mexico. Rooms are relatively clean and modern and if you have a sea room view then (you guessed it) you have a pretty decent view of the sea. Massage was lovely. Had a couples massage and it was everything we needed (bar the music) Waiter was very accommodating when gf spilt a drink (whilst waiting for the room to be ready). Didn’t get his name but I will do! So far - 3/5. Would have been a 4 but having another couple walk in on us is unacceptable. (Adding dinner from day 1 as it was in the teppanyaki restaurant within the hotel) Set menu. Lovely dinner. Cute chef who tried hard. Similar setup to a Beni-Hana whilst the chef was possibly not as “experienced” but definitely not an issue. Day 2… Pos: Awesome breakfast. Pretty much everything you’d ever want. Fresh, tasty and clean. Waiting staff were also excellent. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating - shame the same can’t be said for front of house… so far. Sorting out chairs for sunbathing when ‘Robert’ came over and hooked us up. Put us in a prime spot for the sun and set everything up. Extremely cool guy, friendly, chatty and hard working. Neg: Left the room at 8am. Returned back at 5:30pm… no housekeeping despite passing them when we left at 8am. Called reception to ask if they offered housekeeping (stupid question I know but as it stands I’m just not sure). No reason or justification to how or why our room had been missed. Just that it would be sorted when we are out for dinner. Ok cool. Iced cocktails needed in this heat but could do with less ice and more alcohol. Sounds picky but it genuinely tastes like a mocktail or slush puppy (which I’m totally down for to be honest) but not when you’re paying alcohol prices. Minor point. Clawing back some points here. 4/5 so far. Stay tuned
Enjoyable Stay at the Rixos Premium Dubrovnik
This was our first visit to Dubrovnik, and we would return in the future. Check-in at the hotel was a bit slow, but we received a welcome drink, and as a Gold Accor Live Limitless Member received an upgrade to a Deluxe Room with a Sea View (we booked a Superior Room with a Sea View initially). The Superior Rooms are below the reception level, but the Deluxe Rooms are on the floor above. The room had an open terrace with a table and chairs and two sun loungers which had the sun most of the day. The room was a decent size with a shower and jacuzzi bath, and premium toiletries. We didn't eat any evening meals at the hotel, but we did have room service, which wasn't expensive, and the food was okay but nothing special. However, breakfast was good, with lots of different options available. We had drinks at the sports bar and the lobby lounge, and the service was slow. It was the same down at the pool, and sadly, this is what let the hotel experience down and why we did not give it an excellent rating. The hotel is only a 15-20 minute walk to the Old Town, but you could get a taxi as the walk on the way back is uphill. Apart from the slow service, it was a great experience, and we would recommend the hotel if you are travelling to Dubrovnik.
High quality hotel
The Rixos Premium is an excellent hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our week there. Our room was clean and spacious with a nice balcony where we enjoyed using the sunbeds. Higher floors are better with 8 and above having the best views. The hotel amenities are excellent. I enjoyed the gym which had a lot of equipment and never felt busy. The swimming pool was very good and there is a roped off area in the sea which we used to start our day with a pre breakfast swim. We didn’t use the spa but heard good things from other guests. Table tennis, air hockey and pool tables are all available free of charge. The main restaurant serves breakfast and dinner as a buffet. The atmosphere with musicians playing is very good and we enjoyed eating on the terrace with views of the sea. Breakfast was exceptional with a myriad of choices for every taste and bottles of fizz for those that wanted it. Dinner had a nightly theme but 75% of the choices remained the same. At £70 a head for dinner, water and a shared bottle of wine it didn’t feel great value for a buffet dinner. Marko the wine waiter was brilliant and was able to recommend some tasty croatian wines however i thought the pricing was too high, particularly when we were able to enjoy the same wines at other restaurants at half the price. The sports bar was excellent when events were on but similar to the lobby bar was quiet most of the time. At £8 a pint and £14 for a G&T there wasn’t a lot of custom in the bars and therefore no atmosphere. We had lunch at the poolside restaurant which was fine for salads and pizzas. When the bill arrived the drinks prices were 25% higher than the menu. We were told prices had gone up but the new menus hadn’t arrived. If this had happened in the walled city i would have thought as a tourist i was being ripped off. In a hotel of this calibre i thought it was a major error. The location of the hotel is excellent with beautiful views and 20 minutes walk to the nearest point of the old city and 30 minutes to the far side. It is uphill on the way back but there are lots of buses heading that way if you don’t fancy the walk. The 3 day Dubrovnik card gives you 6 bus tickets which can be used between the old city to near the hotel. There are several bars and restaurants within 5 minutes of the hotel. The staff were excellent. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful.
Excellent Food & Experience
We had such an amazing evening at Rixos Hotel’s Umi Teppanyaki! The chefs were amazing both entertaining us with their great skills and personalities, the food was some of the best we’ve tasted and all whilst sitting looking out at a beautiful bay in Dubrovnik. It was a great family evening and something to remember! Highly recommend,
