Lovely stay at Croatian beach resort
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort. The level of service was excellent, the room was clean and comfortable with a beautiful view, the breakfast was exceptional (complete with a chocolate fondue fountain!) and the grounds were beautiful. I also loved that you have the option of using the beach or the amazing resort pools. The hotel was very busy and crowded, so it didn’t feel like a private resort experience by any means, but the other patrons were considerate and kept to themselves so it didn’t negatively hinder the experience. However, if you’re looking for a getaway where you are not surrounded by lots of other people on vacation, this is not the place for you. (I would recommend Villa Nora in the heart of Old Town.) The only negative in my book was that you have to purchase lounge chairs and an umbrella at the beach. It wasn’t incredibly expensive so it was not a huge deal, but would be nicer if it was included in the cost of the hotel. Overall it was a wonderful experience — the concierge was helpful in transporting our bags to the ferry port at the exact time we needed, so that made life very easy and stress-free. The staff weren’t overly kind or friendly (as they were at many other hotels we stayed at during our Croatia vacation––as a matter of fact most staff members at the Amfora were a bit cold) but they were efficient and helpful so we were pleased. Had it been our first stop I think I would have been taken back that we didn’t receive a warm Croatian welcome, but because it was my 4th hotel in Croatia I was grateful for the efficiency and didn’t mind the lack of warmth. That’s what the sun, beach and pools were for!
The hotel was beautiful and situated right on the Adriatic with beautiful views. But there were some little things that prevented me from giving it 5 stars. Checkin: Smooth Staff: Good, no complaints at all. Hotel Decor: As the name says, this is definitely more of a beach resort than other Croatian hotels we stayed at. The decor was nice but the way it was setup was a bit of an inconvenience getting around. Getting to and from the pool area was a bit of a stroll. Took a while to know how to navigate from the pool area to the walkway into town. Lobby was all the way up and an elevator ride away. Pool was crowded and a bit noisy but no problems getting lounge chairs. Location: Excellent. A beautiful, scenic, very enjoyable walk to and from the city. Not too far and not too close. Room: We were with our two older adult kids and we stayed in the 2 bedroom deluxe penthouse suite. It was huge. Master bedroom and bath were beautiful with awesome views of the pool and sea. Common area had a large dinning table (with nightly treats put on them) it was really nice, and a cozy living room. Though the panoramic terrace definitely was amazing (see pics). It was almost as big as the suite itself. It had a nice dinning table with balcony chairs, couches in the shade. It was 'almost', I dare say, too over the top. You can open doors from either bedroom onto terrace and rolling electrical umbrella for shade. Restaurants/Food: We had all our dinners out. We had room service for breakfast (instead of the buffet) to take advantage of the incredible terrace and views. The room service was fit for a king. I felt guilty with all the food they gave us. Nit Pick: No restocking of bottled water. I asked one of the breakfast wait staff for a few cold bottled waters and she sheepishly said she would have to charge us. Really? An over the top breakfast that could have fed half the hotel and they wanted to charge us a few bucks for a bottled water? Pool and Activities: Pool was always crowded, but you can definitely get chairs. Thai massage tent right near pool area (and they were great), food and beverage service right to your chair. The only negative water sports were quite a walk away. Overall: Yes this was a nice hotel and we definitely enjoyed our stay. 4 Stars. Perhaps cause I'm getting a little too old (59) for a crowded noisy beach club resort feel. I'm sure our two older kids felt differently.
LOVING IT and coming back again this summer
We spent the most beautiful week in Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort last summer and decided to come back this year again. Absolutely every segment of our stay in the hotel was phenomenal. This was our first visit after almost 30 years and it was beyond all our expectations. We can't say enough about the wonderful staff in the hotel, from the front desk, bell boys, waiters, to staff in the restaurant that we became friends with. Rooms are superb, always clean, food is out of this world, people greet you always with a smile, making your stay beyond pleasant. Beach is right in front of the hotel, the city of Hvar is a nice walk, a perfect place to relax and enjoy your summer vacation. We can't wait to go back this August and hopefully see many familiar and friendly faces again.
I spent 4 days at this hotel. Everything was what I expected from a mid-range hotel. The location was great--a 10 minute walk from the city center. It might be a bit hard to find if it's your first time in Hvar. I would recommend arranging for a pickup by the hotel at the port. My room was a bit small but clean. Overall a decent stay.
The absolute BEST
Four nights in Hvar with my friends at the best hotel ever, will be a repeat next summer season! Its a really nice hotel and the people working here are very nice too and used to the young people having fun, keeping the hotel tidy and assisting the guests. There are lots of activities to do, so much pool space, massages, salon, gym, restaurants. The best choice in Hvar without a single doubt.
