Excellent place to recover from a long flight
We stayed for 2 nights at grano de oro after flying in from London. It was a great choice. The transfer is only 20 minutes and the hotel is a gem. Rooms are spacious and well maintained with plenty of storage space. We had rooms on the ground floor that gave onto an interior court yard. The hotel was quiet and an easy walk into the central market. The restaurant is excellent as is the breakfast. Jacuzzis on the roof are fun.
Amazing Food Stay is Ok
Thought this hotel would be more posh, the bedding/room options are nice but standard - not really representative of the price - however, they’re vegetarian food options were incredible. Still one of the best meals I’ve had in Costa Rica - ate there breakfast, lunch and dinner and lunch and dinner options were outstanding.
Ideal for a night in San Jose
We have been travelling around Costa Rica for our holiday this year and have stayed twice at the Grano de Oro as a one-night stopover en route to our next destination. San Jose itself is unlikely to be the highlight of anybody’s trip to Costa Rica, but this hotel is a real plus point. We found the rooms on both occasions comfortable, quiet and good value for money. During our second visit we decided to have dinner at the hotel’s restaurant - quite often hotel restaurants seem to be mediocre and overpriced, so this came as a real surprise. The food was excellent, there was an extensive wine list and the meal was sensibly priced. If you’re heading to San Jose, this place is well worth your consideration.
Perfect One Night Stays
We stayed at Grano de Oro on our first night in Costa Rica after landing at San Jose and moving on to Arenal, and then again halfway through our trip before heading to the south of the country. We stayed in a standard room on our first one night stay (room 34) and then on our way back we booked a standard room but were upgraded as we had stayed the week before and were in a deluxe king (room 10). The standard room didn’t have a window to the outside but instead patio doors to an indoor courtyard (actually a cornered off part of the hotel corridor) with a fountain, but this was fine. Room 10 was on the upper level and a larger room with windows out to the city. On both occasions we found the rooms well appointed, very clean, comfy beds and the staff were friendly. The terrace is a nice area to relax outside (didn’t try the jacuzzi). On our second visit we decided to try the restaurant for an evening meal and it was outstandingly good. I’d definitely recommend a meal here, and for the quality was very reasonably priced. San Jose itself isn’t a pretty city and I certainly wouldn’t be rushing to return to it, but for what we needed as a place to stay for a night before heading off to our main places to visit on our trip, Grano de Oro far exceeded our expectations.
Solo female in San jose
As a 30 year old traveller who had been staying in hostels all around Costa Rica this oasis was a welcome change. 2 nights prior to going home I wanted a spot of luxury and this is exactly what I got. The hotel is boutique and luxurious. I spent many hours on the rooftop jacuzzi area as well as the private terrace from my room. Staff were amazing, hotel beautiful. Perfect end to my holiday in Costa Rica.
