Wonderful cabaña , beautiful grounds, superb breakfast with an awesome volcano view and a hot spring pool.
Two over the top extras: a veranda with two rocking chairs with a brook babbling by (room 134) and a swim up bar in the thermal pool with a bartender that made huge mojitos that were the best I ever tasted. Don’t miss this place if you are going to La Fortuna.
Exceeded our expectations!
Arenal Manoa Hotel exceeded our expectations! Our suite was in a villa located in a lush tropical setting that opened to magnificent views of the Arenal Volcano. The exotic bird life was incredible! We enjoyed the hot springs pool and ate delicious mushroom risotto at the pool bar. Our evenings were spent drinking wine on our patio watching birds (including the Toucans), monkeys, and sunsets. The Saca Restaurant at this resort deserves Michelin stars! The food was local, fresh, and delicious every time that we ate there. The staff was friendly and our room was clean and comfortable. I highly recommend adding this resort to your vacation agenda!
I'd just arrived at Arenal Manoa & Hot Springs in the afternoon and almost immediately saw a pair of toucans as they flew past the Arenal Volcano. It was an incredible way to start my stay in the area. I was also given a room upgrade with a direct view of the Volcano (assuming no clouds). My room was spacious and had a sizable outdoor space with furniture for enjoying the volcano views. Note: the rooms are in separate houses (2 units per house from what I could observe). The rooms are very private and it is easy to get around the grounds by either a short walk (my preference) or you can drive to the various parts of the hotel (the pool, restaurant, etc) should that be your preference. I also enjoyed the pool and the hot springs --- the service was spot on. David was very attentive and kind. I felt very relaxed and the location was very convenient to the downtown area and many of the local attractions.
JUST NOT THERE YET
This place is just not done and has a lot to learn. There is only a small sign for the hotel off the main road. You drive down a rutted dirt road for a bit before the road becomes paved with brick. The visit started off with unfriendly front desk attendants in a “lobby” that looked like an updated bus station. The property is all in Spanish, and VERY spread out. Most of the plants look like they‘be been planted in the past couple years, so don’t expect a lush jungle landscape. There is a bog right in the middle of the property that is trying to be passed off as a small lake. There is one pool that is whatever temperature the air is, so it can get really cold. The traditional hot tub by the pool is really just warm and has no jets. The bar tender at the pool was not very friendly and was more concerned about reconciling old bills in the system than making drinks. There is also not many places to sit around the pool to relax. There are a couple drilled hot spring pools, but are not very hot. Each room is a separate building, and the grounds around them are only well kept on the street side of them. Outside your patio is not well groomed. The rooms have almost no outlets, and the ones that are in there are far from the bed. So don’t expect to have your phone plugged in next to your bed. The bathroom was decent, but had no air vent and the shower head came from the same distributed that sells to roadside motels back in the States. The beds are decently comfortable, but only had a fitted and top sheet on them! no comforter or throw or anything. I had to call and ask for a coffee set up as only the pot was in the room. I also wanted a couple extra pillows. The housekeeping person was more unfriendly than the front desk people. No Pura Vida in these people’s lives. Very out of character for CR. The restaurants are over priced. Highly recommend going the short drive into La Fortuna where there are great restaurants. If you can find the under $180/night deal and just want a safe and decently landscaped place to crash after being out and about all day and evening, it’s a worthy option. But any more than that, I would say keep looking. It has a lot of potential. But it needs some years to make some adjustments and growth to the grounds, amenities and service. They just don’t seem to know who they are yet.
Amazing place. Beautiful villas and surroundings. Superb food and service. An unforgettable experience. Arenal and pura vida at its finest. Mornings will never be the same.Costa Rican coffee on the terrace facing the volcano surrounded with the beautiful plants and flowers and countless birds and butterflies. Heaven.
