Good views and close to tours
I was hesitate to stay in a place that had bungalows instead of rooms in buildings but it was very nice. I had a volcano hike/hot springs tour that lasted until after dark. I was able to get a shuttle from reception to my room instead of walking. I felt safe walking around during the day but you are still out in a rain forest with wild animals around. There is a security gate at the entrance with a guard. All my tours were able to pick me up from the gate area. Best for me was the spa service. I had several treatments. The cabin is near rivers and you can hear the natural sounds of the rain forest during your massage. However the restaurant was poorly run. I recommend getting room service if you don't want to wait forever at a table for food. I asked about what type of cake was in the ice cream cake dessert that I wanted to go. The person said vanilla cake. It was actually chocolate cake sandwiching vanilla ice cream with strawberry ice cream on top. it was not prepared to go. It took 15 mins and asking 3 people to get my check to leave.
Two stays, both great
We actually stayed August 2014 and January 2016 (been awhile!) but both times were great. We’ve gone to other parts of the country since then but need to get back. We loved the turrialba area for rainforest and rafting but nothing has replaced Arenal for me and this was a wonderful place to stay and extremely helpful staff!
This resort is beautifully laid out. Rooms are semidetached buildings and are quite large. The grounds are well laid out and well land-scaped. There are shuttles available for those with walking difficulties. The shuttles also roam when it's raining and will pick up anyone. There is a thermal pool as well as a regular pool, although one day it wasn't very warm at all. The food is quite good, and the breakfast area looks out over an area full of birds, caymans etc. Probably the only downer is the lack of place for clothing. There are only 3 drawers, not nearly enough for 2 people staying for several days. Our room had a terrific view of the Arenal volcano.
Nice hotel, but..
It is a really nice hotel, with good restaurant and happy hours on pool bars. We had a really nice view to the volcano and enjoyed the pool :) The only down side is that if you want to make a tour, the prices provided on the brochure at reception and rooms (and even on their website) do not correspond to what you are going to pay. For example if you want a tour to Catarata La Fortuna with horses, instead of paying $65, they are going to charge you $74 per person "supposely" because of a country tax. This tax is not written anywhere and if you ask what the tax is for no one will tell you exactly what it is. Expect this inconvinience when going to this hotel.
Lovely Hotel and Spa
Great views from our very comfortable room and patio. Dining room overlooked a small lake populated by herons and egrets. Many flowers and beautiful plantings throughout the grounds. Restaurant Service and other personnel were friendly and helpful.
