Very Warm & Friendly
This was our first trip to a Secrets Resort. We were very impressed with the welcoming we received from David. He was very welcoming as we were escorted to the Preferred check-in location where we met Luis. He was very friendly and clearly explained everything we needed to know from the restaurants to the required Covid test we had to take to get back into the US. Our room was great! It overlooked the shore line and was very clean and comfortable. I especially liked it because it was one floor and attached to one other room, so there was a sense of privacy. We did have to walk up a good hill to get there, and there was a nice little hiking path right next to the room. If we needed anything (additional beverages in the fridge or towels), it was just a call away and someone was there within a short amount of time. The Café was a daily stop for us with morning coffee for my husband and ice cream for the two of us in the evening. Cinthia and Soummer were all smiles whenever we came in and very welcoming. My husband loved the cappuccino and was even happier when his order was remembered! We very much enjoyed the pool area amenities. It did appear that there were fewer than normal lounge chairs (due to the pandemic), but there really was not a lack of seating (in the sun or under some shade). The pool was very enjoyable and there were activities throughout the day that got people moving. Most everyday it was extremely windy, so the umbrellas were close, but we were able to sign up for a cabana on the lower terrace area, which enabled us to have coverage from the sun while still enjoying the day. The beach is public, but that was never a big deal for us (we're from California where all beaches are public). The black sand and warm water made for refreshing swims. There is a nice little walk along the shore (go in the AM due to the rising tide in the PM). There were only a couple of vendors, on the beach. If you were not interested, all you ha to say was 'No Gracîas' and that was it. Compared to other places/beaches we have been to where there seems like a constant barrage of vendors selling this or that, This was great! The topography of the resort is very hilly!! There are shuttles running 24/7 if a person needs/wants a ride from point A to Point B. The hills are a good little walking workout (we are very active, so we liked it)! We would walk to the gym that was on the opposite side of the resort (we could also take the beach route that took half the time). I brought a pair of wedges for dinners, but ended up not using them and relied on a pair of flip flops. The restaurants were very good. There are two for breakfast & lunch (sit down), a grill for lunch and snacks and Three open for dinner. The food was very good, and the service always came with a friendly smile (and some indulgence as I practice my Spanish). One thing that we had to remember that the speed of the service is something not a "fast" as in the US, but that, I feel was our "thing". Once we let our minds "kick in" that we were on vacation and were not needed somewhere in 10 minutes, we enjoyed the leisurely meals enjoying the view and atmosphere around us. A couple shout outs! * Merari the Activities Coordinator - WONDERFULLY friendly and energetic! Was very enthusiastic with her job. Again, she indulged my efforts to improve my Spanish with patience. She took us on a sunset hike that was amazing. The trail began on the opposite side of the resort from us (there are two short trails on the resort). She pointed out the different plants, animals (animals sounds), and shared information about the Guanacaste province. She was just a great person to be around! * Arturo the Bartender - His bar was my husband's favorite place to drink! Even though he (and everyone else) were wearing masks, you could tell he was enjoying what he did. He was a popular person as his bar was always busy, and he was able to keep up!! We were able to have some nice conversations with him and felt he was just an awesome person. We did take a couple of excursions with the AMStar tour groups, but I'll post thos reviews in those areas. Overall, this was an enoyable experience. We have been to other all inclusive resorts, But feel that Secrets is right up there. We are happy to see that they are expanding and providing more options. Secrets does offer a membership plan for their resorts. We were given a tour credit for attending a membership consultation. It ended up not being something we were interested in, and they were great about our answer. Suggestions: • The resort is nice, but go off site. Take an excursion to really get to know Costa Rica. We had a great time with these and really made us want to go back. • Unless you are going off site to go dancing, I would leave the heels at home and bring a nice pair of sandals. Suggestion for Secrets: One thing we missed was a place (outside on our balcony) to hang our swims suits (or other wet clothing) to dry. A drying rack or wall mounted hooks would be nice to have. We placed our suits on the chairs and the wind blew them off. We had a great time! Definitely a business we would consider visit again.
We've stayed at three Secret destinations and two Dreams destinations. We are never disappointed! Once you stay with Unlimited Vacation Club nothing else compares! We highly recommend! We will continue to use UVC for many years.
Secrets and Costa Rica
My wife and I were at Costa Rica on March 2 -9. Our experience was extremely good. We went to two AI resorts, and toured Costa Rica (beautiful country). I credit it all to Oscar Magana Reyes. We were left stranded at the airport after having paid "GETTRANSFER" from airport to the resort we had reservations for. That resort was about 2 miles from Secrets, and driver was a no show. Oscar offered to help us. He got us Round Trip transfer cheaper than we paid, to this other resort. In exchange he asked us go to Secrets and listen and "see this resort". We thanked him and down the road we went. We set up a time and day to go visit Secrets and he sent someone to pick us up. We told him we wanted a couple tours. So he set up Jerel - ANOTHER FANTASTIC GUY - to drive us to the rain forest and shopping spree in Coco Beach. Oscar was like our own private dispatcher for rides. He also got us a driver to go listen and view Secrets. We ended up joining up with UVC and then asked to stay the last 3 nights of our trip at Secrets....YES, Oscar Magana Reyes was there to send a driver to pick us up from one resort and move us to Secrets for the last 3 nights. He was very helpful in tours, shuttling us around and all I had to do was text him and he would immediately respond. Told us exactly when driver would pick us up and told us when the driver was 5-10 minutes late.. I can't say enough about him....But his name and number are in my phone we will look him up again the next time in beautiful Costa Rica
One of the best experiences - the event staff made the trip
Upon arriving, I wasn’t sure what to expect, or that I had made the right call going to the Pacific side vs the Caribbean side of the country. My first night there we had some amazing food, the event staff put on a show called the Beatles show. Which was AMAZING. Each one of the dancers also hangs out during the week playing corn hole, water volley ball, bing, connect 4. So we got to know them really well. By the end of the trip I was excited to see them and interact with and felt like they were truly my friends. Luisbert, Ana, Mirian, Negar, thank you guys for making the stay at the resort unforgettable. From The jokes and teasing playing volley ball, to the great conversations and getting to know you guys, I truly hope to see you guys again. The resort is lucky to have such amazing people! LuisBerto was always smiling, and fully present. Negar, had me laughing all the time. Mirian feels like a sister, she would tease me playing volley ball, she and I had some great conversations and I enjoyed getting to know her! I didn’t get to see Ana enough! She was very sweet and fun to be around! One of the funniest experiences was, after the last show the entire staff came over to my family, I was telling Negar and LuisBert how strong they were. They told me I could life the girls too, and then they helped me and showed me how!! Photos are below! Unbelievable experience. The resort staff went above and beyond to make the resort feel like home. A few other people I wanted to thank as well, Arturo the bartender. He was so happy all the the time he helped me with my Spanish and always Called me over to the bar to talk with Him. He is a true gentleman. Randy and George the pool servers, went above and beyond and was always checking in on us and making sure we were having a good time. Jario a server at the Asian restaurant, was super attentive and we could tell he loved his job. We appreciated his positive attitude, his help and recommendations. By the time it was time to leave I was deeply saddened thinking I might not see these people again. I’ll definitely be coming back. With love for you all! Pura vida!! ¡¡Pura vida!!
Awesome People and service
We went on a double couple trip. At the time we got to Costa Rica we met Oscar who told us about the resort and although we were booked at a different one, we ende up switching over. Oscar also hooked us up with a great tour guide and we went on an excursion to El Rincon de la Vieja. Oscar also helped arrange our covid-19 tests, so that we did not have to stress. We had a blast!
