I expected a better experience
After all the fabulous reviews I really expected a better experience. We had the beachfront suite with a very large veranda. The pro's: Location- it's beachfront and walk-able to Tamorindo Beach is beautiful Staff is very nice Food was good but watch out for the ants Room was large and clean Pool was fine-staff was always cleaning it to keep the leaves out. A never ending battle. Cons: Ants were all over the BBQ buffet food tables and food and staff didn't do anything Ants were on the breakfast food tables and food and staff didn't do anything Ants were all over our very large veranda so we couldn't use half of it where the couch and table were. We unknowingly sat on the couch the first night and ended up with tiny ants all over our legs. Staff came and sprayed but they ants were back again the next night. It's obviously a problem on the property. Room was slightly dated and I would not consider it a four star hotel. Room had no window to open so you had to sleep with the ac on. Considering the cost of the room and ants on the food issue, unfortunately I would not stay here again. It seems the ant issue on the food has been going on for years. I was re-reading reviews and saw similar comments back in 2017. We have stayed in MANY tropical destinations with all kind of insects (but none on the food) and feel Capitan Suizo was not worth returning to.
Great Honeymoon Destination
We traveled down from the US to stay here for 4 days as part of our Honeymoon Adventure across the country. The staff was immediately and consistently gracious to us-we were taken aback by how well everyone spoke English among many other languages. Much of the staff was multi-lingual and would speak in the native tongue of whomever they were speaking with. One of my favorite moments was at our first breakfast when the manager on duty came up to us and welcomed us to breakfast and the resort. We watched her do this with every new couple that arrived, and would speak in English, Spanish, Deutsche, French, and I'm sure she had a few more languages up her sleeve-it was so great to experience! I wish I could remember her name (its been a few weeks now since we've returned) but it was one of those little things that make you dream of your return trip. Other than the service, the resort grounds are spectacular, there are numerous species of animals (howler monkeys, iguanas, birds, cats, etc..) that will greet you around the property. The resort is far enough away from the party atmosphere of Tamarindo but close enough to walk to shops and restaurants in town. Though there is no gym on property, they do provide access to a local wellness spot that is in a nice spot close by. Rooms were very spacious and you have your own air conditioning control. It was a dream spot and we loved every bit of it.
Relaxing end of our trip
This is a very attractive, boutique hotel with an incredibly relaxed atmosphere, beautiful gardens, great beach, super pool, great food and wonderful service from everyone. It was the perfect place to relax after a busy touring holiday in Costa Rica. Our villa was very comfortable. Only two small gripes: the bathroom needs updating as the fixtures and fittings are rather old fashioned for an upmarket hotel and no bathrobes provided (they did give us two small ones at second time of asking). It didn't detract from a wonderful holiday but these small touches make the difference between a really nice hotel to a topnotch 5 star one. What also really impressed us was that we felt the prices for food and drink were good value for the quality and range. So often you feel ripped off at luxury hotels but not at Capitan Suizo. One small example, I had a marguerita in town that was awful and for the same price a fabulous one at the hotel. We would certainly return.
Exceptionally good in every way
We stayed here at the end of a break in Costa Rica. The staff were exceptional in providing a service which was polite, caring and genuine. No worthless platitudes just heart felt concern that we enjoyed our stay. They could not have done more for us. The hotel is spotless despite monkey and other wildlife visitors. The food is tasty and very well presented too and the rooms very well laid out.
My husband and I traveled to Costa Rica March 2020 for our Honeymoon. We spent the first half of the week in the rainforest then came to Capital Suizo. We had one of the garden bungalows which was absolutely beautiful. It was very private and spacious. The outdoor shower is great for showering after the beach and playing in the ocean. Excellent walking distance to downtown Tamarindo but quiet if you're looking for less beach traffic. Amazing spot, will definitely be back!
