Beautiful hotel the beach bar was very set up and the service was by far none excellent by Patricia. We then went for anniversary dinner the food was 3 out of five the service was two out of five. The bar manager said they were overwhelmed with to many people that is not my fault that is their fault. For meal that cost $240.00
We spent the week after Easter 2021 at El Mangroove after the place where we were originally scheduled to stay did not work out so well. The El Mangroove was great. Our family had 11 meals here, and each one was excellent; the only way we ordered any "repeat" meals was because we really liked what they served (for example, the grilled octopus). Staffing was perhaps a bit on the light side, as it seemed that the hotel was *maybe* 50% full, but everyone on the team was attentive, friendly, and helpful. Rooms and pool were nice, as were the two restaurants and the beach (which is about 200 feet away). The crowd was a mix of families and couples. We would definitely stay here again.
Beautiful grounds, terrific service, great tour
We had a great time at El Mangroove! The gardens, pool, and beach areas are beautifully designed, meticulously kept, and stunningly beautiful. But the most impressive part of our stay was the service that we received from literally everyone who works there - they were very kind, welcoming, and efficient. We were especially pleased with our tour guide, Marvin, who took us to a strikingly beautiful waterfall, a fascinating animal rescue center, and an excellent local restaurant. Throughout the tour, including while he was driving us to each destination, Marvin shared with us his very extensive knowledge of local history, flora, and fauna. Marvin’s English is excellent, but he also kindly helped us practice our far-from-fluent Spanish. We hope to go back to El Mangroove soon, and to go on another tour with Marvin!
Horrible Customer Service - No response
They are very responsive when you are trying to book something with them or spend money with them, however, when my wife got COVID and I kindly asked for a refund, THEY DO NOT RESPOND. I HAVE TO FOLLOW UP WITH THEM A BUNCH OF TIMES AND STILL NO RESPONSE. Sometimes bad things happen to people and it would be nice if they understood and not just try and squeeze every penny out of you. I think it would be a better business practice if they treated their guests with respect so that they would come back. I will never book at this hotel EVER again. I will also write this same review on every single travel site so that others do not fall prey to this hotel.
Relaxing and friendly
I planned this trip nearly a year in advance, and luckily, Costa Rica opened travel in December so we could still go. The resort itself did not seem to be at full capacity due to Covid, but the amenities and level were not affected. The staff here are all exceptional, and went out of their way to make sure my 50th birthday was special; in fact, it seemed that the entire hotel knew it was my birthday and wished me a happy birthday! The restaurant is ridiculously expensive, but it is convenient and the food never disappointed. Highlight was booking a boat outing. A day that we will never forget! We saw whales, snorkeled with an octopus, caught some tuna, explored a cave on a secluded beach and had a fabulous picnic lunch. Worth every penny. The concierge also made renting a car for a day seamless and hassle free. If you're looking for a party go elsewhere. If you're looking for a romantic and elegant resort where the staff will make you feel special, this is your place.
