Beautiful Hotel, Amazing Stay!
We just visited the Andaz early April 2021. The place is beautiful. The staff is AMAZING! They have three beautiful infinity pools for families. They also have an adults only pool area. The beach located on the property is ok, unfortunately it has a lot of trees so its not your typical relaxing beach but our kids enjoyed playing in the sand and its shaded well if you are looking for that. However, we just took the 5 minute boat ride to their other beach and enjoyed paddle boarding, kayaking and laying in the sun! You can also access the nature center from there too! They had live music on the green space near the lobby one night, and great kids activities. The food was great! They have three restaurants, Tapas was great, and Bongo is your causal low key restaurant, and Ostra make sure to make a reservation for here or you wont just get in at any time. The howler monkeys were right out off the balcony on the trees most days the kids loved this! Our stay was memorable (thank you concierge for all their help with excursions) but I cant stress how amazing the whole staff was, and they will go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need, and that you are happy!
This is easily one of my favorite hotels in the world. Literally. We have been quite a few times now and are never disappointed. The property is absolutely beautiful and they keep adding new amenities every time we come. The complementary e-bikes are our favorite recent new addition because you can explore the whole area! This was our first trip in over a year since COVID and it was the right decision. We were able to enjoy our vacation and feel super safe thanks to the staff and all the procedures they have in place. Speaking of the staff... wow. They’re all amazing. Always so happy to accommodate and chat for a bit. Costa Ricans are so kind anyway but they really go above and beyond here. Bottom line-if you’re looking for a relaxing and unique beach vacation, this is the spot.
Great hotel, service needs improvement
As a loyal globalist Hyatt loyal customer we booked the best room but didn’t feel the service worth what we paid for. Don’t get me wrong, it is still a great hotel( that is why I gave four-star review) with fantastic amenities.
Everything Good Until The End
Was here for three nights earlier this month. The property is located on a fenced off peninsula about 30 minutes from Liberia airport. I've been bouncing around Costa Rica for about two weeks prior to this and the weather is definitely more on the hot and arid side on the coast here. The rooms are modern and the beaches, while not quite picturesque white sand and debris-less, are unique in their own sense. Plenty of monkeys swinging around the trees and iguanas crawling on the ground while you're walking towards it. My only complaint was the checkout process on the last day. The resort is located vertically on the side of a steep hill and we were in building #5 - the furthest away from the lobby with the highest change in uphill elevation when working towards the lobby. We called the front desk to ask for a golf cart to take us to the lobby for checkout about an hour beforehand. When the time comes, no one shows up. We wait 10 minutes and see a resort employee walk by. We ask him if he could call a cart for us and he says ok with a smile. Then he tells us the cart is on its way. Another ten minutes later and still no cart in sight. We finally decided to walk since we had a shuttle waiting for us at the lobby. Normally, this would be a pretty good exercise. But considering it was 95 degrees outside and we had suitcases with us, it came off as more of a stranded in a desert feeling. After 10 minutes in the hot sun, we spot a golf cart going toward the lobby at the final hill and they were gracious enough to give us a lift for the remainder 30 yards. I guess a little help is better than nothing. I sent a message through hyatt.com commenting on this suitcase safari experience and never heard back. O well
How do you sum up a trip to paradise....
I don’t even know where to begin my review of this exceptional property. From the moment you arrive at the resort you are truly treated like a family member. The entire staff is friendly, welcoming and happy to assist you at any moment. The concierge/front desk team from pre-arrival to departure will be there to assist you with any questions you may have or booking any activities either on-site or off-site. The grounds are impeccably landscaped and the property does a wonderful job of blending itself into the natural landscape. You truly notice that at night when the other resorts in the are are bright with light pollution, the Andaz flawlessly blends in with the flora and fauna. The rooms are decorated nicely with local art and live flowers and keep up with the overall motif of the hotel. The restaurants are exceptional and before eating every meal the staff inquires of any dietary restrictions and/or food allergies one may have. The breakfast buffet at Rio Bhongo is filling and you will most likely want to eat kgs of the tamal de elote (sweet corn tamales) and the queque de banana (banana cake). For lunch and dinner at Ostra or Chao Pesco I would leave it up to the staff to decide for me and their recommendations were spot on at every meal. (The ensalada bon goûtt at Chao Pesco will leave you googling how to make this tasty salad dressing!). The pool areas are relaxing and offer serene views of the bay. If you are lucky, you will be joined by some white faced monkeys while laying out (Just watch your lunch!). The adults only pool near Ostra is a relaxing and quiet atmosphere whereas the main pool area by Rio Bhongo is more lively. The Andaz beach house over at Sombero Claro is fantastic with a plethora of included activities to enjoy in such as; paddle boarding, snorkeling & kayaking. The on-property paid activities offered by the resort are great. The sunrise kayaking tour around the bay is a great way to see some of the varying species of birds, fish, monkeys & iguanas as well as the amazing geography of snake bay. The gentleman who was my guide (his name escapes me) possesses such knowledge of the local area as well as the geography and varying wildlife in the area. This brings me to Luis and the barista class. WHAT. A. TREAT! If you drink coffee you MUST take this class. The depth of passion and knowledge possessed by Luis for his craft is amazing. You will truly be left speechless by the array of coffee knowledge he will bestow upon you. You have never truly experienced a proper cup of coffee until you take this class. I would have to bet you will not leave the country without a chorreador. The weekend cookout El Jardin was great with a very good band, various food stations and a craft cocktail station. They also have a few local vendors set up as well offering handmade local crafts. One of my favorite things about this resort is their devotion to sustainability. The in-room water bottles are glass rather than plastic and they have water filling stations throughout the property. Do not expect a straw unless you ask and if you get one it is bamboo. But in all reality do you really need one? My one and only criticism of the property is that I had to leave. The Andaz Costa Rica has become my new favorite vacation destination and I look forward to coming back as soon as possible. PURA VIDA to the entire team there! In regards to COVID-19. Your bags are sanitized at arrival and your temperature is taken during check-in. The entire property has QR codes one can scan with your phone for covid testing, activities, the resort map, and menus at the restaurants. The have hand sanitizer at every table in the restaurants and stations set up throughout the property. The ENTIRE staff wears masks at all times (kudos to them). Scheduling and taking your COVID-19 test (if required) is very easy and results are emailed to you within 24 hours. (Mine took around 5 hours). They offer both the Antigen test & the PCR test on site.
