Typical Andaz quirkiness, another unique property. Let's get this out of the way, it's hot. And humid. Definitely tropical, you're going to sweat the moment you walk out the door of your room. We were here one week after reopening after 7 months closed and while there were some bits and pieces of the stay not perfect, the overall takeaway was let them know and they'll fix it. Everyone was quite obviously genuinely thrilled to welcome guests again, and be back to work (so as to be able to feed their families). The room was great if a bit dated, property was amazing. Restaurant experiences, breakfast and dinners, at all three venues, was overall 10/10 with some hiccups being made up for in following visits. The ceviche and mixology classes were fun, very educational, and the hosts were very competent and welcoming. Housekeeping was excellent and turndown was available for the asking. Wife and I enjoyed our stay here very much. Pura Vida! ;-)
Amazing in all times, safe in pandemic times
This was our third visit to Andaz Papagayo. What a remarkable property in an idyllic location. Food, pool, beach, relaxation, incredible interaction with wildlife is always the headline here. In our most recent visit, the pandemic was in full swing. Everyone from the General Manager to every member of the staff (wait staff, groundskeepers, housekeeping, front desk) completely bought into an excellent protocol for keeping everyone safe. We were extremely impressed with this commitment.
Of course the highlight of this resort is the organic nature of the architecture and the continuously smiling and pleasing staff. Rooms have a water view which rises from the lush tropical fauna....with frequent visits from the capuchin monkeys who inhabit the resort. PLEASE KEEP YOUR SLIDER CLOSED!! I was joined by monkeys twice while showering! Food and cocktails all stellar....5 star perfection! All in all a perfectly romantic getaway.
Beautiful and relaxing resort
We stayed at the Andaz for 4 nights in December 2019 and loved every second. Our room was booked as part of a vacation package but the property was very generous to honor our Globalist benefits anyways. They put us in a Bay View room with an amazing view and balcony. It had plenty of space for the two of us. We love how Andaz makes most of the minibar free and would go out of our way to try all the different snacks offered. It's a nice touch how they have a black hat and white hat in each room (their beaches are named 'black hat' and 'white hat' in Spanish). Staff was very friendly and always went the extra step to make us comfortable. We did the cocktail making class with Javier Piña and had an amazing time. He is such a talented bartender but an even more talented and driven individual. I hope that Hyatt gives him a role with more impact so other hotel bars can operate like his. Food and beverage was excellent at the resort. We were glad they had several options given how there are no outside restaurants nearby. Breakfast buffet is excellent and if you're lucky you might see some of the capuchins stealing sugar packets from the empty tables! We will definitely return but only after having a chance to visit the eastern part of Costa Rica. It's challenging to visit typical Costa Rican tourist activities such as hot springs, sloths or coffee tours because of the resort's remote location. Thank you for such a great stay!
A wonderful vacation
We stayed at Andaz for a week. This is the nicest resort we have stayed at, from the personal checkin, the way the staff remember your name, the hats, flip flops in the room and sunscreen available at the pools and beach. The beach is smaller and has lots of trees, but this suited me and I loved the natural feel of the beach. It was never crowded and it was easy to get a paddle board or kayak and a shady lounger. This is a far stretch from the crowded Mexican beaches where everyone is roasting in the sun and drinking themselves to a stupor. This is not a spring break crowd hotel, but perfect for families and couples interested in more. The resort, like the country is eco friendly, bamboo straws, 5 stream waste recycling. The staff are amazing, and work hard to make it a great experience. The barista class is excellent, Luis is so passionate about coffee and his country, it was an excellent learning experience and so much fun. The ceviche class was ok, there is a language barrier which made it a bit awkward. This is a hilly resort, lots of stairs which helped me get all my steps in every day! Will be back for sure.
