This hotel has it all - great location, friendly English-speaking staff, beautifully designed lobby, comfortable rooms with in-room tea, coffee, and water, delicious breakfast buffet, and so much more! Highly recommend!
Watch TV while having a bath is a nice touch
I note a couple of reviews suggesting the beauty of this place is only skin deep. Yes, you can tell some of the furnishings and decor are a bit dated but I figured that is what its supposed to be and the charm of the place - The Tibet. We stayed for 2 nights on an Odynovo private tour and we had three in the room so it was a touch squeezy but for a couple it would be plenty of space. The TV on a revolving base so you can watch it in the room or in the bathroom was quite a novelty. I also note some issues with the service - we did not encounter any such issue. The front desk staff we quite helpful. I would he happy to stay here again.
Tired old Girl
When you pull up and enter this well located hotel, one has high hopes. When you take the make-up off the old girl, she is rode hard and hung up wet. This is clearly now a group tour hotel so why bother to spruce her up? Tour groups stay a day or two and move on, never to see Chengdu again. Room size was adequate, but the-room smelled disgustingly of mildew and was very damp. As we are on a 23 day odyssey, we hand washed some travel clothes meant to dry overnight and two days later still damp. Furniture is dated, dirty, faded chipped, cracked and on and on. Breakfast is plenty adequate if you can find a table. Just not up to my pretty limited standards and mildew is simply unacceptable.
Chengdu Tibet hotel was good choice to overnight in Chengdu. Hotel is good located. Room was big, spacious and clean. We got nice friendly attentions on our arrival. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious and well maintained. Meals in hotels restaurant were delicious and variety of food was great. It was nice that beverages and beer were included in the price. We loved our stay in Chengdu Tibet hotel also because of friendly and kind staff.
First impressions didn’t last.
The hotel is beautifully decorated in the Tibetan style and promises a lot when you first see it. Unfortunately there are a few issues with the hotel that bely these first impressions. The service is hit and miss. One of our friends we were travelling with was “mocked” at the reception in Chinese and made to feel very uncomfortable. The overall level of spoken English in the hotel was poor - every other hotel we stayed at had a relatively good level of a English. The staff at reception seemed disinterested and were happy to chat amongst themselves instead of providing a service. The restaurant staff were much better and smiled and greeted us with genuine warmth. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast was well laid out with a good choice for all palates. We had a massage in the hotel spa which was reasonably priced and got rid of all the tension and knots!! Overall, it seems a shame that the promise of the hotel is squandered by poor service at reception (which is your first point of contact) and it isn’t somewhere I would choose to stay again.
