Satisfied with my stay
2-night stay with friend Upside: (1) Got a great rate due to an Accor/Fairmont promotion. Room was good value for money at this rate. Discount adequately compensated for the fact that certain facilities (e.g. restaurants) were closed due to the Covid situation. (2) Daily "resort fee" includes rental of certain sports equipment e.g. snowshoes, skates, hockey sticks. Weather permitting, snowshoeing can be done on the hotel's golf course, the hotel has two ice rinks near the main building and there was a slope set up for tubing/sledding. The hotel also has a heated outdoor pool, that we didn't use. (3) Good quality toiletries. Downside: (1) Due to the restaurants being closed, only room service was available. While the food was acceptable, there wasn't really anywhere set up for 2 people to eat in the room. We had to eat off the coffee table, while sitting on a writing desk chair and a footstool. (2) Due to an IT glitch, booking for this rate could only be done via the Fairmont website, not the Accor website.
I brought my mother here on a mini getaway to celebrate her birthday. The grounds and view are stunning. Lots of place to sit outside and enjoy the view. The interior is very typical old grand style..but not stuffy or snobby. Most guests were in jeans and there were quite a few families with children. There is a long history here and we enjoyed the photographs of days past. The room was very comfortable and due to a small maintenance concern we were moved and upgraded to a river view room. We were really happy as the view is beautiful!! The beds and pillows are very comfortable. The bathroom is old but nice...I love old buildings so I enjoy the architecture. I thought the common areas could maybe use a little more detail cleaning..the rugs looked a little tired and beautiful brass in the elevators could have used a good polish. Minor stuff..but I do notice when you are staying in a nice place. The entertainment duo in the lobby on Saturday night was excellent. It did draw a crowd, however, so I''m not sure how long that will be going on for given the covid situation. I felt the covid was handled well in all other respects. We did not eat at the hotel but we had many excellent meals in town. We LOVED Charlevoix and I cant wait to come back.
An hour and a half from Quebec City in Charleroix is this hotel. It has hiking, biking, golf, table games, pool, spa and casino available. There are a couple of amazing restaurants offsite that you can drive to.
Food was gross, Wish I had read the reviews and didn’t book
Me and my wife came here for our honeymoon. We were so excited to book here and expected it to be lovely considering major events like the g7 were booked here. Our biggest complaint was the food. For our first night dinner we ate at the “le saint Laurent” restaurant that was fully booked. We were expecting it to be quite nice. My partner ordered the steak. When it came out, it was tough and overdone. The frys tasted like they were recooked or left under a lamp for At least an hour. Honestly very gross, and not just substandard for the hotel but literally you wouldnt even get that at a McDonald’s. I ordered the trout special. The trout was also overcooked and tasted like it had been mass made and left under warming lights. The mushrooms were burnt (to the point of eating charcoal) and also tasted mass cooked and left out. It was so bizzare, even gas station food wouldn’t be so bad. The server was ok...rushed but polite... I can’t emphasize how poor the food quality was. I kept thinking of the Gordon Ramsay show kitchen nightmares, he needs to visit. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so you don’t have many food choices. There are a few restaurants by the water we wish we ate at. Ordered nachos for as a snack and they were made with some kind of cheap foam cheese..gross The outside Property is nice, but the building itself isn’t maintained well. The rooms are big but have a tiny window with cheap finishes. Our key card stoped working 3 times so had to keep going back to reception. So many little things that made this a poor experience. I wish we had booked somewhere else.... Don’t book here!! Read the other reviews..honestly even a 3 star bnb would be better Ps. I NEVER leave reviews and am very easy going Was in Quebec City at the chateau Frontenac a few days before at that was fine.
5-Star Resort - Room for Improvement
Fairmont - Le Manoir Richelieu's originally constructed in 1899, rebuilt after a fire, and reopened in 1929 is reminiscent of a French Château that overlooks the St. Lawrence River in the picturesque region of Charlevoix offering on-site activities like tennis, snowshoeing, ice skating and golf or relax at the Moment Spa. Overall, staff are friendly but lack the high-class service that is typically expected for this upper-scale Brand. Rooms are over-rated and extremely expensive (Summer 2020) for the quality and room size offered, plus there’s a Resort Fee. For a Five-Star Resort, the Food was acceptable and unimpressive wine list. It’s difficult to imagine that the G7 2018 Summit was hosted here.
