Charming city with an excellent culinary and arts scene

Named for the hill Mount Royal which sits at the heart of the city, Montréal, is a mix of French and Anglo influences, feeling at times more European than North American. Thought by many to be Canada’s cultural capital, the city plays host to an array of festivals, sporting events, museums and galleries.

Montréal holidays - perfect for...

  • Montreal sets the standard for Canadian cuisine, with fine dining restaurants, bakeries, vegan eateries, bagel shops, cafés – and the provincial dish poutine
  • The city is impressively easy to navigate, with colour-codes lampposts and street signs distinguishing each neighbourhood. Cycling is the way to get around here
  • A stay in Montreal is easily combined with city stays in Quebec City, Toronto and Ottawa due to Canada’s reliable and frequent rail network
  • There is a whole part of the city which can’t be found above ground - the underground city features tunnels that stretch for over 20 miles and are lined with shops, bars and restaurants
  • We recommend spending three or four nights in Montreal if you plan to visit two or more cities during your Canadian holiday
