The Ritz Toronto is a great property. We arrived just in time for cocktails and get ready for dinner. Rooms could be a bit better appointment but the view made up for it. Staff was great but I think we have grown a bit spoiled, You are quickly reminded you are not in an European 5 star hotel. Luxurious but a bit “cold”.
Excellent massage and service; facilities need work
My wife and I went for massages at the Spa at the Toronto Ritz Carlton. This was not our first visit, but had been at least a year since our last. Let me say the staff there are wonderful; really attentive and friendly. Our massage therapies were both excellent - the room was comfortable and you pick from a selection of oils. In the waiting area, they treat you to an array of snacks, including yogurt covered pretzels, apples, and chocolates. When our therapists learned it was our anniversary, they served us some champagne and chocolate cake. Wow. I will say I was disappointed with the steam room and the hot tub. Not much steam and the hot tub wasn't hot at all, and I remember this from a previous visit. My wife made the same comment later about the womens - that her hot tub wasn't even as hot as she would make a bath at home. I suspect this may be a cost saving measure, and although the tub looks great, this renders it pretty much unuseable. Since all the temperature controls are locked and covered, there is nothing one can do. I noticed a man asking the attendant to increase the heat, but I didn't have an hour to stick around for the tub to warm up. Too bad, it's a great tub. They have a rainforest shower which I made full use of, and they supply razors, combs, etc. The place was very clean. On checkout, an automatic 18% gratuity had been added. Having been to the Four Seasons Spa and some others in Toronto, I don't think I've ever seen this except at the Ritz. I am a generous tipper, but I think the decision should be left to me or other clients of the spa on how much they want to tip. I imagine there's been some awkard conversations around their practice of automatically adding a tip. I think if the steam room was hotter, and the hot tub at the correct temperature, I would consider returning more often. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time there but these things, had they been done right, would have made the experience absolutely perfect.
I stayed here for 5 nights - it was excellent. Spa very pricey but had wonderful facial & massage so would use again. All staff we encountered were super friendly & helpful - particularly the lady concierge (Elaine I think?). It’s definitely more of a “business style” Ritz than other Ritzs I’ve stayed in but it has an excellent location and wonderful staff - can’t fault it & will definitely stay again.
Tremendous property with attentive service
Recently stayed at this property for a conference and it was certainly a treat. Ritz Carlton knows how to satisfy every need. The staff were incredibly friendly especially in the bar & restaurants. The fitness room was fantastic and the Peloton bikes were a treat. My only complaint was during check in. As a Platinum guest I would have expected my profile information to have been considered, sadly neither of my two main requests were met at check in. There was zero recognition of my Platinum stays either. I recognize Ritz Carlton is a luxuryl brand but I still feel recognition of a heavy business traveler loyal to a brand should be considered.
Impressive first time Ritz hotel visit
Didn’t know what to expect as normally stay with a rival name. We can honestly say we’ve never experienced such warmth, willingness to please and interesting conversations. The whole Lounge staff are fantastic. Robyn, Olga, Marco and Molene all readily brought our preferred cuppas or tipples to us on arrival in the lounge. The breakfast is excellent and the lunch too. Afternoon tea is just a few snacks but the canapés are varied and tasty. The full bar is available all day long too. Priscilla the concierge manager for the club also gave great advice to us regarding our sightseeing. The views from the club lounge are excellent of the CN Tower and location is good for sightseeing and getting around. Rooms are spacious and very clean. We had trouble (being British!) in turning the lamps off in our room on the first night but some kind soul from housekeeping rescued us. We were sad to leave to go to Niagara but the wonderful picnic Olga and Molene provided us with was a really sweet and thoughtful touch. This won’t be our last Ritz visit - in fact we’ve now booked to stay at the New Orleans Ritz hotel at the end of our Mississippi cruise in a week’s time. Let’s hope it’s just as good!
