I'd like to review the one thing I felt was important, cleaning! while the hotel did a great job cleaning we couldn't help notice that Adam went above and beyond the expectations that we had become accustomed to. He noted the amount people and thoroughly cleaned all of outside furniture, he was attentive and polite. Great Job thank you Adem.
Nice hotel, but some issues
Stayed in a junior king suite. Nice room. My toddler appreciated the large tv. Wife thought it was a classy place. It is a nice hotel. I had requested a scent free room due to terrible allergies to the chemicals used. The window (balcony door) was not left open as promised, and we could immediately smell the scents in the room. It's possible they use febreeze or similar in the rooms and this would linger to the next guest's stay. Hard for them to control, I understand. However, it seems to be an issue with Marriott properties more than others. Even with my own bedding (from home) and the balcony wide open all night, I was feeling sick from the fragrance. They were nice enough to allow us a late check-out the following day so we could take our toddler for ice cream in the village prior to checking out. When we returned to have lunch and gather our things, they had locked us out of the room. Not good when you have stressed and tired parents and a toddler that needs to pee. Upon phoning the front desk, I was offered no apology, and wear told it would be a while before a bellman could come up to let us in. Completely unacceptable in my opinion. During covid, having to hang out in the hall with no sense of urgency from this hotel. Sitting on the floor in the hallway like refugees. So much for my wife thinking we are having a high class weekend. To top it off. I got a parking ticket, after paying $35 to park for 24 hrs and being told "anywhere on p3 or p4." Apparently the small print on the stall I was lucky enough to find said "2 hours" in faded small font." To their credit, they promised to email the parking company and void the ticket. Fingers crossed that works out. For many, this is a good hotel. Just don't expect 4 star service. And if you have scent sensitivities, go elsewhere. I will be cancelling my Marriott bonvoy amex card and avoiding these properties since they are unfortunately unable to accommodate this issue.
People that care - about your wellbeing as much as your health
In times of COVID we all need a Get Away every now and then and the Westin Whistler has proven to be a perfect choice for ours. The hotel has the COVID 19 protocols perfectly in place while still keeping service at the highest level. We felt safe and well cared for at all times. Every staff we interacted with was absolutely wonderful - knowledgeable, helpful and caring. Check in was smooth and attentive - including a personal tour of our suite! We had dinner at the bar and enjoyed the fantastic (!) Pizzas (maybe best in town?) Ahi Tuna tacos and truffle fries. Breakfast was lovely as well (Avocado Toast) and service was super attentive and friendly. Bonvoy Titanium Benefit included breakfast ordered from the menu and made us feel very appreciated. I especially enjoyed that it wasn't the usual "nickel and dime" mentality, where the benefit includes item A but not item B.... All in all we had a great time and are looking forward to being back soon. Special shout outs to the staff that made our time so special (sorry that we didn't get all your names): Thierry, Liddy and Grant - thanks so much!!! :)
Doggie Deluxe!!! 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
What can I say this place is truly doggie deluxe to the max, and I give it 10 out of 10 paws 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾!!! If you want to get in your furbaby’s good books, and spoil her/him to a very special treat, you’ve got to stay here!! As you know the Westin is known for their Heavenly beds for humans, well when you come and stay at the Westin Whistler Resort and Spa, you get one of your very own to lounge and sleep on during your stay (which is very hard to get off of BTW)! Also, you are truly treated like royalty, and spoiled by their PAWesome team - lots of licks to Annabelle, Andrew M., Andrew W. for making me feel like a princess! @BijouThePom xo 🐶 👑🐾
Third and last super upsetting experience with the Westin Whistler
If your looking for real customer service and a super safe Covid vacation... this is not where you want to be....it’s well with the extra money to stay at the Fairmont instead...we arrived on a Friday for a one night stay for our girlfriends 40th birthday surprise, I had requested earlier in the week that we be allocated to a low level two bedroom suite ( mountain walk out access) which I had stayed in years before, at first being told they did not exist?...after replying that unless they had renovated I was not mistaken and had in-fact stayed in said unit years prior, I was told they did have The two bedroom suite I was referring to and they would put the request in for me...(also please note I have a standing note on my member profile for low floor preference)...upon arrival, we checked in with the Hotel manager who informed us we were on the top floor and it was an upgrade?? I immediately reiterated my request for the low floor suite to which the manager responded.. “ we don’t have any two bedrooms on that level” ?? After asking him to check my file and the responses from his own concierge to prove there was in fact a two bedroom suite on that level, he replied “ oh there is a two bedroom on the that level but it is occupied by a longer stay client” so now the suite does exist?! But you gave it to another client? I asked when they had checked in and he said two days prior ( two days after my request for that specific suite)...this was not the catalyst to our experience, next we were informed of their ridiculous pool booking policy for Co-vid... you have to wait until 8pm ( the same time our birthday dinner reservations were booked for) to go online and book a time for the pool for the FOLLOWING day?? And it was first come first serve... meaning... absolutely no pool access our first day and only a slim chance we could get one before checking out the next day???? ie, no guarantee we one can even access the pool in a 24 hour stay... which for four mothers was one of our main reasons for going away ( to relax by the pool)... I explained how ridiculous their system was, and that one is not given any inkling when booking that this is the process, I am all for safety and distancing at hotels during covid and the first to comply but I still expect as a paying customer to be given access to the facilities at some point in our stay... two bedroom suites are not cheap! Since we were at the beginning of a birthday surprise, we didn’t want to ruin the day so went ahead begrudgingly with checking in to the complete opposite of what we asked for room and the extremely lacking pool reservation system... this is where it got a whole lot worse... upon arrival to our room, we discovered a door to the patio which was broken and wouldn’t open, the room which was supposed to be covid sanitized was anything but, there were smudges from make up or some sort of residue on the bathroom mirror, toilet paper left in the toilet, finger prints all over the drawers in the fridge and strange residue on the closet doors... none an indication that any cleaning had really been done, let alone the extra precautions for covid that one would expect... we brought this all to the managers attention and asked for a new room to which we were refused so we did what we should have in the first place, asked for a full refund and called up to the Fairmont ( where I usually stay) to ask them to help us save our girlfriends special day.... they did just that!! Upon arrival at the Fairmont, we found their Covid safety standards well above and beyond that of the Westin’s...we were given full health reviews and temperature scans, issued wellness cards for our stay and told we could immediately reserve a time for both days of our stay to utilize the pool facilities... as usual, above and beyond in service...As a further bonus, our room was impeccably clean! Just some of the many reasons I’ll never stay anywhere but the Fairmont in Whistler again.... the Westin has had too many chances with me and is a constant disappointment! Save your holiday and your health and go for the Fairmont!
