Going to Whistler? This is where you want to be!
We were dropped off by the Whistler Connection airport shuttle (we highly recommend them, too : ) after midnight, which meant our bodies thought it was past 3am. Recognizing how tired we were, the front desk staff quickly and politely powered our check-in through and thoughtfully offered to help with our luggage which we didn’t require but, was greatly appreciated. The next day we discovered a problem in our unit that the maintenance staff member was unable to resolve so, we were effortlessly moved into a replacement room for the remainder of our almost 2-week stay.
Our 1-bedroom suite was amazing . . .
Full kitchen – table with 4 chairs, stove, fridge, microwave, kettle, dishwasher, coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, etc. (Hint: instead of complaining in a review after you check out, try calling the front desk for an item you may need – the Delta Whistler team resolved a pot related issue in about 5 minutes. Thank you again !!)
Living room – gas fireplace, 55” tv, couch, comfy chair, a desk with chair, and a table that hides the extra sheets and blankets for the couch bed. (Hint: the 2 square table tops are designed to flip over – soft side is an ottoman / hard side is a table top)
Bathroom – a previous reviewer complained that you can’t adjust the shower head?? (Hint: based on the 2 rooms we were in - turn the round knob beside the shower head wand to loosen it / move the shower head up or down the pole to desired height / tighten the knob to hold in place / also, the shower head is hinged to aim towards the front or back of the tub)
Bedroom – bed(s) have a small reading light on the headboard, bedside table, tv, a half dresser designed to hold your suitcase open on top, full length mirror, and a closet that has extremely handy cubbies down the one side. (Hint: leaving the thermostat fan in the “On” position provides a great white noise while you sleep)
The washer, dryer, iron, and ironing board in the room meant we didn’t need to over-pack for our trip = less luggage, lighter luggage, and reduced plane luggage fees.
As past reviewers have noted, parts of the carpet in the rooms seem to be struggling. It looks like it is quite thin and isn’t holding up very well in high traffic areas or where the transition strips meet the tile. Not reason enough to complain but, hopefully something that is dealt with, sooner than later.
We didn’t use the pool so that there was more time available for the kids and young couples in the hotel. COVID policies currently translate into reduced pool availability – visitors and reviewers need to just get over it. The current international COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting rules are in place because of government restrictions that are there for our safety. Don’t like it?? . . . don’t travel. You are as annoying as people who go to internationally sought after destination resorts like Whistler and complain about it being too expensive?!? Want cheap food?? . . . stay home. And finally, to be late checking out for your already generously given late check-out time, and then complain about “horrible service” ?? I’m pretty sure their hotels won’t miss you and your big one-night, mid-week, pandemic-discounted stays “CT from Vancouver” !
Getting back on track . . . the hotel is within a 5 minute walk to super restaurants like Peaked Pies, Splitz Grill, and the Tandoori Grill and, if you plan on using your kitchen, the Fresh St. Market grocery store has everything you’ll need. The hotel also has immediate access to the stores along the pedestrian pathway that leads to the Olympic Park for skating at the one end, and the ski hills at the other end.
There is a small ski shop on site, next to the hotel lobby – this is where you store your skis / board when you aren’t on the slopes. The young men and women in here were fantastic – always happy to help with a smile on their face (under their masks : )
We also can’t thank Alex enough for happily and diligently dealing with a small disaster in our room, one of our nights.
Jorge was always a pleasure to talk to while he was safely shuttling us from the hotel to the base of the ski hill. (I’m pretty sure we interrupted his lunch at least once but, he would never admit it to us : )
And, saving the best for last . . . we would need to pull out our thesaurus to find enough words to describe how incredible Kim really is. While all of the staff at the front desk truly seem to care about their guests, Kim was the one who obviously drew the short straw – usually getting stuck with handling our questions or concerns. Kim’s hard work and dedication to her tasks is clearly results oriented and was always accompanied by her wonderful demeanour and a smile. Thank-you, Kim, for helping to make this vacation one of our best. (Final Hint: Treat Kim well, Delta – she’s destined for greatness !!)
Wherever you may end up . . . hope you have a great trip – like we did !
