Great location, great pool and thin walls
We stayed at The Westin Bayshore for eight nights in the month of August. The hotel is located in beautiful Coal Harbour. We had a room looking at the outdoor swimming pool and marina. Because of Covid, housekeeping staff are not allowed to enter your room to clean or make your bed. If you need clean towels or sheets, you have to notify the front desk and they will leave them outside your door. We also left the garbage bins of the room and washroom outside in the hallway a few times so they could be emptied out. We knew this beforehand so it was not a surprise. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel but the only issue was that during two consecutive nights, we were able to hear people talking and laughing until 5:00 AM (in the room beside ours) and another night a couple making moaning noises on and off through the night. It was quite annoying actually. The walls are thin at this hotel. The indoor pool and gym are closed because of Covid so it is the main restaurant. The outdoor pool was great but it was really busy during the weekend (no beds to lay on). On Friday, Sat and Sunday you had to reserve your stay at the pool. You were only able to stay there for two hours max. The hotel is located very close to Stanley Park (10 mins walk), Canada Place (12 mins walk) and Robson Street (15 mins walk). You can rent bicycles outside the hotel, there is an Urban Fare supermarket really close (there is a fridge in the room for drinks) and a lot of restaurants in the area. I’m not sure if I would stay here again as it can get quite noisy depending who is sleeping nearby your room. The views from the hotel are really nice though and the location is great.
Terrible Service, zero amenities
We visited the Bayshore at the beginning of August. It was not our first time at this property. We love the location and views of the harbor. We were travelling with our 17 year old son so I decided to book a junior suite for some extra room/privacy. The price of the suite was subtantially higher than a regular harbour view room so I called to make sure that there were junior suites available with harbour views and was told there were. We arrived later in the evening and the hotel was like a ghost town. There is no bellman to direct you and only one single check in desk at the front doors. The welcome was far from warm and when I asked about our view I was told that all junior suites were in the interior corridor looking over the pool. I asked if there was any opportunity for an upgrade since our reason for booking this hotel was the view and she said no. We lugged all of our items (we brought our bikes as well) to our reserved room to find that it was at the innermost corner of the building overlooking a rooftop. This certainly was not what I was expecting for $350.00 in the midst of covid in a hotel that was clearly empty. I immediately went back to the front check in kiosk and explained that I was not happy with this room and would like to have another. The less than friendly agent left the kiosk to speak with her manager only to return and inform me that this was the room I paid for. I explained that I had called and specifically asked if this category of room had harbour views and was told they did. After much debate the night manager appeared and finally offerred us a harbour view room in the tower. The catch however, was that our 17 year old 6ft tall son would have to sleep on a cot with his feet hanging over the end. At that point we just wanted to get to bed so we accepted. We once again lugged all of our items to the new room which had a lovely view but had been stripped of all the amenities that you would expect in a 4 star hotel. No coffee maker, no bath robes, no iron, no bar items and oddly enough NO handsoap!! I understand removing some touchpoints but when you are informed that housekeeping would not be entering your room for the duration of your stay you expect to have a supply of amenities that will last said duration. When we returned home I received a survey of our stay. I explained what had happened and said that my husband and I were returning to Vancouver at the end of the month for our anniversary but were reluctant to book into the bayshore again. I received no reply. So....we booked the Fairmont Waterfront for less than what we had paid at the Bayshore. We had fantastic service and full room amenities. Cleary, the Fairmont appreciates the fact that people are hesitant to travel to begin with so they wow them with their service. The tired Bayshore could take a lesson or two from them.
Covid 19 Break Trip Downtown Vancouver
The Westin Bayshore is my preferred go to hotel in the heart of downtown Vancouver by the most beautiful and spectacular Stanley Park. I had a wonderful time poolside and the staff were working so hard to accommodate everybody who was visiting on that weekend. They made it fun, with reduced staff available. Some amenities were not open, naturally, and management were running a pretty tight ship - but apart from having to carry my own luggage upstairs and also not being able to have any room service during the pandemic, it was a fun and relaxing trip. Do not expect first class service during a pandemic! Staff are already really stressed to the max trying to be accommodating - If you are a go with the flow person, that can adapt and be amenable to change , you will like this property and the experience the Westin Bayshore offers.
Why pay more for meh?
If you are fortunate enough to have a room pool side, you’ll get to listen to screaming children all day long. They even have contests where they’ll line the children up just to see who can make the loudest splash. Great way to spend your vacation! The staff could also care less if you wanted to change rooms, and won’t even bother to call you back. Last, if you want a coffee in the morning, you’re out of luck until 6:30am, since they’ve removed the coffee maker from the rooms. I had to pay $11.00 for a coffee from Uber Eats. Why would you pay more for this place, it’s just obnoxious.
Poor service, good location
Nice location, great views! but: - No help with luggages to the room (doorman claims he can't touch luggages but he can touch your car keys!... and he is wearing gloves?!) -Dirty bathroom doors (see picture) -"Upgrade from kingbed to 2 double beds?!" We never asked for that and no other options available. -No accessible outdoor pool unless reservations due to covid pandemic. So be prepared. -No free parking (41$/night vs free on street) Quite disappointing service but suggested if looking for a good location.
