Fun and relaxing family staycation!!
We stayed at the Westin mainly so the kids can go swimming. The Westin has 2 pools, indoor and outdoor, and both are heated. The indoor pool does get booked up fairly quickly but we were able to book a 1-hour timeslot each day of our stay. The indoor pool is pretty warm and there is a hot tub. We tried the outdoor pool as well. Water was really warm but it was cold when you got out, so better for warmer days. A nice surprise for us was the complimentary bike rentals. We didn't think they would have any kids bikes but they were able to find bikes for all 4 of us including helmets for the kids as well. They were really nice comfy bikes and we enjoyed riding them around Stanley park and Coal Harbour. So much so we took the bikes out again the following day. We had an upper floor tower room with a nice view of Coal Harbour and Stanley Park. The beds were comfortable and bathroom was nicely sized with a great shower that I really enjoyed. Due to indoor dining restrictions the hotel had set up a pop up dining area in the front of the hotel and we had breakfast there twice. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable since it was still quite chilly even with the heat lamps. We didn't try the other restaurants in the hotel this time but the globes in the H tasting lounge looked amazing. Cardero and Lift are both steps away from the hotel but we didn't manage to get a spot with only patio open for dining. For our lunches and dinners we walked to Denman/Robson area where there were many fun and interesting restaurants to try. Chungchun rice hotdogs always had long line ups but the hot dogs were nothing special according to my kids. Kintaro ramen is as good as I remembered. Not sure if it was a special Easter-only thing but they had fancy goodie bags for the kids in the lobby everyday, cupcakes and Easter eggs, cotton candy, and hot cross bun and mini donut. There was even a special goodie bag left on our door with cookies and chocolates for Easter Sunday. The kids got really spoiled and thought it was the best weekend ever! Overall you can't beat the Westin for location and amenities in the Coal Harbour area. Everyone was so nice and friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. We highly recommend the Westin and look forward to staying there again!!
Really Nice Staycation
Not having been able to travel for the past year due to COVID-19, I decided to book a local staycation at the Westin Bayshore. They had a special CAA rate that included a $50 dining credit per night, so taking that into account, I thought it was a really good deal. I booked online, and used my membership suite upgrade requests to get myself a Panoramic Tower Suite on the 19th floor. Looking at the floorplan and the layout of the space, it looks like it was originally two separate rooms which they decided to put together to sell as a suite. One side has a bedroom with king bed and bathroom, and the other room is a living area with sofa bed and it's own bathroom. Both rooms has their separate balconies overlooking Coal Harbour which I really enjoyed. The bedroom had a perfect view across to Stanley Park so I could see the 9 o'clock gun go off at night, which I haven't seen for ages. Suite is equipped with a safe, mini fridge, and a TV in each room. Temperature controls worked really well and very responsive. And being on the 19th floor, I've never had hot water come out so quickly at the sink and in the shower. Upgraded Wi-Fi for elite members was measured to be about 50Mbps, which is very fast. The only small issues I had was one TV remote was more difficult than normal to use, and there was a late night noise issue from a neighbouring suite (but I think the hotel staff dealt with it within 15 minute) before I even got to reporting it. One of the reasons I booked this hotel is that it had two pools, which my kids loved. The indoor pool has a reservation system. Weekdays is for 1.5 hour timeslots, and you request the key from the front desk. On weekends (Fri-Sun) the timeslots is reduced to 1hr, and an attendant is at the entrance of the indoor pool to manage the reservations. No reservations are needed for the outdoor pool, and the water is heated and very warm. My kids preferred the outdoor pool as it was bigger and warmer. Service was quite good. Front desk staff at check-in was very informative. Some staff went out of their way to greet me while I walked through the hallways. We went to H Tasting Lounge for dinner once, and H2 for breakfast twice. I did separate reviews for them. Food and service is OK, but not special. I'm glad I had the dining credits for dinner, and my elite status for breakfast. The location of this hotel has its strength and weaknesses. The water views are really nice, and it's located so close to Stanley Park (and the hotel provides complimentary 2-hr bike rentals). However, other than the average dining options in the hotel, and the very expensive dining options just outside on the sea wall, you need to walk up to Denman to find some more affordable dining options. And my wife pointed out that there isn't much shopping in the immediate area either. Even the in-hotel gift shop is tiny and only operates on the weekend. Overall, it was really nice staycation. I really enjoyed the suite we got, and wonderful views of Coal Harbour, and the relaxing feel of being in a resort. If I had family/friends visiting Vancouver, I would definitely suggest this hotel.
Stayed Feb 19-2021 Very good experience. Highly recommended. - Check-in service by Geoffrey was excellent. He was very professional nice, and answered all our questions. gave us an unexpected perk which was amazing. - The only critiques would be that HABOUR VIEW suite is backwards. In order to see the harbour and mountains, you have to stand at the window. The bed, desk and chair all face the highrises. So the price for the suite should be the same price as the City View suite. * Also the Swimmeng pool does not have a change room, only a universal washroom w/shower. - Breakfast is 5 star
The Westin Bayshore is a perfect hotel for a couples getaway . The rooms , restaurants , service and location are amazing . We stayed here for 1 night during covid and it was clean. we felt totally safe . The best item was the staff . We overpaid for the parking and Meghan at the front desk emailed the parking for a refund . I was so impressed with Meghan . It’s this type of service that keeps me as a Titanium Platinum member. 3 things I loved about the hotel: - the location: the sea wall is so close by - rooms are comfy and large - breakfast at the hotel was superb and dinner in the lounge was great ( make a reservation during happy hour) I can’t wait to go back and stay at my favourite Vancouver hotel! PS if you are planning a stay in Vancouver , I would highly recommend this hotel . The location is right on the water. I would also recommend to upgrade to room 815 which is a full harbour view .
Westin Bayshore, you did it!
We enjoyed a lovely "staycation" with a promo offered through Mariott Bonvoy which included overnight parking, and a $50 gift card for dining in the hotel. A complimentary upgrade to a room with a view was greatly appreciated. Happy hour in the H lounge was delicious as was our breakfast the next day in the dining room. Servers were pleasant and on the ball. Special mention to Renee at the front desk who saved the day opening our bottle of wine (housekeeping sent up a corkscrew that appeared to be from a dollar store.) Jeffrey from the front desk quickly got extra towels and soap sent up to our room when requested. We used the pool and fitness centre following procedures in place and in general found other guests were following procedures as well. We are VERY picky when it comes to Customer Service and we are giving a very rare A+ to the Westin Bayshore for this experience.
