A little disappointed with Pan Pacific. Overall the room was pretty good. The view was incredible. It was clean and the bed is comfy. It’s a little older but still in pretty good shape. The young lady checking us in was very kind and helpful. She was the only one that was nice and made us feel welcome. Both my wife and I have been treated so poorly from this point on. I had to go back to the reception desk and ask for some information and the young man treated me like an idiot for asking. My wife also went over and asked a question and was treated poorly as well. The next day we were going out for a walk and it was raining and I forgot my umbrella so I asked the concierge at the front door for an umbrella as they have them behind the desk and his response was “ You do know you have one in your room”. Gee thanks for that. I am so sorry for the inconvenience you was my thought. The staff just make you feel like you are a bother to them. We had a couple of other interactions with the staff and similar in counters. My wife and I always go out of our way to be kind to people and treat people the way we want to be treated, I truly believe this hotel just has a poor culture and the employees reflect that. Pan Pacific is not the most expensive but not the cheapest and I would expect a level of service that would be at least welcoming and make you feel comfortable while staying at the hotel. If you want to be treated kindly and respected this probably isn’t the best place to stay.
It was a wonderful night with my two grandsons. Swimming at the pool, having breakfast and just relaxing. The hotel location was great. We were able to walk around the sea wall, watch Harbour Air take off and arrive and enjoy downtown Vancouver. Thank you
We chose this hotel for its convenience and international reputation. We were arriving from Europe and were planning a few days of visits with relatives before a trip to Vancouver Island. We arrived in the evening after an extremely long day including a 10-hour flight. The hotel is very accessible from the airport via subway. But we were a bit underwhelmed right from the start with the very limited staffing and support the hotel had on offer. We had to phone down to reception, for example, to get instructions on how to turn the lamps on (keep turning, even if you are worried about breaking the knob). Now about 8pm, we knew we wanted something light to eat, and there is nothing close by in the neighbourhood, so we really had no choice but the hotel's Coal Harbour Bar, which, the receptionist explained, also served light meals. The bar was very understaffed. Although there were many free tables, it was clear that the waiters were working too hard and were under a great deal of stress serving guests. One waiter kept telling us to “wait! we are very busy!”, and fair enough we could see he was very busy. But from our perspective, 8pm Vancouver time was 5am for us, and we very tired. When we asked if we could just sit at the bar while waiting, we were pointed told, “no! there is no service at the bar!” (when all we wanted to do was sit down). It was an unfortunate experience. Due to public health restrictions, there is no maid service when we visited in October 2021. This means wet towels do not get changed, beds are not made, and items like note pads have been taken out of the room. One feedback to the management would be to develop a system where guests could check off the items they needed each morning – a new shampoo, two dry towels, a bar of soap etc. It is true that the hotel will promptly send up anything you need on request, but you need to figure out how to call down, and then wait while it is delivered in order to get served in this way. I would have hoped that a premium hotel like this one would have worked out a system more proactively to work-around the public health limitations caused by COVID. We were appreciative of the flexibility we received on check-out. When we asked for an extension to noon, they said "take you time, just let us know when you leave the room" and this was very helpful. We also received good advice from the concierge about where to purchase a particular item we were searching for in a nearby neighbourhood that had many Chinese apothecaries. However, they might have cautioned us about the situation along East Hastings Street along the route we walked. A heads up might have prepared us better, or we could have picked a different route. The social situation in that part of Vancouver is desperate. We did not feel personally insecure and we were not threatened in any way, but we did pass someone being attended to by the Vancouver Police who had possibly died, and many others who were openly using drugs.
We spent one night at the Pan Pacific courtesy of the Rocky Mountaineer scenic railroad, which booked our end-of-tour stay there. The room was comfortable and well appointed, and the amenities such as towels and toiletries were top notch. Best of all is the hotel's location atop Canada Place, located waterside in the Port of Vancouver. It is close to a wide selection of restaurants, attractions, and the wonderful port walking path. We would stay here again.
My husband and I loved our stay on the harbour. Slept great and the beds were very comfortable! The spa is amazing! Fabulous view of the harbour. Friendly staff at reception and dining area. Thank you very much!
