Disappointing return 2.5 years later
In June 2017 I rated this property a "4" and was broadly positive about the experience, which is what prompted a return. This time, it was a miss and a bit embarrassing having brought along some travel buddies. The location of the Delta is good and will meet all downtown needs. Check in was very friendly. The disappointment started once we got to the room, a one bedroom suite. Our issues were... 1. The room was large, very large, and the bathroom was tiny, for no reason other than terrible design. It did not provide room for two people to get ready at once. To access the sink, you needed to stand on the toilet, because the basin was installed on the wrong side. And the bathroom door and shower door could not be open at the same time. 2. The shower leaked to the floor. Turning on the shower wasn't possible without getting sprayed with cold water. 3. The towels were thinner and less welcoming than my old school gym towels 4. The toilet paper was thinner and less welcoming than the towels 5. All of the pillows were very high/thick... though when we called down, a better quality one was brought quickly and made a world of difference 6. There is no ceiling lighting. Getting the room light was an arduous process of finding multiple lamps and turning them on one by one. 7. The fridge was empty 8. We woke to construction noise from the adjacent development With that out of the way, the things to like are that it is clean, well located and friendly. So pick your poison: this is a cookie-cutter hotel that will make many people happy, but the shape of the cookie wasn't right for us this time. We relocated to the Douglas for our final night, at a comparative rate.
One notch above
Stayed at this property for one night while attending a conference in Vancouver. It is located two blocks from the main transportation hub in downtown which makes it easier to come and go. Also, you can walk almost anywhere in downtown in a few minutes. The property looks different from the outside than it is on the inside. Very unassuming (and I would say non appealing) exterior but as soon as you walk into the lobby, it is modern, fresh and clearly meant for demanding travelers. Rooms are suite type with two and even three separate spaces. All of them very comfortable. The bed and pillows are excellent. Wifi is very reliable and there are outlets everywhere! The only thing I didn’t feel was right was the bathroom in my suite. Quite small for a property of this level. But, this is not enough to take away all other positives. 5 stars and one notch above other properties in downtown Vancouver.
Central location downtown waterfront
Two blocks from the water and a block from the train station downtown. Limited amenities in the hotel - one restaurant - but lots of options locally of course. Rooms were spacious and clean. I was upgraded to a large suite. Service is friendly and the property is reasonably priced for downtown.
Disposable plastic containers for room service?
My stay was good. The hotel is nice. The room was clean. The staff provided great service. The reason for my 3 star review is: I was very surprised and disturbed that room service was served in disposable black plastic containers with black plastic disposable cutlery (which was wrapped in plastic!) rather than real plates and cutlery, which can be washed and re-used. This is not the level of service I expect from a hotel of this caliber. Frankly I’ve never had room service in any hotel that was served on disposables. If I wanted “take out” I would not have ordered room service. Furthermore, I am seriously disturbed by the amount of waste this hotel must generate using disposable containers for room service and giving out so much bottled water. Black plastic is not recyclable so it all goes into the landfill. When I checked in I was asked if I wanted to participate in the hotel’s “green program” and decline housekeeping. Given your hotel’s decision to use so many disposables, it seems that this “green program” is more about saving money on paying your housekeepers rather than your commitment to reducing your environmental impact. Rather hypocritical and does not reflect well on your brand. Please stop serving room service on disposables and distributing so much bottled water! This is an obvious way to reduce your impact. The world is dying. Please let’s stop contributing to it wherever we can reduce our environmental impact.
