Superior in all Aspects Save the Air conditioning!?!
A first time stay at the Wickaninnish Inn certainly did not disappoint with superior, conscientious and exceptional staffing and related servicing despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The staff were always one step ahead of the guests, anticipating their every need well in advance of a request.... The rooms were spacious and well appointed as expected at a rate approaching one thousand dollars per night, but in some ways in desperate need of certain upgrades. Firstly, the rooms as pre-advised are not air conditioned, but given the hot days and nights of our stay, our room was unbearably hot making it almost impossible to sleep. A heavy duty fan is supplied eliciting so much noise and wind that it was almost better to endure the heat with it left off. Of additional note, we are uncertain as to when the mattress in our room was last changed, but both of us were subjected to the unpleasantness of having to attempt to sleep in severe "ravines" on what was decidedly a mattress that has seen far better days. In this reviewers eyes, this is utterly unacceptable from a hotel of this supposed caliber. In summation, the issues related to sleep quality were highly objectionable and sub-standard and in most cases would yield a review bridging on three stars despite other mitigating aspects, but all other contributing factors of our stay were on the extraordinary side of the equation. The outlook and appointments from the suites combined with outstanding and remarkable service from all levels of the establishment inclusive of dining are what obviously create the desirability of the institution. With that said, I could not see us returning without the addition of in-room air conditioning even with the promise of new mattresses. It is a shame, as the Wickaninnish Inn has all of the makings of one of the great hotels of the world commencing with their superior room design aspects inclusive of balconies with incomparable outlooks and concluding with servicing beyond compare.
Time for a getaway and recharge!
Came for our third visit over the years to “The Wick” and brought another couple along who hadn’t been to Tofino before. Even during these “interesting” COVID-19 days, the staff at The Wick delivered!
You can't always get what you want
The Wickaninnish Inn has an international staff. In these troubled times as a recent in-house guest, I accepted that they could not meet my requests for my preferred dining times. The bar has few seats and we were pleased to take the last seats before we dined. The experience was outstanding.
We tried to visit the On the Rocks Bar on a Sunday evening but after checking our Id’s and asking our last name (which is ethnic sounding) we were told by the staff at the gate that we could not enter as there was no space at the bar. I had called earlier in the day to enquire about reservations for the bar but was told we could not make reservations. We were advised to just come and they would seat us. It was obvious that after the last name was radioed to the bar they decided we could not be seated. Should have tried a different last name.
A piece of Heaven
This place is magical. It was a fantastic resort. Our room looked right over the water and we could hear the ocean. They think of everything. The concierge was super helpful. Such a memorable trip. Worth every cent.
