Sensibly renovation, good stay
The hotel has been refurbished. Everything is in really good nick. The outer façade appears to be some sort of rich looking wood (not sure if its cedar or something else). Looks really good. Fits in beautifully with the surroundings. Internal finishes have been very well done. The name and inner set up appears to have some alignment with First Nations. The room is spacious and well done. I can't speak to the other side but I had a east facing room so I got the sunrise. The view overlooks buildings but there are lots of coniferous trees this side and the mountain range. So good view. I would happily stay here again. The town / shops are just a walk away. There is a bar (bar food) and a separate restaurant. Good food either place. One quirk - the elevator is in the middle of the whole shebang. Need to go through fire doors and the like to get to it. Good enough parking. Easy to find.
Great stay in Port Hardy
Stayed here overnight before our BC Ferries trip up the Inside Passage. Nicely refurbished hotel. Nice rooms and washrooms. Dinner in the restaurant was great. Would definitely stay here again if I was ever in Port Hardy. Highly recommend.
Recently stayed here for 2 nights, and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were comfortable, and the service was excellent. Easy access to everywhere. The bathroom doesn't have much counter space, so a bit of a balancing act. For one or 2 nights no a big deal. Beds are comfy, rooms are nicely decorated. The restaurant and put are good, a little pricey but typical of hotel food.
A lot of promise, but not there yet
The hotel itself is an older hotel, though it has been beautifully refurbished and decorated with wonderful art by local artists. Much of the hotel looks new, except for the cavernous dining room, which cannot escape its mundane heritage in spite of the great art, and the elevators, which still bear the faintest whiffs of cigarette smoke from bygone years and which lumber up and down like the old elevators they really are. The hotel is situated just off the highway and has no views. The rooms are fantastic, comfortable, very clean, and attractive. The bathrooms are outright beautiful, though small. The individual heater in the room, however, was far too loud to leave on at night, which meant the room became awfully cold. The food, which has garnered some raves here on this site, wasn't really very good at all, at least not during our stay. If this were a stand-alone restaurant I would give it a merely poor to average rating for the food. Quite frankly the halibut special wasn't what I would call fresh, plus it was overcooked. It was inexplicably served with a stodgy, starchy side dish and virtually no vegetables. I noticed it was also served as the special on the next night, which led us to try the pub but unfortunately the food in the pub was no better. As for the service, it seems as though the hotel is traning local young people, and although the staff are friendly and enthusiastic, their relative lack of experience shows. I wouldn't have minded this is the food had been better, but as it stands, the overall experience was only average.
Here for a hockey tourney
Hotel is very clean and easily accessible from the main drive into town. Staff is very friendly and rooms are super clean. Pub has really good food. Had to sign a waiver due to the nature of us being a hockey team and some understandable rules but nothing out of left field. All in all a great hotel and super comfy beds.
