Great rate, harbour view and recordable TV system!
We stayed at the Inn at Laurel Point for two nights so I could attend business meetings in the hotel’s conference facilities. I booked directly with the hotel three weeks in advance, securing the government rate for a standard king room in the Laurel wing. While the rate quoted in the hotel’s emailed booking confirmation was $159/nt, the actual rate charged was $119 plus 17% for the four different taxes. I also thought I had been upgraded to a harbour view on check-in, but the confirmation indicates the room I booked was a harbour view. I thought I had picked the cheapest room available, so maybe they upgraded me on reservation. As the property isn’t in the inner harbour core, the parking cost seemed a bit high at $17 (plus 5% tax). Parking in the area didn’t seem to be at a premium, but perhaps there were street parking restrictions that I didn’t notice. Given the great room rate, I wasn’t complaining about the parking cost. The room was a bit larger than average and was quite comfortable. The curtains closed well enough to keep the room dark in the morning. There was a small balcony and a desk that was functional for work purposes. The included wi-fi was okay, although we did have some minor issues with it. One big bonus was the recordable TV system. I think they were on Telus Optik which provided the ability to record shows and even pause live TV (which we did one night to go out and bring back some dinner). This is the one home amenity that I really miss when travelling and have never come across it before. All staff were very friendly and there was always someone in the lobby to open the main door for us, although it sometimes seemed a bit weird. Either there was someone standing around a very quiet lobby whose job it was to wait for someone to open the door for, or someone would see us coming and scurry out from behind the front desk to open the door. While I appreciate the effort, unless I’m weighed down by bags on both arms and both shoulders, I can probably get the door myself. The oddest thing came at lunch time on day one when I discovered that they did not offer room service during the day. Lunch was not provided at my meeting but I had some work I had to do during the noon break. I had hoped to simply order room service and work in my room, but discovered that there was no room service. The hotel is a healthy walk from the inner harbour core with no fast food nearby. I managed to find a solution that didn’t involve going hungry, but it was much less than ideal. I have never stayed in a full-service hotel (with restaurants and banquet facilities) that did not offer daytime room service. The other minor issue was that I wasn’t able to secure a late check-out on my last day. Other than our meeting, the hotel seemed very quiet. I appreciate they need to service all the rooms and they indicated they were full the next day. It just would have been nice if they could have arranged their housekeeping schedule to do our room later rather than first in the rotation. I would definitely stay at the Laurel Point again. The Optic TV almost brought it up to a perfect score.
very helpful while booking the room and good service while there.
We went and stayed for my Husbands birthday and the room was very nice with a view of the inner harbour . The hotel was very clean and close to all amenities. We were able to walk for the most part. Down town Victoria is very close, Bateman Museum , Provincial Museum , Empress and the Keg right within walking distance. We had a great meal at the Steam ship restaurant and the Keg another night. Walked to Dallas rd and walked the break water and went for lunch at the Break water bistro and the food and staff were amazing. There were king tides and huge waves crashing all around us . Was very exhilarating.Lots to see and do in Victoria and the Laurel Pointe in a great spot.
The hotel is in a great location on the harbor. Easy walk to shops/restaurants. I’d recommend upgrading and staying in the Erickson wing.. our room in the original area was comfortable but quite dated. I think we may have been placed in a wheelchair accessible room as everything felt very low to the ground. I booked the room as part of a package with ferry transport from Vancouver, I should have paid more attention to room type/location within hotel at time of booking. We chose a harbor view room, although it was more of a partial view to the side it was nice. Location to board the Victoria Clipper to Seattle is just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Must Stay Hotel
This hotel was great before we even arrived!!! They were easy to book and very responsive to requests - an hour early check in and ensuring we had everything for our little one. Then when we arrived greeted us before we were in the lobby and had notes to ensure stream lined communication. The staff were exceptional, the room was immaculate, and ambience of the hotel warm and inviting. I will always pay more for great customer service and this hotel is a star above that even. Stay here and look not further.
An all-time favorite hotel
My wife and I have been staying at the Laurel Point Inn for many years, now. To say the least - it never disappoints, and is only getting better. We were fortunate to check-in just the day after the lobby renovations were completed. Spectacular to say the least. Our room was on an upper floor of the Erickson Wing. Have to say - this is by far our best room at the LP yet. Lovely view of the Inner Harbour. The room was very spacious and comfortable and the large bathroom superb. The hotel's location is within walking distance of all of downtown Victoria, and the scenic view walkway along Juan De Fuca Strait. Plenty of restaurants and attractions near-by. Had breakfast one morning at Aura restaurant - excellent. On the suggestion front: more electrical outlets/plug-ins would definitely be appreciated. Looking forward to our next visit.
