My husband and I stayed in the main lodge for a 2 night stay. This is our third time staying there. The view from our room was spectacular!! The rooms were VERY clean. They did an awesome job making our stay very welcoming during these unforeseen times due to Covid. I want to give a shout out to the front desk staff and cleaning staff. You ROCK!! The Purple Thistle restaurant in the main lodge was superb!! We ate there for breakfast and suppers. I would recommend the steak sandwich or the tenderloin!! The staff in the restaurant was excellent!! Thank you Keltic Lodge once again for making our stay one to remember!!!
Beautiful property but......
Stayed at this property for two nights. What they had for food in the only open restaurant was good, but choice was very limited. For the two nights we were there, the crab cake and lobster bisque were unavailable. We were told they were unable to source those items. Which is interesting because the restaurant about two minutes up the road had no problem sourcing crab or lobster....hmmmmmm...... Now to our room.....we were told that due to enhanced Covid cleaning practices, we would not have our room services, but if we needed anything, to just call. We asked twice for extra towels that never arrived. I ended up asking housekeeping when I found someone on our floor....she gave me the extra towels we required. There were at least 20 dead flies in our bathroom light fixture and there had to be about 15 years of dust in the radiators.....enhanced cleaning? How about just basic???? Overall, we found the property to be mediocre at best and while we loved the outdoor property, including the amazing Middle Head Trail, we won't stay there again.
Our stay at the lodge was amazing!!! Our room at the main lodge was spacious, clean with a comfortable bed, and I cannot forget the spectacular views from our room. The property at the lodged is beautiful, I do recommend taking the time to walk the Middle Head Trail . We dined at “The Purple Thistle “the staff were all very friendly, hats off to the chiefs the food was delicious. Thank you to all staff at the Keltic Lodge our stay was what we needed and we are looking for staying there again next year
All Hype - Mediocre Hotel
Booked it for a relaxing weekend getaway. Struggles began long before the trip. Reception rarely answered the phone to discuss the reservations and modifications. After 6 calls we finally made dinner reservations for our two nights - which when we stepped up to the only open restaurant - ( the other closed early for the season) they had lost our second booking and we had to kill an hour and a half for the next open spot. The room was an average room for a first class price. The view was beautiful - granted, but the walls were paper thin, the carpets were 70s era sketchy, beds uncomfortable. With pandemic rules housekeeping were not cleaning/replenishing rooms but reception never answered the phone fOr requests for coffee/towels etc. The food and service were good - the wait staff did their best but were woefully understaffed. The Spa was average. Covid rules closed the gym which was not apparent when booking or on their website. Golf was fun - despite the rain, the course was beautiful, and staff friendly. The nearby Middle Head hiking trail was a relatively easy trek with tricky footing at times, gorgeous views. Wifi was free and good coverage. All in all, it was an average hotel that was grossly overpriced for what it delivered.
Based on the advertising and price associated with the property, we were expecting a 5 star experience. Including luxurious rooms and outstanding customer service. We had NEITHER. It all started with a 40 minute wait to check into our room. We arrived in the lobby at 3pm (check-in time) and were 4th in line. There was only one person checking people in and it was taking a long time per check-in. Next, we went to our room only to find out it was a little above a 'Holiday Inn' room. To spend over $400/night, it was a huge disappointment all around. We were disappointed to find that the room only had a queen when we had confirmed that we were getting a room with a king bed when we booked the room with the hotel. Also, it was a loft room which I do not recommend. They faced the water (which was awesome); however there was a common area between you and the water. Kids were running out right in front of your view. Not romantic at all. This was NOT explained anywhere on the website. We tried calling the front desk AND the manager, but were never able to get a live person (only voice mails). We also sent an email to the manager and reservation email, but NEVER received a reply or a phone call - very disappointing and poor customer service. We ended up waiting until our dinner time to go back to the front desk given the long line that had formed and we didn't want to spend another hour waiting in line. When we did go back, they did give us a much nicer room; but we had to move all of our stuff after dinner (again, would have expected them to move it for us). Anyway, dinner was nothing special. We had a reservation. When we checked in, they asked us to wait in the lobby area. Ten minutes went by and we went back and the same person told us that we had not checked in. Unbelievable. Once seated, we had to wait to even get water. When we ordered drinks, they were out of our first three choices. So we just ordered entrees. Overall waitress wasn't very friendly or attentive. She said that she would bring a pitcher of water, but it never showed up. Also, had to wait an excessive amount of time after we ate because she was chatting it up with another table for a long time. We ended up telling another waitress that we were ready for our check; when our waitress was alerted, she had to come to our table to see if we wanted dessert first. Wow. Breakfast was nothing special as well.... typical pancakes, omelets, etc. Bottom line, there was nothing special about this place. Which is very disappointing given the potential that exists. This place needs renovations to the rooms and even more improvements to their customer service. We do not plan to return.
