We had such a great weekend, so much many activities to do. The rooms were great, the food was so good. The staff were fantastic, always there to look after us. Ladies weekend was a huge success. Can’t wait to do it again.
Upon arrival we were told that our room was not ready , mind you it was 4:15 and check in is 3:00 . Finally got in the room only to find hair all over bed , carpets were filthy and the shower looked like it wasn’t cleaned in god knows how long . Decided we would go to the purple thistle for supper only to be told we had to make a reservation an the earliest one available was 8;30 so we headed back to our room until then . Finally get in for something to eat and i overheard a server talking about how she hasn’t got her first dose of the vaccine yet . But we are required to show proof of double vaccine to stay here , pretty unprofessional to say the least . We ended up going to the HSR for live music and it was alright besides the fact I seen one of the servers with long brown curly hair doing shots behind the bar . How is this place still open , this place has gone down hill since my visit before golf north took over . Will never ever return and will be sharing my experience with everyone .
What can I say that others before have not? When we arrived we had to stand in a long line to check in. When we got to the desk the attendant did not have the experience to process our reservation and had to call for assistance. There was no bellman to assist with our bags as our rooms were on the second floor and there was no elevator. We were fortunate in that we had a good room; our traveling companions did not and had to change rooms. We could not get a dinner reservation before 8:30pm in the main restaurant and not before 7:30pm in the Highland Sitting room due to a private party taking place. We decided to wait outside the HSL until the private party left. They finally departed a little after 7:30 and then the large group waiting to get in had to wait another 15 minutes until the room was cleaned. Thank goodness Jason, the entertainment in the HSL, was so entertaining. The second night we ate in the main dining room and the food was terrible. One of our party ordered the boiled lobster and when it came it had obviously been reheated in an oven and the shell of the lobster was actually burnt. Another member of the party ordered the shrimp and scallops, which was so overdone it was dry and rubbery. A third person had the Pescatore which tasted like the sauce had come from a bottle. The next morning, the breakfast was a BUFFET. Really? In the time of COVID, you serve a buffet where everyone is touching the food and the utensils? When we checked out, there was a $250+ mistake on our final bill, which I had to point out to the desk. It is a shame that such a beautiful hotel has come down to this. We would not stay here again due to the condition of the hotel and the service that we received.
A group of 5 couples stayed at the Lodge, rooms were almost $400 a night after tax. We’ve stayed at the lodge before in different buildings which were much nicer and worthy of the rate, the ones in the main building are not. The group went to the restaurant for supper and after an hour and half, 3 people did not receive their drinks and some of the meals never arrived. When left that room to go next door to the pub we were told we were cut off, no discussion, no reason, zero communication. The staff at the pub were uncomfortable and bewildered by the situation. I can only assume our reasonable complaints due to poor service were not well received. We were not rowdy teenagers, these are couples who are professionals and business owners in their 40-50s. To be treated in such a manner for absolutely no reason was unbelievable. We will definitely not be going to the Keltic again. Shame because it’s a beautiful location.
Nice Old Inn But Overpriced
This is an old inn that must have been quite grand in its heyday but is starting to show its age, especially the lobby, restaurants and exterior. This left us feeling that we overpaid for what we got (hence the 3 star rating - if the rate was lower we would give it 4 stars). Our room, was quite nice, very clean and comfortable. We were there on a miserable day and were able to book a private half hour (due to COVID) in the hot tub located in the spa which was quite a treat. We dined in the pub the food was average but the live music was good. Buffet breakfast was included - also average. We enjoyed a nice easy hike in the morning on the property.
